It's roots are odd but interesting ( http://www.history.com/topics/halloween ). It's just a great time of year where people have an excuse to dress up like their heroes or fav antagonists, spark kid's imaginations, air fantastic/stupid movies, and it can bring families and friends together too! It's honestly my favorite holiday. Oh, can't forget the candy though. Mmmm....
The bad? It's a reminder that the days are getting shorter and it's getting colder. Halloween is also too policed around here nowadays. It ends at like 6:30 here! I feel bad for the kids.

Well, when i was a kid you dressed up and went out and got candy. You brought the candy home and ate until slight nausea came on--and then you went to bed and the next day was Novermber 1. In my set we didn't have a lot of parties; the last time I went out I was 13. I don't remember a lot of theological ramification; we just had a good time. Also, it seems we ourselves were safer overall.
Nope--not the same at all anymore.

My kids never went trick or treating. There was always a group party for those kids in our neighbor hood and or other homes. We usually decorated the 4 h building and firehouse for a fun evening. Of course we lived 10 miles out. Some of the familes lived up too 20 miles out. Fun was had by all.

I grew up dressing up and going trick or treating! Its way to dangerous nowadays for that! There are too many evil people out there! My husband and I participate in our church's fall festival with our kids!

Why, doesn't your church view Samhain, (what's now become "halloween"), as the pagan holiday/festival it used to be?

I like how you described it. :)

Halloween isn't for adults. That's why it's not how it use to be. =-P

Even as an adult I like to dress up and change things up even if just for a night. I watch my favorite halloween movie "The Frighteners", listen to some halloween music and hand out candy to kids and maybe have a couple of drinks with my husband. It can still be fun when you are older it just changes.

Halloween is for all to celebrate because it is a FUN Day! It is an excuse to dress up in costume, which gives you the choice of being someone else. It is also a good excuse to buy candy! I don't have trick-or-treaters visit me in the country, but I can buy some candy to celebrate the mood and watch a spooky movie or TV show. As an adult, I liked the scavenger hunts and the parties after. Enjoy the season, because it will soon be time for stuffing at Turkey Day and the Mad Mad World of Xmas Shopping

The holiday is what you make of it. Just about every holiday has a very odd if not Pagen origin a little internet research will turn up all kinds of interesting things about Christmas. Halloween is a holiday more for kids, I enjoy taking my nieces out for trick or treating, it's a lot of quality time and enjoyable for all of us.

Yes. Realize that:
A) So many things in our world are myth-based/pagan/"not good" in origin, from every popular holiday/celebration to the names of the days of the week and months of the year.
B) It matters not how these things came about; only what they stand for/signify now. Do the practices involved cause harm? This should be your basis on whether it is acceptable or not. In the case of Halloween, it is good, clean fun for the most part.

Well said! It's good to see you again! :)
