Yes, I do. Please share your recipes!
I love making homemade potato soup. It's one of my favorite comfort foods.

I do not take chances. I use canned or powder soups because the companies already took the mysteries of ingredients and flavors. They have all figured it out.
-
my grandma usually makes me home made soup

I will make homemade anyday over store bought. It is so much better for you. Doesn't have all the additives they put in. When i left over vegs. of almost any kind i freeze them and then when i go to make a beef veg. soup i just throw all of the vegs. in the freezer it is yummy.

I haven't yet, but would like to try to make some one day. A friend of mine gave me a tip she learned - when it comes to meat and vegetables - just put them in the soup basically whole (or halved, maybe quartered) - particularly the hard to cut stuff (like the meat). After you cook everything in the broth, then take a cooking scissors and carefully cut up the meat and veggies. They are a lot easier to cut into smaller pieces after they are cooked than before. I never thought of that, but it sounds way easy to make soup that way. That was always my hang-up - the pre-cutting of everything. Hope this tip helps anyone who hadn't thought of that either.

I always make soups from scratch. Love it that way, and I like the fact, that I know what stuff is there in my soups.
-
I always make vegetable soup and chicken or turkey noodle from scratch. I've tried ham and bean but it never turns out very good. I always make my chili from scratch too.
-
I love homemade soup, it is the best tasting soup... but I have never made it from scratch myself. I think that it is the healthiest way to have soup.
-

:wave:I love making fresh(from scratch)home-made soups. I guess my favorite is corn chowder. I saute onions, diced carrots and celery in olive oil, then I sprinkle flour over the veggies and mix them together over low heat. Let that cook for about 2 minutes, then add milk. You constantly stir to make sure there is no lumps. Bring the milk up to a simmer on medium heat. Make sure you are still stirring your milk mixture to make sure that it does not scortch the bottom of the pan. Once to a simmer bring your heat down to low heat and let cook down for about 20 to 25 minutes. Add frozen corn about 10 minutes into the cooking time, finish cooking 15 more minutes. Then I add diced sauted bell peppers and ham straight to the pot. Let that cook another 5 minutes on low-meduim heat. When it is through cooking I add some cream and s&p to taste. And man is it good tasting.

I do make some homemade soups, but chicken noodle is the best ever! Especially if someone is feeling a little under the weather. Oh, I have a recipe for Egg Drop Soup that I like better than a lot of Chinese restaurants!!! Yum!

I just started making homemade soup. Nothing tastes as great as homemade vegetable and chicken noodle soup. I want to learn to make mulligitawny, that's my favorite soup.
-
that is the best soup to make

I make most of my soups from scratch starting with the broth. That is the only way that you can be sure what is in them and also I can make them the way everyone in the family likes. It takes extra time but I make a couple different types at one time and then freeze them to use later in the week.
-
that is the best way to make it from nothing like gumble

I've made several different soups from scratch: chicken noodle, 7-bean soup (with ham hocks and tomato juice), vegetable beef and barley, and chili. I esp love to make the chicken noodle from leftover chicken roast that I also made from scratch. I like to brine my chicken for the roast, and then stuff it with a mixture of herbs, veggies, and fruit (lemon and apple mostly). Also an herb-butter rub on and under the skin. The brine causes the chicken to suck in all of the juices from the stuffing and the herb-butter on the outside keeps the juices from escaping, so the chicken is always very flavorful and juicy. So then when I go to make my soup, all of that flavorful chicken gets added to the soup; it makes it so that not only is the broth flavorful, but also the chicken too.
Last November for Thanksgiving, I also tried making a butternut squash bisque from a recipe I found on Food Network's website. Although it was very good, the recipe called for a bunch of white pepper to be used, and we all agreed after trying it that the amount called for was just a little too much; that the white pepper tended to mask the taste of the squash rather than enhancing it. When my friend and I were on a trip down south, we went to a restaurant that had a pumpkin soup that was similar to the bisque. My friend enjoyed it so much that she talked with the chef and was able to get a copy of their recipe so she made that for Thanksgiving the year before I made my bisque. One of the main differences was that the actually prepped a pumpkin broth before actually making the soup, so the final product was much smoother and more like a soup than my bisque. Also they tended to use more of the spices associated with pumpkins: cinnamon, cloves, allspice etc. so it was a little more sweet than the savory bisque that I made. Both were excellent, though, and I'll probably make it again sometime for the family.

I like it when I can throw a lot of different things in a crock pot and walk away. I've found some great soup recipes, and recipes in general, on the Food.com website. One thing I like about that site is people experiment with the recipes and then rate them. You can "pull up" the soup recipes that have the most 5 star ratings and then you know...
you've struck gold.

I wish I knew how to make my own noodles, I have been told it is very time consuming but worth it. I just haven't tried it yet. I always end up making homemade bread to go with my soup instead. :)

Oh...great question...this is a funny spot in my relationship. My boyfriend and I usually love to get into the kitchen together and create. But, NOT when it comes to soups, that's a rule made for a reason. I am too picky about my soups and I stick so close to what I was taught in my Grandmother's kitchen. If he wants to throw this and that in a pot, then, okay (when it's his turn to cook) ...but my soups are a work of art and he will admit it. He has bragged on them numerous times. His favorite is my beef and mushroom soup.

It does take a while to make your own noodles. Most of the time is spent waiting for them to dry though.

I co make homemade soups all the time! I just made split pea the other day and potato soup a few weeks ago. I always make soup from the Turkey frame at Thanksgiving and just make a Chicken Noodle soup from a roasted chicken frame a month ago. I, too, like other members do not use a recipe, but make it up as I go. Some soups that I make often I have a standard set of ingredients I use, but everything is done to the eye and taste. Would love to see you share your recipe!
