They got punished pretty hard this morning.....football didnt get the dreaded "death penalty"....but they got fined $60 million, lost 50 scholarships or so, had all their wins removed dating back to 1998, no postseason play for a while........ all well deserved punishments if you ask me.
I dont see them winning too many football games in the future.
Very sad story how Paterno went from king of that school to how he is now being remembered, as someone who helped harbor a monster child molester.

It seems to me that Paterno has become the criminal while Sandusky is being largely ignored. They might as well have given the football program the death penalty as Penn State will not be able to get any kind of good players to go there since they have no chance of winning.

A justified punishment, and honestly, probably more harsh than the "death penalty". With the loss of scholarships, the ability of current players to transfer immediately with no waiting period, and no opportunity for bowls or Big Ten championship games for four seasons, it will take at least 8 years for the program to become relevant and competitive again. Add that to the monetary fine, and to me, it's much worse than a one or two year death penalty.
Kudos to the NCAA for once.

Being as Paterno helped shield a child predator for 14 (possibly more) years, there is no excuse that people can make saying he isn't involved. This is an institution that is suppose to guide people on the path to become productive citizens in life. Protecting your legacy so your wins-program-recruiting classes aren't diminished is just as damning as doing the act itself. The only real way we'll know if this worked is if the next time an employee of an institution comes across someone committing a crime doesn't walk away and the people above him don't try to hide it. I'd like to hear what the victims think, in reality, that's the only opinion that matters in this case.

why is the team being punished for Sandusky? Sandusky is the bad guy in all of this! I think that Governor Corbet should be punished than too. I feel that they should leave the incident people alone all they are doing is hurting the victims more. Stop and think about them and their feelings and emotions. :peace:

Obviously you haven't been paying attention to the subject. Read the report before you ask why an institution that covered up the WORST scandal in NCAA history should be punished.

The punishment will never fit the crime. countless numbers of lives were destroyed by the actions of Penn State, and I do not believe that you can put a price on that.

The Penn state program (and Joe) got exactly what they deserved. The need to be banned and his records must be scrubbed. I'm glad they stripped the record and hammered the university.

I thought the punishment was pretty fitting. This was definitely worse than other scandals involving paying players, etc.

No, you aren't. Any player currently at Penn State has been granted the chance to transfer without sitting out. If you choose to stay and play for a schoolthat puts football above decency, no one feels sorry for you.

Its sad that something like this went on for so many years and no one stood up. Punishment fits but the pain will always be there and the thought of what went on there will be in back of every players and students minds.

Because the people who had a reckless disregard for the welfare of children should be the only ones that are penalized for their failure to disclose information. For the Penn State football players who believed in the tradition of Penn State and played their hearts out every game will suffer the most. To me the players were penalized more than the people responsible for the cover up of the child abuse scandal.

If this wasn't the scandal it was and it this was just about cheating condoned and hidden by everyone in the institution, the entire institution would still have to take a big hit because those players, even if they weren't involved, benefited from the improprieties of the institution. You can't say "well, we benefited here, but not here" and dissect it. Once it's all tainted, you burn it all. Those involved should have thought about the reputation of their institution, their students, and most importantly, those kids.
