Hiatal hernia occurs when a portion of the stomach is pushed into the diaphragm. Surgery is sometimes required but reducing stomach acid-producing foods may help.
Foods to Avoid: Caffeine, chocolate, regular & decaf coffee, and certain spices such as cayenne. Limit high-fat foods.
Foods to eat: High-fiber foods, such as vegetables and whole grains, help suppress the secretion of stomach acid. Vegetables high in fiber include broccoli, celery and carrots. Breads high in fiber contain at least 2 grams per slice.

My mom had this. She had surgery twice for it. She continued to suffer, but she was a very angry person and would have trouble when she got upset/angry. :angry7:
I suggest practicing stress reducing activities such as meditation and anything that you enjoy that puts you in a calm mood. :peace:
Ginger is great for the digestion. Keep some ginger ale or candied ginger with you.
I've also been reading that the stomach is often misdiagnosed as having too much acid when it actually needs more. I believe that was in my big "Alternative Medicine" book.

I have one and am not restricted to any type of food. Just have to chew food slowly and not gulp anything down.
