Title: Christmas shopping
Post by: vmcutshall on September 21, 2012, 08:47:38 am
Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet?

I have done some of mine so I am not pressed for money around Christmas time.

Haven't started shopping yet. I usually get more in the mood to do Christmas things after Halloween is over.

I try to pick up things during the year that several people I know will like, then when Christmas gets close I go through and start deciding which person to give which gift.
THEN I go shopping and get for those that are left.
Really keeps from having to 'pull together' money at Christmas time.

Actually I have not started yet, it never even crossed my mind to do so. It will probably be in november or something like that, I don't know yet.

I shop all year for Christmas, but I do like to go when all the Christmas stuff is out and just look and buy if I see something that someone might want.

Oh yeah--I've been shopping since the first of June, a bit at a time; also began making some things at about that time, too.  I don't want to go thru what I've gone thru the last couple of years.  If I start early I don't end up chasing my tail (which isn't nearly as much fun as it sounds.)

I usually start my holiday shopping by now to avoid the crowds but this year it's going to have to wait until November  :-

Nope, but it's around this time of the year that I start looking for things to get people.  If my mom really loves a series on TV, I start looking up prices and deals and put it on a list so I can discuss it later with the other members of the family.

I shop all year long.  It doesn't make financial sense to wait, for me.  When I see a huge clearance sale, I check it out.  Last weekend, Tuesday Morning had all of their clearance items an additional 40% off.  I got some wooden toy sets that are normally $35 each for $7 each.  I stick it all in my closet and Christmastime always ends up being fun for less!

I haven't started Christmas Shopping yet. But I have started Pampered Chef so I can increase my income so there will be presents under the tree. I've also slashed a lot of bills by shopping around for trash, phone, cell phone, internet providers that offer cheaper prices. I think I'll be saving more than $1000+ a year due to my changes. On trash alone, which I switched yesterday, I'll save nearly 300/year!

I prefer to shop throughout the year because less crowds, not so cold, can watch for bargains.  The winter brings so many more added expenses for us - holidays, annual property tax and car insurance premiums, heating.  My biggest problem is just deciding what to get.

I have not even started thinking about Christmas yet.
That's actually one thing I don't like about Christmas. Everyone gets so wrapped up in the presents aspect of it.
Wait until after Thanksgiving! Enjoy autumn...don't rush in to Christmas.

I watch for things all year long that I know people will like.  I have a box in a closet I put the things in, sometimes these are Birthday or Graduation gifts too!  Then I don't have to get the big hit at the  holidays.  I spend less too, because I buy when they are on sale, and or I have coupons for them, if it is a gift they like who cares if you bought it in July.  LOL     This also makes it where if I don't feel like fighting the holiday crowds I don't have to.   I have a lot of family out of the area, so I can have the Christmas boxes packed and ready to go before it gets so nuts at the post office too.   So you may not believe it, but this a a great holiday stress reliever.   I love the holidays, but I also love to be able to relax and enjoy them.

I haven't started yet, but I've thought of it but have no idea what type of presents I want to buy my loved ones. That's a smart idea though! Also, things are cheaper right now. Once Christmas gets closer prices are going to get higher.

I'm not an early shopper, maybe that is not smart, but I mostly do my Christmas shopping in December. I can't go out and buy something furry in summer, just because the low prices. I buy stuff that I need when I need them, or buy stuff that I want, when I want them. I know, I know, I should be a smarter shopper, but I guess as a man, I'm doomed to be a dumb shopper

Yes - I do shop early so I can do more.  If I wait - I won't have the money to do all I want.  I budget it out each month.
I have to admit though - I do more thinking than shopping.  Then I keep a list of all the ideas I come up with and use it to shop from.

I have already started Christmas shopping. I have been able to find some good stuff on clearance online combined with free shipping offers and extra % off codes. I have also been signing up for free stuff online and through different programs. My big score was a bunch of Fisher Price toys that i got through HouseParty. I received a Servin Surprises Kitchen & Table set with 5 accessories, Disney Princess singing Palace, and a Little Wheelies amusement park set. I let my kids open the table and a few of the accessory packs so i can do the party but the other toys i put back in the closet and are saving them for Christmas. Through couponing i have been able to get some household products free/cheap the i will put together in a gift box for family members. I did this for the first time last year and they were very happy to get them and can't wait for me to do it again this year.

Do you have too much time on your hands to even be thinking of Christmas on October 1st. No, I make my Christmas presents and mail them out by Mid-December and I don't think about them until Dec. 1st.... :BangHead:

Christmas is 2 months away, why in the world would I be shopping now, what will I do when Christmas comes.
Now's the time for saving. saving $1 a day is $365 a year, $2 is $730 etc. Do that and you'll be good for Christmas shopping.
