IMO, I think this has just been a bad year for colds.  I'm not sure if the weather has something to do with it or not but I've never had a year where I have had to buy so much cold medicines/kleenex/cough drops to function.  I've averaged about three colds every two months since last October...and it's not just me but my co-workers, and aquaintances also.  All the hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial cleaning products, hand-washing, taking extra vitamins & vitamin C--- just doesn't seem to help anything...everyone is still sick all winter long.

Clean and sanitize your home thoroughly to keep colds away.  Don't forget to clean his/her toys.

I have had a cold since Christmas.  You might want to get a humidifier for her bedroom. My humidifier is so helpful.  Also be sure that she stays hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Chicken soup helps too.  I hope she gets better soon.

i use it as soon as i feel signs of a cold! i haven't had one in a
few years  :notworthy:

I disinfect surfaces frequently during cold season. Also washing hands and staying away from others that are sick help alot.

When they're that young, they're illness magnets I think.  Not really all that much you can do but try to instill good sanitary habits.

i dont know what the best way to get rid of a cold  is especially for someone young. Good luck just try and wash your hands as much as you can and limit contact with others.

I hear that this is just part of having kids.  Not to mention that there have been a lot of colds going around this year.  So I guess her imune system will be getting pretty strong before too long.

Everything that has been mentioned is really good. Our whole town seems to have been down with this crud from time to time. Just about the time hubby gets over one he gets another one. So far i have been lucky. Although i have come down with a severe sinues infection and am now on strong antibodies and antihistamine with codine so i can get some sleep. It is feeling better but ohla what a time. Our weather is so dry here and we just need some moisture to clear the air.

Actually even though it is considered "polite" covering your mouth is worse then not covering it in spreading germs. The germs dissipate pretty quickly in the air but can live on your hands and be transferred to surfaces and other people thus spreading faster.

Being that young, they need time to build their immune system so having them fight a cold is not necessarily a bad thing.  Granted, you don't want them to be constantly fighting as that will take a toll on their little bodies.

In addition to what others said about ensuring they get enough rest, fluids, washing - a couple more things I'd add are the following:

1.  If they are running a fever, do not give them something to stop it (at least not unless the fever gets really high, like 102-103).  Reason is the purpose of a fever is the body's mechanism for killing the bacteria/virus causing the cold.  If you stop the fever, you are stopping their body's natural way of fighting the cold.

2.  If they are not running a fever (and even if they are), try to make them as warm as possible.  Reason is heat kills bacteria/viruses.  If there is no fever or a low grade fever, elevating their body temperature externally will also help - basically creating a "fake" fever.  Increased body temperature should assist in killing the infection they are fighting.

3.  Double check to be sure what they are exhibiting is really a cold.  Often times they are allergies which can appear to be constant colds.  I've had that issue - where I think I'm coming down with a cold, but it turns out to be allergies.  After having lived for this for a while, I've learned to treat for allergies first, and if that doesn't work, then treat for a cold.  I rarely get sick myself, but I do suffer from allergies.  The suggestion of using a humidifier is a good one as in winter, if you are in a climate where you have a lot of heating from a furnace; if the humidity gets too low, that causes cold like/allergy like symptoms.  I encountered that too where I thought I had allergies, but turned out the air was simply too dry.  Once I got a humidifier going, my "allergies" disappeared.

Hope some of these suggestions help in combinations with the others.

have you considered that it may be allergies? It is possible it could be something in the house or even a foodthat they are given on a regular basis.
