I will break out a red pencil on birthday cards and circle spelling errors. The forum at Fusioncash has an astronomical number of errors in spelling. I have seen a couple of the bloggers try to correct people who have posted only to be reprimanded for doing so. For those of you that are mis-spelling words, don't take offense, take the input given to you by those of us on this site that like reading intelligently put together responses. I don't believe that I am asking too much. Any job worth doing is worth doing right...so take the time to spell your words correctly. Spell check does wonders.

Your suggestion has merit however, it's somewhat of a lost cause. This is partly because some members treat online forums as casual conversation places where spelling and grammar are secondary to coming across as semi-literate; while several other members use cellphone 'chatspeak' or, just don't know how to spell. Spelling errors will occur to anyone; grammatical errors are nominally the result of poor writing skills and it may be asking too much of some to improve them.

I am so sorry for you. Stuff like this used to bother me until I learned to just ignore it.
-
Not really bc i know people are informal on here. It is sad, but not annoying.
-
Doesn't really bother me when it is on a discussion board. Mistakes happen.

We have become so comfortable with communicating with texts that spelling words correctly becomes a thing of the past. It's all about quickness.

That probably applies more to superficiality than to depth of meaning. Textual 'chat-speak' isn't reknowned for conveying profound concepts.
-
It does annoy me that people went through all that schooling to be so lazy with their spelling. It makes me cringe a little, but people aren't going to change.
-
I don't think spelling should matter for the most part. I think grammar is more important than spelling, because what good is it when I can't even make out the sentence?
-
I think I may be a frustrated English teacher or something. Spelling errors are like chalk on a black board to me whether it be in forums, newspapers, online or in books--I have seen them in each of these venues.

"Rite, coz it don't not mater weather u kin esplain differential topology and quantum field theory or knot if'n yer rittin' is macon ya look lik an idjit."
-
Sorry never could spell, have them add spell check if it annoys you that much.
-
it doesnt bother me. I just ignore the problems and read what other have to say,
-
lord i hope i spell all this right or correctly. i don't like alot of misspelling 1s or2 ok but sometimes it's a typing error going to fast or not going back to check but nobody is being graded here but i know what you mean i hate when there is a long post to read anyway not here but elsewhere with alot of errors
-
Yes, everyone will sometimes have a typing error and it does not bother me. I do not want to judge people.
-
It does not bother me to read misspelled words. But spell checker does help, lol.
-
Absolutely! I am amazed to see how many people who have "graduated" high school and still are unable to correctly spell every word within a sentence. . . especially the word usage of words like, to and too, or, there and their. Often people interchange these words without realizing they are not using these words within the correct context usage. Whew. :o
-
Sometimes it is annoying when words are spelled incorrectly, but we are not in school and being graded on our spelling. Just wondering why so many people think this is like texting and use many of the words used while texting. Too many gadgets in our communication cause people to lose sight of what is proper etiquette for the type of communication they are using. Rock On Spell Check!!!!! LOL
-
Sorry I was teached to spoke in de LA Unified scool district....
-
To me, it's not so much spelling. It is not using forms of to, too, there, their, and they're correctly. Although, I have caught myself using them wrong before. I was more involved with what I was communicating. But I don't think that you have to be so brutal about it. Some people aren't good spellers. However, it doesn't mean that they are lazy or uneducated. A lot of people that have hard time spelling are great at Math! Every one has their own personal opinions, talents, and culture. Something like grammar having an affect on input is ridiculous.
-
I don't get upset about missed spelled words. A lot of people do this, I just over look them. There's a lot of other things to get upset about then this!
-
It used to annoy me a lot, but I've learned to get over it. I'm horrible at math, so I just try to understand that everyone has different skills.
-
I thought I was the only one that could identify a word not correctly written. You know most of us only read the first and last letter of most words, so the most terribly written word you should be able to read. I think the cell phones and the emails are really messing up our language.
-
In a forum posting, spelling words incorrectly doesn't bother nearly as much as using less for fewer, there for their, your for you're, etc.
-
I've been seeing friends updates on facebook and them spelling "you", "yu" and this really irritates me for some reason. I mispell things sometimes but I feel this is unnessisary :angry7:

You feel this is ... what?

It only bothers me when others spend their time complaining and correcting someone else because of their spelling instead of addressing the subject in the thread. Iff'n you don't like the way I talk, then skedaddle down the dirt road to one of my neighbors on another part of the mountain... maybe in the next holler.
-

What about those who spend their time making empty assertions and subsequently not addressing the subject in the thread?
-
I hate that, and punctuation and stuff, like, I even text with proper grammar and whatnot.

You are an exception to the general perception of 'texters' being somewhat impatient and going for the "instant messaging" isn't fast enough for them concept, (no matter how garbled the message itself may be).
-
I have the same problem! I think it is an Internet problem...some kind of computer glitch.
-
Oh, and if you are one of the many who couldn't learn to diagram a sentence when you were in school, it's not your fault--you just were not taught properly. Everyone can learn to do it with the right teacher.
I need the write teacher.

yeah it bothers me because i'm a good speller. gfcdghfcjhv ha ha :bootyshake:
-
It doesn't really bother me. Everyone makes an error or two. Even I spell things wrong time to time. I just learned to ignore or correct others mistakes.
-
OMG, I actually get annoyed with people like you. :BangHead: why can't you understand what others are trying to say? :dontknow:
-
I hate that, and punctuation and stuff, like, I even text with proper grammar and whatnot.
It's funny because her punctuation is incorrect, ;D but it bothers her.
-
It doesn't bother me beause people can make typos when typing posts. If someone make the mistake of trying to correct someones spelling I agree they should be reprimanded for giving out unwanted advice on correct spellings. You don't take it as good advice, you take it as someone trying to play Mother to others and think they know best.
-
It doesn't bother me because I misspell/mistype all the time :P English is my second language so I do better in my native language though.
-
I can't stand grammatical errors.
However, if you spend any time online then you are obviously going to see that a lot. :P
-
People that misspell words don't bother me as much, because most of the time I just assume that they're typo's. I do it myself sometimes (but not often)...What I absolutely HATE is when people deliberately misspell words. For instance they would use dat, wit, and da, in place of, that, with and the...Just because you speak poor english (ebonics) doesn't mean you have to spell it that way. (They actually enjoy being ignorant and I can't stand it). I come across people on Youtube who do that and I refuse to read any of their comments.

sometimez
-
I suppose I run the risk of being roasted like I was for not going along with the people griping about not putting topics in the right area, but this doesn't concern me in the least.People should make an effort to spell correctly and clearly, but it doesn't send me into a rage or anything if they don't.
-
I can't say that this bothers me in the slightest. I have a lot more important things to worry about in life than the words not being spelled correctly.
-
There really are, more important things to worry about ,today then someones spelling and or grammer. How petty.
-
The way some people type online these days is incredibly irritating. I just don't see the point of leaving out vowels, using numbers in place of letters, shortening words that honestly have no business being shortened (one example: "is"), alternating between lower case and capital letters, improper word usage (grammar or using a word that doesn't mean what you are trying to use it as), or just plain typing like you are one the most uneducated, illiterate dim wits in the universe. I understand mistakes can happen, but to type absolutely NOTHING correctly........is :bs:

Sounds like 'chatspeak'; a lazy way of communication nominally employed by the impatient.
-
Use a laptop for a minute and let it all skip around on you.

In response to the OP: YES spelling/grammatical errors peeve me a little bit! And it's scary how commonplace they are. I'm sorry, but I do judge your intelligence based on your ability to have a proper command of the English language.

sure sometimes

Somehow, a person who declares that they're "a highly-skilleded noo-clee-air tecknishun whose fixin' ta git ready to push this hare red button marked 'lunch'" doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence in other people?
-
Dang, that sounds just like falcon trying to be a comedian. Wait, he's really only here to irritate others. Comedian?... Pain in the *bleep*?... Wow, how do we decide?

Wow, that reads like "cheetah" is trying to appear sardonic, (look it up), and failing. Wait, he's only here to complain about being unable to substantiate his empty claims, right? How is one to decide, (when both apply)?

You may be a candidate for Dragon voice recognition software.

Occassionally its annoying. ...did I spell that right? ??? lol
-
I don't see what the big deal is........Maybe some people just cant spell very well. Do illiterate people annoy you to? :angry7:

If you can't spell a word then you either use a word you can actually spell or use spell check. It's really not that complicated. It annoys me when people use to use big words to sound smart or try to insult someone and spell it incorrectly.

'Abso-frickin-lutely'. This is why I only use words that I comprehend the meaning of, (being that it's not really my concern if others cannot understand them since I endeavor to not 'dumb it down' for the semi-literate).
-
I know one thing. I'm going to have to watch my spelling better.
-
I feel your pain! However, I don't expect to see much of an improvement in the grammar and spelling of the younger generation any time soon, as literacy in America has gone down the toilet. When I was a kid, we diagrammed sentences and drilled sentence structure. Our handwriting skills were put through rigorous exercises to the detriment of my poor calloused fingers. Spelling mattered from the very first day I started school. Now, imaginary spellings and phonological attempts are lauded, and our poor little Kindergarteners and First Graders are learning to write whatever makes sense to them, with little to correct them. I know this after spending a lot of time in a classroom. So, vent here if you need to, but do not expect them to take what you say to heart, since their teachers did not expect any more out of them...
-

The last time I heard that, it was from a wiccan. She had an earthy sense of humor.

Or a brain surgeon :o lol It would be great to know they can read.

Doesn't really bother me when it is on a discussion board. Mistakes happen.
So you have heard about the dyslexic devil-worshipper who mistaken summoned 'santa' then?
No, but I did hear about the dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac who spent his nights lying awake wondering whether or not there was a 'dog'. ;D
... on topic now ...
As a moderate dyslexic myself ["Dyslexics of the world untie!" ;D], I do my best to try to use correct spelling, but I know I make mistakes. I use Google to get a hit on a dictionary entry whenever I get the red squiggly line, and if I cannot find one, I'll substitute a synonym I can spell. My typical error is omitting articles, particularly when I'm typing fast or am tired. So I apologize for any past, present and future misspellings.
I don't mind some of the entries where the sentence structure is not perfect. I've learned a few foreign languages and typically can tell if the post is made by someone where English is their second language as there is a distinct grammatical structure that parallels some of the languages I've encountered. I can make sense of those due to knowing how the foreign language sentence structure works and can understand what the individual was attempting to communicate.
My personal pet peeve are posts written mainly in "text speak". The use of occasional common short cuts, such as "lol" or "rofl" or "imo", I don't mind. It's the ones where the bulk of the post is all in this type of syntax. To me, most of those posts are like deciphering a coded message. Many I am unable to decode so I end up skipping the post altogether.
-
I have to say it is irritating....however in today's world everyone is in a hurry and no time for double checking error's.....I also believe it depends on what you are writing if it is here who cares!....a paper for school big difference.....I just think we have more things to get upset about or irritated with....and if the person who makes the mistake doesn't care why should we.....But it does speak for your character and how you present yourself at least that's my two cents!
-
I do get somewhat irritated with poor spelling but I don't believe public schools teach much of anything that they should anymore. The winners of the national spelling bee mostly come from private schools where kids are taught worthwhile subjects.
-
I hate when I incorrectly spell something. Though I will be the first to admit that I do so, probably more often than I realize it. Certainly I am not great at re-reading what I am typing. Then I'm so more likely to re word my meaning than to look up a word. Often I find that I spelled the word correctly, just second guessed myself to a point that I wasn't comfortable posting it. LOL Overall, this is a chat room. Don't expect great things :)

It may be that more than a few are using their 'smartphones' to not only text but, to reply to online forums, (continuing to use what they're used to, likely). Others merely convey impatience, (not with others but, with giving the impression that a lack of grammar indicates other lacks).

YES, ITS LIKE I HAVE WRITERS BLOCK. BUT SOMETIMES I REMEMBER LATER ON BUT SOMETIMES ITS TO LATE SO I JUST PASS ON IT. COLLEGE IS WERE YOU GOT TO SPELL THEM BIG WORDS AND I BE LOOKING AROUND THEN I REMEMBER IT

People making spelling and or grammar mistakes on the web is bound to happen. I know personally I try to not make spelling mistakes, but I tend to type fast and letters in words will get mixed up. I.e. Like will come out as liek. It's become somewhat of a joke with a friend of mine where when he does it he'll go "Urgh I've been talking to you for too long I'm starting to type like you!"
-
Yes I get annoyed with miss spelled words. People miss spell my name all the time I hate it. Dictionary or internet . Spell right.
-
I think there are places for proper grammar and speech and there are places that can live without it. Certainly internet forums, chat and text messages are casual in nature and as a result the grammar and spelling are lax. Now if you were to send in an application, submit a prestigious article or write a novel I really hope the person is doing their research correctly and proofreading before it is published or read. The beauty of language is that it is always changing and those that stick to strict rules will be left in the past. There is no reason to criticize others about grammar and spelling unless it is completely illegible or it is your job to do so and in that case keep that mentality for your job, not your free time. And if it still bothers you, you are free to leave the forum at any time.
