This is for Christian advice on how you feel about Holloween. My parents did not let me celebrate the day, and last year my daughter Ruby didn't celebrate it. Now I have Ruby who is 3 and Alicia who is 3 months old. I am thinking maybe this Holiday has taken a different meaning. Instead of looking at it as a dark day it has become a day for candy and dressing up. Do you feel like it should not be celbrated because of its dark attachments? Do you think its just a day for candy and dressing up? Do you think its ok as long as you are not attached to its darker attachments? No argueing here. If you have different opinions I am willing to hear them, but you can say it in a nice way that is not attacking anyone. Ok thanks a lot.

we're having something at our Church for the kids. It's like a carnival with candy, games and a moon bounce! FUN!

First, this thread is posted in FC's off-topic forum, not your personal 'blog' and therefore, you don't get to dictate the form of any responses to it. Secondly, "All hallows Eve" was always a "pagan" festival, even with latter xtian assimulation attempts. Thirdly, such assimulations should be familiar to supposedly native american assimulated xtians.

Its demonic

We were in Salem, MA last week and they celebrate it the whole month of October! Maybe some folks could lighten up a little. :bunny:

No, that's xtianity.

Thats true also of Babylon the Great

No religious supertitions have valid evidence of being "true" since they're based on blind faith alone, (that which lacks evidence).

actually, halloween is really not about scary creepy things, its about celebrating all the saints who lived and are no longer with us, and most people believe our spirits live on long after our physical bodies have failed us.
-
Friendliness with the world is enmity with God says bible.
Sorry dont have bible with me now so cant quote scripture.Be glad to put it up later if 1 asks for it.
Halloween,Xmas,New Years,Easter are all pagan celebrations and do not originate with TRUE God.
-
Acurt...the bible doesnt support that.
Man goes back to dust and his thoughts perish at death says bible.
The soul that is sinning dies says scripture in Ezekiel
-
Pompous claims concerning a "true g-d" without evidence are just that; empty. Celebrating "xmas" and "easter" would be hypocritical of xtians, (or jws).
Halloween,Xmas,New Years,Easter are all pagan celebrations and do not originate with [false] TRUE God.
-
No, that was a later attempt by the xtian church to assimulate "All hallows eve" into a xtian "all saints day". The pagan festival preceded such xtian dishonest cultural theft.

let your kids dress up and have fun...

As a Born-Again Christian,I don't have much problem with celebrating Halloween. When I was a kid,we dressed up and made Jack O'Lanterns. It's basically just a day for kids to have fun, these days.
I usually spend it watching the old Universal horror films.Frankenstein,Dracula,Etc.Those old classics were very good at showing a moral lesson, and unlike today's horror films, deliver a very positive message.
-
Jedi...what kind of positive message to a xtian could a vampire sucking blood from someone be in the eyes of God?
And we see even more prevalent today the occult playing a part in many of the movies today.
-
yesssssss, i love all holidays and always go over board for them when i can, this halloween uhhh dont tell lol, but i have already bought about 130 dollars worth of candy to pass out to my nephews the bags i must say are major huge will last them until next year at least lol, but i get so excited :)

The original Dracula movie is perfect example of Good vs Evil.Dracula fears the Cross.(which is something most "modern" adaptions tend to omit) Which is a powerful testimony of the power of Christ over the devil.Like satan, dracula must hide in the dark and seduce his victims, who are usually unaware of his power. The Light of the sun (Son) is devestating to him.More examples can be made, but I agree that horror movies of today are a far cry from yesteryear. The main theme of most of those early films is the triumph of Good over Evil.Light over Darkness.

Ask the catholic (xtians) who've ritualized such "vampirism" in their pseudo-"transubstitution" rite.

Let the kids dress up and enjoy the sugar rush

Falcon9....if you paid attention to my posts i think i made it clear how i feel about the catholic religeon...and i was brought up one.

Not enough to know the jw cult's position on all hallow's eve celebration however, I'd etimate they're against it.
i think i made it clear how i feel about the catholic religeon...and i was brought up one.
So was George Carlin, although he didn't descend into further religious delusion - he broke free of them altogether.
-
I liked Carlin as a comedian but he did a bit against God saying,"everything god made dies"
It shows u what he knew.As you know man brought death on to himself...but as typical in this world God gets blamed according to him.And for what its worth,i didnt find that bit funny cos of his ignorance.
-
Your reaction emphasizes your own ignorance, not Carlin's. His humor was pointing out the inherent irrationality of specious religious beliefs which are based on blind faith, (which includes falsely attributing things to some hypothetical 'deity').

that is left up to your perspective and superstitions. My feeling is that it does not correlate at all with religion. It is like a "fun" holiday with no purpose other than to be for fun

Then you are tacitly unaware of the pagan origins of all hallow's eve.

People read way too much into Halloween. It's just a fun night for kids and forget all of the pagan, witchcraft and all of of the other creepy stuff. Let the kids be kids.

What it has become now is not what it once was. Ignorance of the past can lead to attrocities of the future.

Amen.

"Amen", "Amon", "Amun" was an Egyptian neteru, (their word for "deity"), thousands of years before the judeo-xtian theft and assimulation of that "ren", (name, in Aegyptian), which is a dishonorable plagiarism by cultural thieves.
Amen.
-
I remember that with my church we did stuff for Halloween like gatherings and having candy but it was so that teens and kids were safe and indoors.
-
As a child I dressed up. Trick or treated. Went through some corn mazes and rode a few hay rides. As I got older I attended a few haunted houses. Even as an adult I've attended costume parties through my children's schools and work. As far as I'm concerned Halloween is for the kids to dress up...load up on sugar. When I was growing up religion was never factored into the ambiance of the rituals.
-
Google why JWs do not celebrate halloween. Then let your conscience be your guide on how God feel about it.
It originated in Babylon where lots of other pagan practices did.
You will find some interesting stuff there NOT only biblical but from encyclopedia & other publications.

Reasons Why Jehovah's Witnesses Do Not Celebrate Halloween
Most people view the celebrations of Halloween as nothing more than harmless fun—an excuse for children and adults to dress up and lose their inhibitions. Some might argue that the origin of Halloween celebrations is of little consequence despite the fact that these celebrations are undeniably pagan in origin. But how should Christians view Halloween if they truly wish to worship and please God as best they can? Would even limited participation in the celebration meet with God's disapproval? The following will assist in determining the answers to these questions.
Halloween's Pagan Origin
"Its name means hallowed or holy evening." - The World Book Encyclopedia, 1952, Vol. 8, pp. 3245-6.
To really understand this "holy evening" you must realize that Halloween, as we know it today, has grown from several different sources. The main source has been traced back to religious ceremonies of the ancient Babylonians. - The New Golden Bough, Sir James Frazer, edited by Dr. T. H. Gaster, p. 468, Mentor Book, 1964; and Funk and Wagnalls Standard Dictionary of Folklore, Mythology, and Legend, 1949, p. 38.
From Babylon, this pagan religious celebration spread throughout much of the world.
The Druids of ancient Britain also borrowed this Babylonian festival and celebrated it to honor Samhain, Lord of the Dead, whose festival fell on November 1. - Halloween Through the Centuries, Linton, p. 4. They believed this pagan god called together "certain wicked souls on Halloween" - Encyclopedia Britannica, 14th ed., Vol. 11, p. 103.
In honoring this pagan god, his supplicators hoped to be protected from these "wicked souls." Therefore, many of the things done in celebrating this "holy evening" are in honor of the false gods of the Druids. For example, "When you light a candle inside the jeering pumpkin face, you are in a small way imitating the Celtic Druids" who lit "great bonfires on hilltops to honor the sun god" and thereby help keep away winter and the evil spirits. - The Book of Holidays, McSpadden, 1958 ed., pp. 149-153; and All About American Holidays, Krythe, 1962, pp. 214-215. Since the "Mother" Church (which was established in Rome about 200 years after the death of the last Apostle) embarked on a course of adopting and adapting pagan religious ceremonies into the Church, it is not surprising that elements of ancient Roman false worship were also added to the "Holy Evening" celebration. For example, "when you duck for apples ... you are doing as the Romans did - - honoring Pomona, the Roman goddess of orchards." - The Book of Holidays, pp. 149-153 and Collier's Encyclopedia, 1975, Vol. 2, p. 192.
Although Halloween poses as a Christian holiday, it is exposed as a pagan feast. One dictionary describes "pagan" as: "One of a people or community observing a polytheistic religion." "Polytheistic" means "the worship of or belief in more than one god." True Christians should consider these things as serious because God views these things very seriously. (Lev. 19:2) God Himself said: "You must not have any other gods against my face. Because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion." (Ex. 20:1-5) NWT
Yet some may wonder what harm could possibly come from letting children attend a costume party or simply participate in a superficial way. Yes, it is not Scripturally wrong for children to have a costume party or play games such as bobbing for apples. However, doing so as a part of Halloween would be celebrating that pagan religious feast. This would be compromising Christian principles. The Bible condemns the whole idea of putting a Christian mask on a pagan practice.
If pagan ceremonies, customs, god names, etc. are really mixed in with ceremonies, customs, etc. that we use today, they are not merely unacceptable - - - they are detestable to God. We must completely get away from these unclean things and not even "touch" them. (2 Cor. 6:17) Notice how exclusive the worship of God must be: "Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips." - Exodus 23:13, NIVSB. Also see: What Does the Bible Really Teach? - Take Your Stand for True Worship from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (WBTS).
Halloween and Witchcraft
The real religion celebrated by the "Holy Evening" of Halloween is still a living religion. What is sometimes called "witchcraft" has had its ups and downs but is still practiced as a religion in nearly every country of the world.
"It began in the shadowy darkness of man's early religion. It lived and flourished through the ages and it is by no means wiped out even yet. Witchcraft in the Middle Ages was the `art' of controlling natural forces by power obtained from the Devil. Witches were people who made agreements with the Evil One." - Britannica Jr., 1957 ed., Vol. 15, pp. 131-132.
Whether deluded or not, these "witches" were (and are) making a public declaration: a demonstration of their faith and a defiance of the God of the Bible. They continued to practice their religion (in many different, varying sects) in spite of great persecution. This religion of the Middle Ages actually grew out of the earlier pagan Druid religion.
"These rites did not die .... When a monk or knight swore that in a clearing of the woods he had seen witches dancing around the devil, he did not lie. What he saw was ... people worshiping with a priest of the heathen religion. The prayer meetings of the witches were called witches' Sabbaths. .... Two nights especially were set aside - October 31, called Halloween and the eve of May Day, called Walpurgis." - Britannica Jr., pp. 131-132.
"Though the Church was able to destroy the temples and outward forms of worship of these heathen religions, it could not completely eradicate the faith and beliefs of their priests and worshipers. These found an outlet during the Middle Ages in witchcraft which was devoted to the worship of Satan. This cult included periodic meetings, known as witches' sabbaths, which were given over to feasting and revelry. One of the most important sabbaths was held on Halloween." - Encyclopedia Britannica, 1956, Vol. 11, pp. 106-107.
"The witches' sabbat [sabbath], or Black Mass, was a mockery of the religious one. It began with the assembly of the witches' covens, always at night, in forests, open fields, at crossroads, and even secretly in churches.... The name `sabbats' for these meetings is believed to have come from the Old Hebrew Sabbath - the seventh day." - A Cauldron of Witches, Alderman, 1973, p. 9.
The Bible warns against the practice of spiritism. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12) The apostle Paul wrote: “I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons.” (1 Corinthians 10:20-22, New International Version) He also asked: “What common interest can there be between goodness and evil? How can light and darkness share life together? How can there be harmony between Christ and the devil? What can a believer have in common with an unbeliever?” (2 Corinthians 6:14-16, Phillips)
While it is true that the vast majority of those who celebrate Halloween would claim to reject Satanic practices, we should, nevertheless, be aware that historically this holiday has close connections with the occult. Therefore, celebrating Halloween can serve as a door leading to spiritism, especially for impressionable youths. Pagan rites and traditions tainted by spiritism simply have no place in Christian worship; they are far from harmless. (Also see: Dabbling in the Occult—What's the Harm? and What You Should Know About Witchcraft from the WBTS.)
Halloween - Based on Unscriptural Beliefs
Finally, Halloween, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day are all based on the beliefs that the dead suffer or that they can somehow bring harm to the living. However, the Bible clearly shows that such beliefs are not true, saying: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) For that reason, the Bible counsels: “All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [the common grave of mankind], the place to which you are going.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10) Since the dead are unconscious and thus incapable of harming others or suffering themselves, we have nothing to fear from them. At the same time, prayers to help them are of no use whatsoever. But this does not mean that there is no hope for our dead loved ones because the Bible assures us that “there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Acts 24:15) (Also see: The Bible's Viewpoint - What Happens at Death? from the WBTS.)
Why Jehovah's Witnesses Do Not Celebrate Halloween
Clearly, God does not approve of any ceremonies or customs that have any pagan associations. The Bible also warns us about the practice of spiritism - of which Halloween historically has close connections with. And finally, Halloween is based on beliefs that run completely contrary to what the Bible teaches.

"Reasons Why Jehovah's Witnesses Do Not Celebrate Halloween" cut & paste
Those aren't "reasons", (that is, based upon logical premises); instead, they are a laundry list of self-righteous, pretentious and narrowly-faith-based specious religious beliefs which don't even have a passing aquaintance with rational thought processes. They do however, emphasize the inherent intolerance of a xtian cult for any other religious belief. It's no wonder that cult is banned in several countries already.
-
Well if Jesus 's words are are to be fulfilled then this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations......So banning us will not stop it ...(Acts 5:27-32) . . .So they brought them and stood them in the San′he‧drin hall. And the high priest questioned them 28 and said: “We positively ordered YOU not to keep teaching upon the basis of this name, and yet, look! YOU have filled Jerusalem with YOUR teaching, and YOU are determined to bring the blood of this man upon us.” 29 In answer Peter and the [other] apostles said: “We must obey God as ruler rather than men. 30 The God of our forefathers raised up Jesus, whom YOU slew, hanging him upon a stake. 31 God exalted this one as Chief Agent and Savior to his right hand, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses of these matters, and so is the holy spirit, which God has given to those obeying him as ruler.”
-
Such banning is intended as a prophylactic, (preventive measure). Stopping the spread of a brain washing cult usually requires firmer measures.

It's already been stated that holidays such as Christmas, New Years, Easter, and May Day were based on pagan holidays. If you don't have a problem celebrating those, then why have a problem with Halloween? Let your kid celebrate.

War....i didnt make the rules

A valid point, (unless you're a religious fundamentalist).
-
I hate all holidays to be honest. They have all become very commercialized!! I just try to make all holidays special for the kids and try to bring out the good in them any way that I can. If it wasn't for the kids I wouldn't celebrate any holiday!! (even Christmas) As for Halloween.... it is just about the costumes and the candy. I never look forward to it that's for sure! It's just another day to me.
-
Everyone needs to lighten up and stop taking life so seriously! Let your children dress up for Halloween, enjoy life and find any reason in the world to celebrate. People quoting the bible on this subject...seriously? Just as statisticians can twist results in any direction so are the interpreters of the bible. Anyone can disseminate the roots of every celebrated Holiday and make it into something awful...why waste the time? Do people not have more important things to do with their lives? Imposing this wretched research related to the roots of a holiday is a tragedy.
-
Tresbn....i am not sure if you are a parent....but im sure if you had a child that went trick or treating and got poisoned youd sing a different tune about halloween.
Try reading Rev 4:11 in the bible and get a viewpoint when the Creator gives us His rules why we should obey Him.Isnt the state of the world enuff indigation that its screwed up because of its alienation from our creator?
At the same time God created us with freewill and forces no one to obey him....He just tells us whats right for our own good and lives.
And Jehovah exacts EXCLUSIVE devotion about being the TRUE God.There are NO other gods before Him.So if taking part in a relgeous activity that started in Babylon where false religeon started we are disobeying Him.And all you have to do is follow history in bible when man dis-obeyed.They reaped what they sowed and were punished for it.

Case & point
Halloween Deaths: Satanic Ritual Murders
or Natural Causes?
By Robert Howard
This is one of the most important dates on the Satanic calendar.
THE CELEBRATION OF DEATH
According to the Satanic Calendar Halloween, October 31st is a night for Human sacrifice. (31 All hallow's Eve (Halloween): One of the two most important nights of the year. Attempts are made to break the bond which is keeping the doors to the underworld closed. Blood and sexual rituals. Sexual association with demons. Animal and human sacrifice - male or female.)
-
Christians never practice what they preach. As far as I know they have always celebrated halloween. I know they did at all of the church " I WENT TO " and the churches that I know of.
-
Mard....just because one calls themselves xtian in this world does that mean in Gods eyes they are?
Im tired saying this...so many religeous sects claim they teach bible but dont. Most support politics rather then Gods word.So of course they will do whatever they want.
Think about this, how would you feel if you were Creator and saw so many different types of worship? Its man deciding how you are being served.
Sorry,Bible is very clear how God wants to be obeyed and served and this world serves another god.And Jesus referred to him as satan. In turn he is in power of all the political and religeous stuff thats going on.
We are all free to decide whos side we are on.And faith without works is dead says bible.
-
I'm a CHRISTIAN and I choose to not celebrate Halloween. DO your research on the holiday. Don't just not celebrate Halloween because of what you've been told. It truly is a satanic holiday. Research Easter, and Christmas as well. Its just all a way for society to generate money. Waste of time for me. My church offers alternatives for the kids, and I happily choose to get candy for the kids from the church without having to dress them up as witches and monsters.
-
Nice post Kim.
The JWs dont say you cant have a party and dress up and eat goodies....they just respect how God feels about certain practices and false religeon and its plain to see that halloween and many other holidays originated in Babylon where false religeon reined aplenty.
Its almost like drinking..drinking isnt condemned..getting drunk is.The bible says wine can make your heart rejoice and is good for your stomach....but too much of it can be the bite of a serpent.
When i was younger i was blind to a lot of this stuff. When i learned truth i examined it and see that much of it is really wrong in Gods eyes....and the bible is the rule book.
-
Its demonic
Do you even know what Halloween is actually about?
-
Raven....duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......i think i posted a few things bout it!!!Do you read other posts?
-
Just a few things RE other holidays.
I think its safe to say most of us appreciate receiving a gift from the heart then one giving us one because they felt they had to <birthdays & xmas>
Also Re birthdays and them NOT sitting well in Gods eyes. They draw attn to us and the bible tells us to represent Jesus in humility. And also remember John the Baptists head was given as a birthday gift too.
-
A survey will show you that Halloween is often the favorite holida for kids. I don't think it's because of the dark side - it's because of the fun in dressing up and the candy. (which some think is demonic :-) I never allowed any frightening decorations in our house and we concentrated on the fun. There are many churches and organizations that do have fall parties now days. I think they are great! ;)
-
If you can falsely assert that "all hallows eve" is a "satanic holiday", then any "research" you claimed to have done is dubious.
I'm a CHRISTIAN and I choose to not celebrate Halloween. DO your research on the holiday. Don't just not celebrate Halloween because of what you've been told. It truly is a satanic holiday.
-
I think it is ok to celebrate Halloween. Make it what you want it to be. To me it is a chance for the kids to dress like their favorite super hero or princess and laugh with their friends. The candy is a great bonus too. Keep a positive heart about it and have some fun!!
-
It's just a fun holiday, try to lay back and enjoy it. Forget about the devil and all of that crap. It's all just in fun.
-
It's just a fun holiday, try to lay back and enjoy it. Forget about the devil and all of that crap. It's all just in fun.
I apply your advice to "xmas" and forget about faux 'g-ds' "and all that crap" too. It's winter solstice, near December 21st and that has nothing whatsoever to do with latter cultural thefts by plagiarizing xtians.
-
I don't see the problem with letting your 6 year old dress like The Little Mermaid and eat candy for a day.It reminds me of how someone was saying the Care Bears were evil some time ago. Some people look a little too much into something, sometimes.
I don't think things people did in their superstitions a couple hundred years ago refelect the way the day is spent nowadays.Actually, people who fear things like that, only serve to strengthen the convictions of athiests that brand us as "superstitious".
My advice is to do what your conscience dictates on this issue. If you feel its wrong, don't do it.That goes with the principle taught in Romans 14 "I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean."
-
On the contrary, the same religious superstitions of judeo-xtians hundreds of years ago are reflected in the ignorantly superstitious beliefs they hold today. This is evident by some xtian posts declaring "halloween" to be a "satanic holiday", (a false accusation reflecting prior and current ignorance).

;D Well, I am a christian and have been for a long time - we let our children who are now grown dress up (nothing demonic or evil looking) and we let them trick-or-treat for candy. Last year I was going to send a friend's grandchildren halloween cards and candy in the mail and I asked her if her children celebrated Halloween. She said no we don't celebrate it but we do observe it. Now may sound like a play on words but it made sense to me and I agree with you - its a dressing up and candy day. If you are a christian and you aren't out there celebrating satan, demons, ghosts whatever it doesn't hurt children to have some fun. That is my feeling on it. :dontknow:
-

If you're a xtian and implying that "all hallows eve", (the diluted revision of what's now known as "halloween"), is 'satanic' in any way, but allow your children to beg for candy in "observation" of a pagan celebration, you're a hypocrite.
