Just wondering if you got a flu shot this season, and if so, do you think it has helped?
My whole family got the flu over winter break last year, so I swore we'd all get the shot this year. But we didn't, because I'm just not sure how I feel about it. None of us are high risk for complications of the flu.
My oldest daughter has had a fever/cough for 3 days now....miserable enough to keep her out of school, but not nearly as bad as last year. The rest of us seemed to have escaped it thus far.
So what's your opinion? Worth getting it or do you pass?
-
:bootyshake: Nope and don't intend so... I very rarely get sick
-
I got almost blackmailed into getting one. My boss had bonuses for all of us, but we had to give her a receipt that I'd gotten a flu shot before I could recieve the bonus.
I'd never had one before, and probably never will again unless its a similar situation. Can't recall every getting the "flu". And from what I've read the shot doesn't protect at all against the common cold which is mainly what people get.
-
I get one every year. I have asthma, and I've had the flu. Not a good combination. I hate shots, but having the flu would be a lot worse.
-
Nope. No flu shot for me. Children, elderly, sickly, and preggers should be the ones getting them. I remember when we had the shortage so I went without on that year. After that, I just stopped getting them in case of a shortage.
-
I got one, but only because I was at the doctor's office and they offered (aka pretty much told me to get) one. I hardly ever get sick though, so I can't say if it helps or not.
-
no, I forgot to go in to get one for free at the College Health Center in october. whoops.
-
I have never had a flu shot in my life. I have also never had the flu in my life. I don't think I will ever get one! I rarely get sick, anyway. Maybe if it was a definite prevention... I would feel differently. But knowing I could get this shot, AND it could make me sick, AND it wouldn't guarantee I'd never get the flu? No thanks!
-
I have never had a flu shot. My husband and my son both had a flu shot last year and they both ended up sick and I didn't, go figure. ???
-
Yes, when i was small.!
-
i didnt but I meant to. and as a result of not getting it I caught the flu :angry7:
-
Yes, I did get one. I haven't gotten the flu, but then I haven't really been around anyone who has had the flu either. I don't really know if it helped or not.
-
nope , our family already got sick, so i wish i would of now..
-
Yes, I had to when I was 7 months pg with my daughter
-
no, i've never had it. my doctor told me to get it when i was pregnant but never really went to get it. i was sick two times last year and it was bad, i had to take antibiotics and everything. i should have gotten it but too lazy. lol.
-
What you had was not the flu because antibiotics are never prescribed for viruses. Antibiotics are ineffective against the flu. Still, I hope you get the shot next year....flu is nastier than most infections and knocks you out of action for a much longer time.
-
maybe i'll get it even i dont go out...hehe. but it's true, better get it than be worser and paid more
-
nope i didnt get a flu shot but all my kids have asthma so they all got one.. they are doing good so far, but my niece and nephew everytime they get the flu shot they get so sick..
-
not yet, though i should cuz i haven't been sick this year yet :?
-
Nope, I never took any vaccination for the flu. When it is flu season I ensure I get alot of vitamin C and stock up on cold medicine in case I do get sick. So far, I don't get sick. I do however suffer from a slight sore throat annually.
-
most years I get a flu-shot, but i didn't this year
-
no but its only because i never find time too but oh well i'll live with sickness :angry7: lol
-
i've never gotten one. i probably won't unless it'll be required at my place of employment. (i'm in health care, and currently, it's not required, but that's subject to change)
-
no i dont want one lol :icon_rr:
-
Nope, I've never had a flu shot in my life. Never needed one, never will. I don't usually get sick anyway. :)
-
I think its not a bad idea getting one,I feel the effect of it. I got flu pretty ofter, and after I had flu shots (for nursing school) I didnt get flu as often. but I heard last years flu shots wasnt that useful, I forgot the reason what, has to do with they found out that theres new viruses around. hehe.
-
i hate needles!
-
Flu shot aways work for me...Anyways aways drink a lot of water. It helps keep your body in good health
-
There is defenitly not a shortage anymore.
I get mine every year. Never get anything more then a little cold, once or twice a year. :bunny:
-
i did not get one and the result....i got a flu for a the whole week :-[
-
Im not all about the whole shot ordeal.... but a few of my friends got it and it worked and then some of my other friends and their kids have still gotten sick... So I guess it just depends on your body.
-
I personally think flu shots are bad for you. First of all they are preserved with mercury, and studies are showing that mercury based shots/immunizations are causing horrible diseases and can severly comprimise your immune system.
Good rule of thumb make sure you wash your hands constantly through out the day, make sure you get adequate ammount of sleep, take lots of vitamin c or immune boosting vitamins, and make sure that you are eating a well balanced diet, reduce ammount of stress and finally dress approprieate for the wether conditions
-
yes i did and i still got sick. :-[
-
i am 43 yrs old, ive' never taken a flu shot. ive never been seriously sick with the flu (knock on wood). i am actually afraid to take the shot, for fear it will make me sick.
-
Yes I have had the flu shot for the past 20 years and I have never had the Flu
-
Never had a flu shot. Am 46 yrs. old. When I start to feel sickness coming on I reach for my herbs and take a bunch of immune system boosters. I take really good herbal/vitamin combo daily and am rarely sick. I've called off sick from work twice in 16 years.
-
I don't trust my immune system. I get that shot every year.
-
Every year. Same as the flu prevention shot. :D
-
last time i got a flu shot i got sick soooooo.......no
-
No but i wish i had I've had the flu for the last week :crybaby2:
-
No i dont ever get one and probably wont get any in the future. I do Vitamin C everyday to prevent getting sick.
-
I've never had the flu shot....I've also never had the flu...
-
Yes, and it will be the first and last one that I will ever get, because I got sick a week later
-
Yes, and it will be the first and last one that I will ever get, because I got sick a week later
Its not worth it getting that shot, it does no good. I got it last year and not even a day and i got sick.
-
I got the flu shot this year and I have been sick with the flu 3 times!!!!
-
i cant remember the last time i had the flu, so my opinion is why mess with a good thing. i've heard a lot of people get sick after getting it anyway, some of you guys too i see. but i do think that there are those who should and need to get it, there aren't a lot of rules that apply to all i guess. :dontknow:
-
I took my Mother to get her's and wish I would have got one. I got it twice so far this season. :(
-
NOPE! NOT THIS YR. I HAD 1 LAST YEAR AND I HAD A BAD ASTHMA ATTACK FROM IT! STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED? BUT, I HAVE CANCER AND ASTHMA SO THINGS CAN HAPPEN WITH MEDICINES & SHOTS.
-
i've never had a flu shot, actually. i don't see that it would help all that much. my parents get them and usually get sick regardless..
-
no,wish I id sick with it now
-
No I haven't gotten the flu shot for a while now. I did get it once and that was the second time i have ever gotten the flu. My son gets the flu shot because he usually stays sick all winter long with breathing and allergy problems.
-
Nope. Never had one. My mother is a RN and we had a discussion about the flu shot one evening. We just wondered if it is really safe because it is our understanding that the shots contain Mercury.
-
Didn't get a flu shot, never have and never plan to. :o
-
no i didnt. i have heard to much bad stuff on them
-
Never had one. Can't remember when I had the flu last but I think I'd prefer theraflu or some other OTC meds to the possible side effects of a flu shot. I hate getting shots.
-
I work in a doctor's office and was STRONGLY urged to get one this year. I actually haven't been sick as much as I was in previous years, so I really think it did work! Before I would get several colds and be achy throughout flu season mostly and even beyone (I'm exposed to everything, you know), but so far so good this year :) I was pleasantly surprised.
One note, though-I DID get a rash at the site of the injection. I have really sensitive skin, though, so I guess it could just be me. I've heard of that reaction before, too, though.
-
I have the flu now so I wish I would've.
But of course that's life.
-
I get one every year. I have asthma, and I've had the flu. Not a good combination. I hate shots, but having the flu would be a lot worse.
I have asthma too! Every time i get the flu, my asthma acts up a lot, and causes a lot of symptoms and forsaken pain, usually since of stiff muscles and weakness after the destruction asthma can do, so i take the shot every year. :icon_rr:
-
I work at a hospital and can get the shot, but I choose not to because as soon as I do I will get the flu.
-
I've heard that if you get it a bunch of times in a row you're good to skip a few years b/c you've covered most of the strains.
But I don't get one anymore, even though I have asthma and get pnemonia when I get the flu. I think I'm still covered by previous shots.
