Title: "Made In America"
Post by: Gerianne on August 05, 2012, 06:30:41 am
A friend and I were talking over dinner.
He mentioned that it is a good idea to look for items that are made in U.S.A. when shopping.

I try to buy stuff made in America or pretty much anything that isn't made in China at least.  The bad thing is almost EVERYTHING electronic is made in China.  Even if you find something that has Japanese capacitors, the actual raw material itself is mined in China.  It's really annoying knowing how bad the economy has been for a few years now that the government isn't going out of its way to make sure businesses either stay in country to produce goods or at the very least do more to encourage new businesses to create goods.  You see something that says made in America and 90% of the time it actually means the smaller parts were mined/created in China,  circuit boards and stuff are assembled in Taiwan or Japan, and then the final bigger pieces were assembled in the U.S.A. Then, they slap a made in USA sticker on it.  I work freelance; I personally go out of my way to make sure I don't offer my services to people in other countries, half the time they're not even trustworthy and it's not like you can report them to the BBB anyway.

You will also see products with parts that are entirely made in America but they are shipped out to be assembled in China.  Often times these products do not hold up as well as expected, but can always be disassembled and reassembled to proper specifications if this is known.

It is, since it helps keep money in the US. I try sometimes, but it's really hard nowadays when so majority of things seem to be "Made in China" or some other country, and things in the US also usually cost more since labor is cheaper overseas :-

I often try to do that!  So many tings are made overseas nowadays!   Americans need to support the U.S. and buy items made here!

I agree that it's hard to find anything not made in China these days but there are a great many things that I simply don't trust Chinese to produce safely.

I agree and I do try to buy american made products but if you want to open a real can of worms try to determine if the product is grown in the United States.

I try real hard to buy made in america products but, this day and age its getting harder and harder.  I feel we all live in America,  BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS.    I had a tee shirt once that said

BUY BUY BUY AMERICAN
BYE BYE BYE RECESSION

I still believe that.

It's actually pretty difficult to find stuff that is made in the USA. And most of the time, the stuff that I can find that is made in the USA is a lot more expensive. However, I have found that the quality of USA made products is better and the customer service/support is better also. So, I guess you get what you pay for.

I wish there were more products made in America. There should be a store that you could go to that sells nothing but made in America products, that would steal all of Walmarts customers!!!!

Frankly, I'm all for companies making money. I think it's great that other countries are being more industrious. There are even parts of me that are proud of them. I feel I suppose like most Americans, I 'm sick and tired of companies exporting our jobs out of the US. To me it's almost treason. They want the protection of the United States. (Our sons) I think if they export jobs they should not be protected they should make base in the country of their choice and operate under the laws of that country with no rights here. If they want to support others let them get their protection from them. There is so much more I want to say about this topic but it just makes me angry. So bye! :bs: :bs: :bs:

I try to buy things made in America, but it's difficult to do.  If there was a "Made in America" type store, I would definitely go to it.

I think there is a website online that only sells Made in USA items, but I don't know the address. I remember seeing it somewhere.
I try to get whatever I can made in USA, but it's not always possible. I don't mind spending more money for a better product, but a lot of times what I want isn't even available at all.
One thing I was wondering about things that say "Made in America" rather than "Made in USA". How do we know they are really made in the USA, rather than some other North or South American country like Mexico?

I will probably get pounded for saying this, but from my learning we all descended from the same God and people all over the world need help too. Most of the jobs the Chinese do for us are ones Americans would quit after a day or two. Have you seen any of the documentaries about how the Ipad is manufactured? I sure don't want that job, but I want someone else to do it so OUR ECONOMY can benefit from the massive sales.

This is a shame! I have also tried to buy things that are made in USA. Clothes are difficult to find anywhere, Unless you go to specialty stores like Dicks or something on that line. I try to buy all my appliances at Sears, they are probably not parts from USA but, most of the products are assembled here. Clothes I have shopped for and have gone place to place and have found very little made in USA, I even shopped for my grandson at sears, quite a bit more expensive than other places but, they are good to their employee's and everything we bought for him was made somewhere else other than US, Pakistan, indonesia.
