To save water, instead of filling the sink, I keep my fish soap in a hand soap dispenser because if I use it while it's in the big bottle it gets everywhere and messy and I waste some - so anyway, I squirt a squirt on whatever I'm washing first (the sink is closed so it won't drain the water) and I wash that one dish and rinse it off above the other dishes with hot water - I do this with the next dish and the next dish until the sink is full - after it's full, I don't use anymore soap and I rinse the dishes off in the other half of the sink with cold water.

to save water we just throw the dishes away I caught myself doing this on accident...it was all bad...lol
-
It can be worth it to buy name brand dish soap like dawn i bought a huge bottle of a off brand for 99cent but i realized i had to squirt the dishes especially the greasy ones 2-3 times so i'll get the good stuff with a cpn next time.

Throw the dishes away...and use paper ones. If you really have to do some pots-and-pans and dishes, buy a plastic storage shoe box, then pour some dish soap and then add warm water...throw all the items in there. Come back in ten minutes, sponge them and rinse them.

I never really think about how I do dishes that much, just get them done quickly, so that I can get onto something more fun.
-
dishwasher all the way i dont think its very frugal which most time i do try to be but after working and cleaning and everything else it is the one luxury i can still giveto myself
-
When necessary I use a small squirt of foamy Dawn soap to help clean before they go into the dishwasher.
-
I do that too lol. ;D

I have a dishwasher but at times its great to save water. I will fill my dish tub with water, wash all my dishes place on one side of sink and once I am done i rinse them off all at once.
-
I start with a small amount of dish water and then as i wash the light stuff first and rinse and as i get to the bigger and heaver dishes i have more water and suds to finish. Washing dishes is one of my get aways. I don't mind doing them by hand as long as i have hot water and soap.

I hear/read you washing dishes was my first job, started in high school!
-
i dont skimp when it comes to my dishes i gotta know there clean. I use my dish washer. i dont ever hand wash anything unless it goes in the dishwasher later or its not dishwasher safe

You can wash your dishes at home and have them safe if you understand the process. To be done properly you have to wash, rinse and then sanitize them (some bleach can be used for that). Most home dish washers (dish washing machines) don't do the job. Unless your dish washer has a hot enough air drying blower in it and only if it goes through the full cycle will it sanitize. They really do not sanitize like people think they do. The commercial ones are much different (they have to bring the water to a very high temperature or use those sanitizing products, most do both) and can handle the products that sanitize. But there the people (workers) have to have clean hands as well.

I give a quick clean of all the dishes and then start cleaning them with the dish detergent soap and put them in another pile. When I run out of room then I start washing the soap off and repeat. If I really felt worried about saving water I will just cut this from other things. Of course I actually hardly hit my quota, so I'm doing usually fine on my water usage.

I use my dishwasher everyday. I like to get my dishes clean. and the dishwasher sanitizes them. I never use cold water to rinse or wash.
Nothing really gets clean in cold water.
-
We used to use our dishwasher, before it broke. Now we're doing them by hand. I'm sure it saves some water, but I never really gave it much thought.
-
I don't have a dishwasher. So, I hand wash, I try to be careful about using tons of water but I would not use cold water to rinse my dishes always hot.
-
I use styrofoam plates, dishes done
-
Dishwasher all the way. I give most things a pre-wash/rinse by hand to remove anything that's sticking. My last dishwasher sucked, but this one is pretty good.
-
Mindless scrubbing with soap and water does the trick for me. Man do I hate doing dishes. Thanks fir reminding me.
-
Now that I am unemployed I wash all my dishes by hand. I do use hot water and I allow them to air dry for almost a day. I do think the key in ensuring the dishes are clean when washing by hand is to squeeze the sponge well and let it air dry with the spongy side up. I have a dishwasher, and it has the sanitize feature, but I think all things done by hand are actually more effective.

Great topic!! I myself use the great dawn dish soap, some warm water, and my Mr. Clean wash sponge and wash away all the icky film off every dish before I even put my dish's into the dish washer. I enjoy the bubble's and aroma scent of the dish soap lol... :notworthy: I guess i'm wierd and possibly a little OCD but that's okay it reminds me that I have dish's to attend too! Thankyou

Get a dishwasher and stuff as much as you can in it. only wash your pots and pans in your sink. saves lots of time and water all at once
-
I use paper plate's time to time, I can save some water! Mostly wash dishes by hand, and don't fill the sinks with water!
-
See, sometimes I want to use paper plates but I am trying to dig my way out of debt and save every penny I can...let me tell you, when I am out of debt I have LOTS of things that I've been wanting that will save me time - seems like I'm always short on time >:(

It seems to me that what you are rinsing onto the other dishes is dirty water! I am a clean dish freak, though. I use a dishwasher now and only put dishes in after there is no food, residue or greasiness. When I didnt have one, I would pre-clean dishes with my "dirty" sponge (the sponge I allow to touch dishes that have food). I then cleaned the dishes with a clean sponge (it never touches anything but pre-washed dishes), soap on the sponge and running water. When my "clean" sponge starts to get a little old, I use it as my dirty sponge and throw the other one away. They are like a dollar for a pack of 4! It won't break the bank. I don't like to get anything clean in anything that's not purely clean! I can't stand dishes that still seem greasy or dirty at all.

I do my nails everyday, so i also always do dishes BEFORE i do my nails for the day
-
I always rinse my dishes off very well in the sink with hot water and than I wash them in my dishwasher :)
-
I just use a dishwasher, Saves Alot of time
-
Dishwasher. Don't remember where, but I read the dishwasher actually uses less water than washing by hand.
-
I don't have a dishwasher.
-
Doing dishes is long and tiring because no one in my house does them but me and I do them three times a day.
-
depending on how fast I want them done I just run water and wash and rinse at the same time. If I am going to deep clean the entire kitchen then I fill the sink while doing that and when the dishes are done I hand scrub walls, appliances and floor with that water. Changing it if needed.

I do the same things :) Also if I have any baked on dishes I can just stick them in right at the end to soak after all the other stuff is clean.
-
I don't have a dish washer either. What I do is get the stuck on stuff off my dishes first. Then get my sink full of hot soapy water on one side throw the dishes in and wash them and just run the water off and on to rinse them. It was so hard while I was in Texas because at my mother in law's house her sinks had to be plunged. I thought I had it harder. I don't really like dish washers though. It just seems like they don't get as clean as they do when you wash them by hand.
-
i dont have a dishwasher and i dont use paper plkates. i try and wash the plates right5 away since i live by myself instead ofr waiting till i have enought o wash in the sink
-
Lol this is a funny topic!! Thats a good way to save water!! I do something similar but I do not fill up the sink with water.
-
I really hate washing dishes & yes I'd use the throw away stuff before washing. The FC member stating get a large plastic shoe storage box & fill it w/soap wait 10mins & soap & rinse;it sound kind of fun.
I was also thinking one time when it was all piled high to taking those damned dishes & putting them in the cothes washing machine but chickened out!LOL! ;D
