Title: Work at home scams
Post by: tj32 on February 15, 2009, 03:21:18 am
Has anyone ever been SCAMMED by a work from home company?

There seems to be a lot of reports in the news lately about work from home scams.  Last week I read one about people being arrested for working with some of those secret shoppers sites.  Apparently, they where paid to pick up and ship items that turned out to be stollen goods.  Some where arrested just for cashing the pay check the company mailed to them (scary  :sad1:).

This morning CNN reported about work from home companies that scam you by asking for money upfront, only to run off with your money and personal information.

Yeah also if they say they are in another country and they want you to process payments. You cash a "fake" check and then send them 90% and you keep 10%. but what happens is you send them cash and the bank ends up taking the money right back out of your account and then your out everything.

I keep getting those everyday. It's really annoying. I really want to find a legit work at home job. I have

Yep, the overseas lotteries, accepting local payments for international companies, somebody died and left millions, get a loan from some unknown foreign loan shark that just so happen to get your email address, dun seen em all :dontknow: In fact, I accepted checks for international companies, I even had them send money to Paypal and transfer money into a bank account I opened specifically for that! U think I gave them anything H... F...... NAW ;) Man, I mustv kept all the money; I figured if my name gone be messed up, I might as well be the one benefit ;D So i kept it all, i still have over $3000 on hold at a bank collecting me interest even though I can't touch the $3000 cause it's frozen! But I made quite a few thousand doing it, cause I kept it all - what they gone do, come over here and get me? I doubt it!!! Cyber Punks

As far as the secret shopper thing, they're quite a few that are good, but if you have to pay, it's garbage!!

I am very skeptical about the work at home jobs they all seem to want a monthly fee. and there is really no proof that they are really successful except for the same guy that says that he has made millions.

Ok guys, Work at home jobs are plentiful out there! I've worked at home with 1800Flowers, there's Odesk - which I post simple assignments on for people to complete, VIPDesk, Work at Home Cooperative - there are plenty of legit work at home jobs there, liveops, West At Home, Alpine, Customloyal, and plenty more! These sites, just add a .com at the end and you'll have the site!

Thats the ones I stay away from. anything asking for money I say away. I have made some extra bucks, not as much as I thought I would though.

I agree with you JLBT2, stay away from anything that asks for money upfront!  They should pay me for working for them, not vise versa.

There are too many work at home scams. Thankfully, once I confirm that they request a 'small fee' which is supposedly discounted to attract individuals, I dismiss it as a scam. Red light - if they ask for money upfront. Credit card information needed. Stay away.
Personally I have done a few mystery shopping jobs and currently have assignments scheduled for March month. They don't pay too much $5 -$15 per assignment, with the $15 ones requesting you to provide detailed feedback about the shopping experience and customer service. Most reimburse you fully or partially for the purchase made. I mostly use my mystery shopping money for grocery expenses

this is really hard to make a decision because it was one of those sites that brought me here?
also, i found out about the work at home sites from "Reader's Digest" in an article called 'Your Next Job' ??? about finding a job in this slumping economy. makes you say "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Anything that asks for money upfront is definetly questionable and i wouldn't even consider doing. It's kinda ridiculous how much companies can get away with too without getting in trouble.   The only one who suffers are the people who are sucked into it by losing their money.  With the way the economy is today too so many people are looking for different ways to make money so these scams are probably rolling in the dough!

I Agree, things that dont require money unless you are listing somelike like on ebay, sound likea good idea to try. Just like fusioncash a great site you can make money on and does not require money up front.

exactly why you make up names and age. never your real name to any work at home site. and also a different email adress

I wish they were true!  I've been interested in selling on ebay for a while, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to get started or where everyone gets their various products from.
