Do you love the creamy smooth thickness of Greek Style Yogurt?? BUT WAY TOO Expensive?? I read this tip and tried it and it DOES work!!!
Take regular yogurt ( I but the biggest container of vanilla) and put it in a strainer over a Large bowl and cover with plastic wrap over night. All of the excess liquid and it is A LOT, drains into the bowl. Just put your yogurt back in the container and you have greek style yogurt!!! It looks like only half the amount so maybe that is why they charge twice as much ;D

But what about the protein content, the texture may be the same, but what about the nutritional content??
I really like the greek yogurt with granola mixed in!

I love Greek yogurt. It is very expensive, but I try to stock up when it is on sale and I have coupons for it. Sometimes if you contact the company they will be willing to send coupons to you in the mail. I love how thick and creamy it is. When I get regular yogurt now I find it very watery...yuck

I love the Greek Yogurt!

I buy a greek yogurt now and then to use on a baked potato. I don't use it very often and if I buy a container of sour cream I have too much left over and it usually just goes to waste. The smaller size container is perfect for a couple of potatoes or whatever.

My children love the greek yogurt with fruit. They tell me it is like pudding. I think that is why they like it so much. I buy it when I have coupons or when on sale at the stores.

I love Greek yogurt too. I buy it at Trader Joes and it is a lot cheaper than all the other stores.

Greek yogurt is quite a bit better than the "regular" kind. It has significantly higher protein and generally less sugars and calories. I like to add fruit with the yogurt and make a smoothie. Makes for an excellent on the go snack.

I use it instead of sour cream!

Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. Greek yogurt and dried cherries with splenda (breakfast-yum)

I tried it, but to tangy for me....I prefer the yoplait creamy custard or dannon fruit on the bottom.

I like some of the flavors of Chobani yogurt, mostly the 2% ones. I only like the ones with fruit in them, because the other ones are too sour. I like the thick texture better than regular yogurt, but for taste, nothing can beat Stonyfield Farm flavored yogurts.

Your end product here is actually "yogurt cheese" (I'm a home cheesemaker and also make my own yogurt, sour cream, creme fraiche, etc.). But you are correct, what you end up with after straining is similar to Greek yogurt.
One tip: I'd suggest using a piece of cheesecloth in the strainer, unless your strainer has EXTREMELY fine mesh. Otherwise, you're wasting a lot of your yogurt. :)
Also, if you're interested in making your own yogurt at home (or any other dairy-related product like mozzarella cheese, ricotta, etc.), check out the New England Cheesemaking Supply Company. They have a website that has regular articles about making all sorts of wonderfully delicious cheeses etc., and making it yourself is not only fun but often far less expensive that what you can get in the store -- AND without the added hormones, preservatives, sweeteners, etc. They sell everything you need to get started, and not expensive. Just a little "food for thought!"
Enjoy that yummy food of the gods! :peace:

My baby boy loves greek yogurts, but I'm not a fan. Good thing it's not the only kind he will eat though, I don't have the money for that!

Thanks for the tips ... I actually do use a piece of cheesecloth in my strainer (i guess i forgot to mention that). The cheese making sounds very cool. I will look into that!!!
