Title: First Time Baby..
Post by: dhines1 on September 27, 2012, 10:26:40 am
This is my first time having a baby and the shower is on Sunday. I am so excited but all this is also making think about the process of having the baby. The pain, what am i suppose to do if my water break, what type of medicine is good or should i do natural birth. Scared and happy at the same time. Any advice or encouraging words.

Hey, I'm due to have my first baby any minute now! Congrats to us both :) If you're really scared of the pain, remember you can always get an epidural. I'm planning on going through it without one, though. I plan on using distraction techniques, breathing, and just focusing on the prize at the end as much as possible. We didn't find out the sex of our baby, so I'll have that to look forward to also! Hoping it gets me through. Good luck to you, and have fun at your shower!

First off.....don't feel bad if you are planning on having a natural birth and then decide to have an epidural. And remember that when you are holding that baby in your arms you will forget all about what you went through. Try not to worry. Also I drank raspberry leaf tea in my last trimester with my 2nd child and it seemed to make things go a little easier.(always ask your Dr before consuming these types of things of course.) It also tastes really good.
I had an epidural with my 1st baby and gave birth naturally with my 2nd. Labor was induced the first time and it makes the contractions more intense. Contractions with my 2nd child were natural and I found it easier to flow with them and was able to get through it without an epidural.
BTW...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Congratulations!  Sometimes I wish mine were still babies....Just keep your options open.   Don't get too set on an idealized picture of how it should be because stuff happens and adjustments have to be made.  I had to have a c section with my first which was not what I wanted.  But in the end that didn't matter. All that mattered was baby was fine.  I had a vaginal delivery the second one.  After six hours of them trying to induce, they broke my water and it suddenly got real intense so I opted for an epidural.  She was born alert and crying.

It's not as scary as some people like to tell you! Best wishes!

You really shouldn't worry to much about the labor. You may spend 9 months worried scared about labor and yours turn out to not be that bad. Everyone is different and every labor is different don't get too caught up in other people's horror stories. Just be ready to brace whatever will come. It may be a breeze, and there are medications there to help us some people get caught up in all this no drug mess but if you need it use it that's what it's there for and it won't harm your baby. I've had 2 epidurals and a spinal for a c section and my children are fine.
