How many of you live in a place you still find it safe to leave your house unlocked and keys in the car????
-
some times house unlocked when I go to bed house unlocked if they want to get in they well get in.
-
Although my neighborhood is quiet I still lock my doors. There has been a few occasions where we will lock the door and when we get up the door if open or we have left the keys in the door all night by accident. Nothing happened but we still lock the doors.
-
I live in Southern California and I would never leave my keys in the car or the front door unlocked as in this day and age it is just not worth taking that chance. Times have changed. :'(
-
I lock my doors, but if someone wants to get in they will. Trust in the Lord to protect you an dkeep you safe.
-
I just do not think it is a good idea to do this at all anyway nowadays useless you have a really crappy looking car.
-
Not me.I lock my doors in the daytime.Car and home.At home there are more locks on at night.
-
I live in Chicago and NEVER feel safe to leave my keys in the car or doors open. Once, my family's bikes were stolen and another time our snowblower was stolen. We keep out iron gate locked and our garage doors locked and car doors locked and rarely leave our ADT security alarm off. We have security lights also.
My family doesn't take chances when it comes to security. ::)
-
I think our area is safe enough to leave things unlocked, but I don't think it is wise to do so.
-
I keep things locked in general. There's been plenty of times that I've forgotten or fell asleep with the door open. Nothing ever happens and I doubt it ever will.
-
I never leave my doors unlocked. That is really stupid. If a criminal is going to break in, I am not going to make it easy for them.
-
I live in a rural area with a very long driveway and quite a few dogs inside and outside so I only lock my front door at night, leave the back door unlocked as my backyard is fenced and the dogs have a doggie door and leave the keys in my car. I am much more concerned about coyotes getting my dogs (even though they are fenced in or kenneled - coyotes jump fences) than I am about someone stealing my very old car.
-
I never leave my doors unlocked. That is really stupid. If a criminal is going to break in, I am not going to make it easy for them.
Exactly. If a robber really wants to get in your home, they will find a way anyway. But, why make it easy for them by just leaving the door unlocked to walk right in?
Not to mention, if you have theft coverage on your homeowner's insurance, try explaining to the company that you left your doors unlocked and that's how they got in. You're probably going to have a much harder time getting the claim through than you would with proof of a busted in door, smashed window, etc.

I think our area is safe enough to leave things unlocked, but I don't think it is wise to do so. We lock our doors and car every day, but lately my oldest daughter has come home late and forgets to lock the front door, it is a constant fight with her. so far nothing has happened, we have left the bikes and packages outside overnight and everything has been fine. But I think it is stupid to leave the doors open, if a thief wants to get in I will not make easier for them. The lock doors plus the alarm should make it more difficult for whoever wants to break in.
-
I live in a rural area and rarely lock my doors. If I am going to be gone for longer than a day I will lock them or if I notice someone in the area I am not familiar with I will lock them when I leave for anywhere. I don't lock them at night though, and never when I am there.
-
My front door and deck doors are always locked. The door to my garage is locked if I am in the house. If I run an errand or are gone for only a few hours, that door is not locked, but I have a garage door opener so it is pretty much locked. If I am on vacation, that inside door is also locked. My car has automatic locks when I start to drive. If I leave my car parked somewhere, it is always locked. I have not heard of any incidents in my neighborhood, but I don't like taking chances.
It would be nice to leave the glass door on my deck open in the summer, at night, with the screen intact. The glass door opens into the house, and the deck is on the side of the house, so someone would have to almost climb the deck to see that it was open, but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing it was open.
-
no way!!!! i would never leave my house unlocked or leave my keys in the car. So not worth it
-
We lock the door and never leave the keys in the car. We used to live in a more rural area and left the keys in the car most of the time and the door unlocked. Not at this house tho.
-
I lock all doors, even with the fenced in backyard with a pig and dog I say lock that door!!!
Oh yeah, I know you can teach an old dog new tricks, how about a pig?
-
I always lock all of my doors even if it is the middle of the day and I am home. You just can not trust people any more. I think you should just get you a really big ferocious looking guard dog to keep inside your home at night. I saw something on tv the other day where this older white guy broke into this black guys house in the middle of the day with him pressure washing the outside of his house. The home owner caught him, beat the mess out of him while his wife video taped it, and then they held him there until the police arrived. It serves that guy right for being a criminal and a dumb one at that!!lol. :peace:
-
We lock our car and humble abode doors just incase 8) Could be saving ourselves and others some mysterious troubles  :peace:.
-
I almost never lock my doors. If someone wants to get in they will. My husband, on the other hand, drives me crazy with the door locking. He always locks the doors, day or night it doesnt matter.
-
I ALWAYS LOCK MY DOORS ITS A HABIT.
-
I always lock the doors. If you don't, it makes it a lot easier for criminals to get in.
-
Well I pretty much live in Mayberry. No one here locks there doors, and just about every car has a set of keys in it. Yes every once in a great while a house may get broken into or a car, but not enough for anyone here to care. I love living in place where you know everyone. I have no desire to live anywhere you have to triple chain the door to feel safe. That's for the birds.
-
Everything stays secure and alarmed!

How many of you live in a place you still find it safe to leave your house unlocked and keys in the car????
I do now lock my home door even if I'm at home. To much is happening now. We need to do these thing. Why would we give someone the option to just walk in. reather it's your car or home. Where I live it's not safe now.
-
Not me, times have changed. I don't think people that live in the south or small towns can do that anymore (I could be wrong).
-
pahaha.. i live in los angeles in an apt of more then 40 apartments. a lot of people who can't be trusted. so locking the door is a must. the only time i don't lock the door is when i step outside for a minute or so.
-
Yes there are places you can leave them unlocked. No one I even know locks there doors, we just walk right into peoples houses that we know. It's just like that where I am from. Small Small town.
-
In my town there is no real need to lock your doors, but I started doing it anyway about a year ago. It's better to be safe than sorry.
-
Every time I turn around my dad has the door locked. It could be broad daylight out and he will be sitting on the couch near the door and he will still lock it. We don't live next to horrible neighbors or anything. In fact, we live in a nice neighborhood. I honestly think my dad has been watching too many tv shows where people break into houses. I honestly don't keep the door locked it its me. Like others have said, if someone wants to get in they will get in by any means necessary.
-
some times house unlocked when I go to bed house unlocked if they want to get in they well get in.
I agree with you but why make it so easy? at least with the door locked you will be able to hear the noise of them breaking a window or something then you can take action or call 911...just my thoughts!!
-
ill keep the house doors unlocked when I"m home, though I lock everything at all other times....the other day though I accidentally locked myself out of the house which was not good.
-
I feel very safe in our neighborhood but we try to remember to lock the doors when we leave or go to bed. We have forgotten to put the garage door down without any problems but it's not something we usually do because we are in an urban area and you never know who might drive through.
-
I lock up when I leave or take a shower, but I don't really worry when I am at home.Sometimes I leave a door open when I walk the dog ,probably not safe but old habits die hard.
-
I just have to always lock all the doors. Weird things happen in the safest places.
-
My house was broken into when the doors were locked, I have never had anyone steel anything when my doors were unlocked. I do own a gun, and if I was home would blow a hole in someone if they every stepped foot in my own without authorization. But like I said, things like that just don't happen down here. When people's houses are broken into down here it's from an outsider or someone that was passing threw. And it does happen, but it's gonna happen weither your doors were locked or not.
-
It’s common sense to lock doors to both the house and the car even to briefly run a quick errand than to feel sorry later on. Unlock doors can invite unwanted criminal activity at any time when one least expect it.
-
Just is the last 3 years have ai started locking the house and the car door, We had a 300 home neuighbor hood built. Use too if you heard seirns you new what of the neighbo was in trouble, know it is the police going to the new neighbor hood . I even pull the truck in were I can see thegas cap at night.
-
[/shadow] :icon_rr:Coming from the big city I definitly lock my doors....but then in a small town you would be supprised how much bad goes on....I had a friend one open her door and a young boy she nor her family knew...sitting in her front room watching tv...acting like he lived there....I know that's not so bad but thank God it wasn't somebody dangerous sitting there..
-
We lock our doors all the time. I trust God FOR HIS PROTECTION but i do know that he want us to wise as well.
-
I always lock my doors... cars/homes/etc... even if it is just to run into the house because i forgot something. even when i lived in a rural area in Alaska I did.
-
Where I live you might be able to get away with it. When I was little ( I still live in the same home ) someone did walk into our home and steal around 50.00 while we where sleeping. We always keep our doors locked now. I think it is best to keep your doors locked just in case. I think alarm systems and all this other precaution technology is taking things to extremes though. :dontknow:
-
I still live in the same town that I had been in since I had been five years old. Growing up we never used to lock the doors. Even now I live in a different house it would still probably be fine not to lock the doors however I would not feel safe.
I think it's a shame that we even have to lock the doors. :peace:
-
I certainly do feel it all depends on where you live. Some areas ARE safer than others!!!
-
I grew up with a paranoid mom ... LOL
I always lock my doors and my car
-
I used to not worry too much about locking my car doors, but lately a neighbor has told me about some house break-ins in our area. Now I lock my cars as soon as I get out so I don't forget. The house is usually always locked, I don't feel safe otherwise.
-
I lock my doors. I usually wind up double and triple checking the locks. After some one tried to break into a home i was living in about 10 years ago I do not feel safe.
-
I have always lived in the city, but even if I lived in a nice quiet rural area I still wouldn't leave my doors or car unlocked. You never know what can happen plus I watch too many thiller type movies to be naive.
-
>:( I used to have my doors unlock so my grandkids and just come in but since last week some teenager keeps walking in like he lives there. He sees some one all he says is wrong door and walks back out. I complain but my landlord said not my problem. how's tat?
-
I lock at night for my own peace of mind. Crime is more rampant in the bigger cities and the percentage of being robbed is higher. However, stuff happens in the country too. If someone wants in my house, I at least want time for the dog and I to hear them before they are in the house. That way I can set up an alert and keep myself safer. I certainly sleep better. :)
-
I would never leave my doors unlocked. I live in public housing. I know how some of the neighbours are.
-
I live in the country and I alway lock all the doors. It seems there are lots robberys around my area.
-
I live in a fairly safe place, but I feel it is very wise to lock doors on the house and take the keys out of the car. Why leave temptation so handy?
-
I never lived in a time or place where I would ever leave my door unlocked, especially for a very extended period of time. This is of course excluding parties when people are constantly going in or out.
-
I am not naive. I know anything can happen anywhere. But 9 times out of ten it isn't going to happen here. I do own a gun for safety percautions and if I ever felt unsafe I would start locking my doors. But until then I feel just fine.
-
I live in So California and I always lock up. It still isn't enough. I've had a car stolen and my home broken into.
-
I certainly do feel it all depends on where you live. Some areas ARE safer than others!!!
I don't care how "safe" an area is, there are still crazy creeps lurking around you NEVER KNOW.
-
If your lucky enough to live were you can thats a blessing. Even though we live in a pretty safe and quite neighborhood we lock our doors. We have had a rash of home invasions of people using military tacts and targeting people they thought were bad or evil. They knock on door then if no one answers they kick in door. Try it at my sisters house and my nephew kicked the door back on them getting one of there hand in it. He heard noise went to see if cat was getting in christmas tree again and found front door adjar and then saw a hand coming inside to hold door open little more quitely he guessed. He was able to hold door shut on the hand for about a minute before they pulled it lose. He was able to lock door and put chair underneith doorhandle to make it hold til he got gun. Called police they were caught 2 days later from a breakin down the road. Now to this day total of 4 were caught but they said at least 6 more still out there. They caught the ringleader he had a manual that was very wicket. Taught tacktical assalt, and bunches of other things. The group was targeting recuits from ages of 16 and up. Things just are like they use to be. Stay safe out there.
-
Not me, always lock the doors, just to be careful.
-
Even if you lock your doors, If someone wants in bad enough they will get in. To be on the safe side, lock your doors.
-
I locked my doors all the times. Still I am afraid of break ins. Someone busted my glass window on the driver side in my car. There are a lot of crazy people out there.
-
I think it's possible that if you leave your keys in your car and some kid takes it joy riding you could be liable for neglect. Maybe it just depends on where you live though.
-
Y'all listen to me, GET A SCREEN DOOR A BURGLAR SCREEN DOOR AT THAT AND GET A CAR JACK AND CAR COVER. WE GOTTA KEEP IT PIMPIN. :icon_rr:
