Title: Baby names
Post by: reiddb on April 10, 2012, 11:41:21 am
My sister-in-law just had a baby today...a boy!  Just wondering what are some of your favorite baby names these days?

I still like the names I picked out for my kids. Karina, Calvin, Adleigh, and Chadrik. It was always hard for me to find boys names though. They seem much harder to find than the slew of pretty girls names.

It is important to put great thought into a name. I know some parents think unique names that are spelled differently are wonderful but it makes it difficult for the child as they go to school because neither the teacher nor the other children can spell or pronounce it.

I don't have any kids but I like Asa, Drew, Elijah, Corey, and Dominic for a boy (for a girl I like, Jasmine, Kyla, Gabrielle, Brianna and Chante).  :)

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant right now.  The book What To Expect When You're Expecting has a really cool iPhone app pretty much dedicated to names and has the top 1000 names for girls and boys going all the way back to 1950!

Sorry ... I have a lot of names for boys that I like. :)  My problem will be choosing just ONE of them!

Ethan, Kendall, Maxwell, Parker, Warner, Preston, Mason, Carter, Benton, Aiden, Ashton, Braxton, Bentley, Dominick, Grayson, Harper, Kayden, Lennon, Sawyer, Spencer, Tanner

I completely agree!  I used to work at a children's hospital.  You'd be surprised at all the horrible ... I mean unique spellings I used to see for kids.

My husband and brother in law both have very generic names, and they both hate how many people have their same name, but I think I would take a boring name over one spelled so strange that no one knows how to pronounce it.  Plus, people will ALWAYS be spelling your child's name wrong!  And how is that going to look 25 years down the road when your child is trying to be a successful business man/woman?  Seeing a strange name spelling on a business might make people think twice about going to them, no matter how intelligent they are.

Of course, I like my sons name: Case and my daughter: Malina. However girl names that I also like is Sabine or Amelie and for boys you can't go wrong with Nicholas and Anderson is kind of fun.

I like my kids' names
Raina-Rane Jazmine (girl)
River James (boy)
&
Romma-Reese Jade (girl)

IMO they're unique without being ridiculous sounding and, while some of the spellings may be a bit out of the norm it's not so far out there that you can't tell what it is. The only part people tend to get confused on is the 'Rane' part in my oldest daughters name. A lot of people want to pronounce it like 'Rain'. That is not how it is said at all, it's more closer to how you'd say 'Renee' but not quite. The 'a' makes a 'u' sound like in 'up'.
