Title: hurricane sandy
Post by: jcalexis on October 29, 2012, 03:59:57 pm
When I woke up this morning, it was almost dark outside. The streets were almost empty. However, when I got to the supermarket, it was packed with shoppers. The parking lot was packed with cars. People were coming in and out of the supermarket. I didn't stay. I left the place hoping I would find a less crowded place which I did. I was fortunate. I did my food shopping and got back home.

I pray for the people in the path of this dangerous storm.

Such 'magical intercessory rituals' have no evidence whatsoever of having any effect whatsoever on storms, so basically they offer nothing of substance.

we are in WV, and not getting hit hard....at least not yet anyway....but some towns very near us are already having power outtages....so, I am not taking any chances of being without power and not get to cash out day after tomorrow....especially after being without electric for a week last July....and we live in an area that hasn't lost power for more than an hour or two in years and years...then it was just for a day or so.  SO, I am not risking it...I am cashing out now.
Stay safe everyone.

I've seen the news and images about the devastation and loss hurricanes can cause, but I've never experienced it first hand. I feel somewhat fortunate to live on the west coast, because we rarely (more like never) experience hurricanes. I was reading that we in the west coast will more than likely never be visited by a weather event like this in our lifetimes, due to water temperatures, but that doesn't mean we can't be concerned about friends, family and fellow human beings. To all of those who live and are affected by Sandy, be safe and try to stay out of harms way.

my in-laws in maryland said it was pretty intense.  Many still don't have power yet but not too much damage at least.

We are so thankful. We just lost power over night( it came back on at 3:00 am) Lots of wind and debris everywhere. The road outside of our neighborhood has lots of telephone poles and power lines down.

I feel for those who are not as fortunate especially those at the jersey shore.

Stay safe, hopefully everything goes well in your area, i know that there is a lot of damage, and flooding in my area, all I can do is wish that everyone stays safe.

Mom2taz - Barbour County here. I was right in the middle of replying to you on Tuesday morning, when our power went out. I've been thinking about you and wondering if you guys were OK!

Did you stay up, or were you effected by the Tuesday AM falling tress like we were?

Our power just came back last night at 9:30, but there are big parts of the county that could be without power until Tuesday, I'm hearing. I'm pretty upset for those people. I'm hoping that now that the power's back on they'll set up a shelter in town, so later this morning I'll see if there's any place I can volunteer to help.

Having survived hurricanes before couldn't you be a little sympathic.  Those of us that live in NY and NJ  are a little shell shocked. There are some people that lost everything and  it is starting to get cold here . Please just hope that your follow fusion cashers are safe.

The fact that this area doesn't get hit with huge storms that often means these people where less prepared and it also means there can be more damage (even with a relatively weak storm like Sandy.) I hope everyone prepared enough food and water and that you are prepared financially to recover from this storm.

I find it interesting how a storm can be considered a big deal in some parts of the country and it wouldn't be a big deal in other parts.  I realize there are reasons as to why it is this way, but I still find it interesting.  Either way, stay safe you guys.

I am amazed that some people who have been through bad hurricanes can be so cavalier about what the people in the northeast are going through.  You think they would have the most empathy.  When you are in the middle of something like this, you don't yet have the entire picture yet, you just know YOU NEED HELP.   It is basically still ongoing, it was not just New York and New Jersey that were affected, up into Canada out towards Chicago down to the Carolinas, and they have a new Noreaster headed towards that area now.      They need basic things NOW.
Water and Power, food, just to be able to get warm, clothes.  Many have been told it will be days or maybe weeks before they have power.  Instead of making comments about how whiney they are we should be helping them to get back on their feet.  They are fellow Americans and are hurting right now.
