It all depends on the person. There are a lot of people out there that sleep better with a fan. Studies have shown that fans help people sleep in several ways. First, they keep you cool during the night so you don't get night sweats and wake up miserable. Second, the stimulation from air blowing across the face causes your mind to turn OFF (to a degree) outside stimulation which helps you stay asleep. Third, fans can mask a lot of the small noises that cause you to wake up during the night.

Yeah! I like sleeping with the fan on! Mostly to stay cool!
-
fans are really helpful to mask noises i sleep better with one on but i also live on a busy street
-
I sleep with the fan on year round to help with hot flashes.
-
My wife hates it, but I sleep with a fan on all year around. Have been doing for lots of years.
-
I always sleep with the fan on, it helps me fall asleep. I sleep with the fan on high, underneath the blanket with my head sticking out. :sad1:
-
I sleep with the fan on and sleep well.
-
Yes I also sleep with a fan going on low or medium speed even in winter the sound puts me to sleep. If I lose power I use a power pack.
-
I can't stand the fan on all night. Of course, my hubby loves it. :dontknow:
-
Thank you, that was new and interesting information. I have always seemed to be just fine with the window open, but that is something new to think about.
-
Are we talking about a ceiling fan or a fan that you set on a dresser and point towards you?
I like the ceiling fan on in the summer. Usually have it off in the winter.
-
I like to sleep in a cold room so I leave the ceiling fan on year around.

I only am able to sleep 3-4 hours at a time. Even in the summer I do much having the TV on when I feel asleep then a fan. I don't like the blowing air or the noise from thefan. It will also wake me up a couple hours later.
The tv I can set to shut off in an hour or so and that works for me. :peace:

My husband loves to sleep with the fan on. Me not soo much lol ! He says I go into "glowworm mode" with it on hahaha !
-
I'm one of those wives that hates sleeping with a fan on too. My husband goes as far as having a window air conditioner and a fan at times in the dead of winter. I chill so easily 1/2 the time I go to bed in layers with sweatpants and hoodies on with extra blankets on my side. Last night I actually slept with my socks and house shoes on under the covers. Hasn't even snowed yet this year - I'm doomed.
-
Oh yes it is something about that fan blowing. I like to sleep under a blanket while the fan is on mostly for the soothing sound that it makes. It makes for a very restful night.
-
Whenever I used to work 3rd shift I got into the habit of sleeping with a fan on to drown out any noise! Well I am not longer working 3rd but I still have the fan running! Luckily my husband worked the same crazy shifts as I did, so he likes the fan too!
-
I do like sleeping with the fan on but not year round. my fan is however next to my side of the bed if i should get hot all the time. usually my husband complains when i put it on during the winter that it is to cold, so i will usually sleep in a pair of shorts and tank, on top of the blanket. that way if i do get cold and my lab is not sleeping pressed against me i can get up under them. Angel may start out on the bed with us but doesn't always stay because when my husband rolls toward me she looses her spot. :dog:
-
My husband has to sleep with the fan on. He even takes a small one with us on vacation! He also has to have the window open.
I bought him a "white noise " machine for christmas. During Sandy, We had to shut the window and use the "sound machine" when
we lost power. Now we have power and he is back to the fan. Ugh!! :BangHead: :BangHead:
-
I have to sleep with a fan. Or something that humms. During the summer I use a fan. During the winter a humidifier.
-
I like to sleep with the fan on for the noise and circulation of air but I can't have it blowing on me. I have to point it in a different direction.
-
I sleep with the ceiling fan on and even though I live in Minnesota I still will open the window a crack just for fresh air in the winter. :peace:
-
My husband likes a fan. I never used to until I got old and hormones or lack thereof kicked in but now it's nice.
-
i dont like sleeping with the fan on but my husband does :cat:
-
I usually sleep with the fan on just for the air circulation - keeps the room from getting too stuffy. I usually keep it on the lowest setting, but during the summer I use the medium setting to keep me cooler.
-
I am a severe insomnia and I sleep with a noisy box fan going. It helps to mask noises because I am a very light sleeper. If a noise wakes me up, I might not go back to sleep the rest of the night. The noise from the box fan actually helps lull me to sleep. :dontknow: My apartment is also a warm apartment. It can be very warm even as the night cools off. The box fan cools me and helps make my sleep more comfortable. The slightest discomfort can trigger my insomnia.

I like sleeping with the fan on at night but it always gives me the sniffle in th morning.
-
A fan at night is a must in my house! It does cut down on a lot of the little noises that you would hear without one. I can't fall asleep if mine isn't on, it is way too quiet and distracting without it humming to me. :)
-
I always sleep with the fan on, like the sound it helps put me sleep.
-
This time of year? It's cold now so no way would I sleep with a fan. I have a ceiling fan and even in the summer I hardly turn it on because I love heat. I can't sleep with any kind of air circulating it makes me sick.
-
I sleep with the fan on every night.
-
I always sleep with the fan on, unless it's too chilly. I keep a fan on me during the day, too. With my asthma, the fan is a great help for keeping a flow in the air.
-
I spent some time in South Korea. The people I worked with there were just shocked and very concerned that I slept with fan on. There were a series of deaths, that were attributed to the fan being on, while people slept. Most notably was a group of kindergartners on their first overnight camping experience. These "fan death" people were basically in a small room with no a/c and had turned on the fan to keep cool. The fan somehow (I haven't figure this part out yet.) suck all the oxygen out of the room suffocating the people who were sleeping there.
I sleep with fan for two reasons. 1) To keep cool 2)To help suppress the tinnitus in my right ear as the noise from the fan helps that.
-
I can sleep with a fan on...but if it's hitting me directly I will usually get sick and catch a cold.
-
I can't sleep without a fan.
-
No matter what time of year, i must have the fan on. I cannot have total silence. I have tinnitus and hearing the noise my ears make, drives me nuts. Need a fan to drown it out.
-
LOL my husband has to have a fan on even in the winter. Says he can't sleep without it. So I wear flannals and tshirts to bed. Easy compromise.
-
I sleep with my air conditioning on because I can't stand being hot but I can't sleep without a comforter, haha. I can't sleep with the fan because I HATE the feeling of air blowing on me (I guess that rules out ever riding in a convertible :-[ ).
-
I sleep with the fan on but u gave a lot of good facts that I didn't know about thanks
-
I almost always sleep with a fan on. Usually it's just my ceiling fan (it makes a little noise depending on the setting). I have another fan that's a combination heater that I'll use during winter if my room gets too cold. It makes some noise that's a bit louder than I'd like (which it didn't make until maybe a year after I got it) but one summer I would turn it on the fan every night and I got so used to the noise that if I tried to sleep without turning it on I just couldn't. I also used it because it would help block other noise in the house that would wake me up. I don't use it much anymore, but probably will when it starts getting really cold.
-
i sleep with a fan on year round
-
I love sleeping with the fan on if it is hot and humid. I cannot sleep if it is too hot and especially if it is humid.
-
There is no fan in my bedroom. I have my bedroom window open so no need for a fan. It’s already cool enough. I never experience those problems at night you described. As for the summer heat at night, it’s nice to have a fan in the room.
-
I sleep with whatever makes my hubby happy, which means that sometimes I sleep with socks and a sweat suit in the fall and winter, and much less clothing in Summer.
-
I have a clip-on fan on my headboard. I use it occasionally, even in winter.
-
I dont mind sleeping with the ceiling fan on because its not blowing right on me but i cant sleeep with a regular fan on i cant stand not being able to hear to noises around me
-
Someone got me in the habit of sleeping with the fan on, then I used it to drown out noises for about 20 years. I finally broke the habit when I moved to an extremely quiet neighborhood and if the fan made a squeak, it would wake me up.
-
The fan does not bother me at all, whether I'm awake watching TV or in the PC or sleeping, day or night. If it is warm enough to turn it on, I'll turn it on. Furthermore, the sound of the fan kinda rocks me when I'm about to go to sleep, because somehow, someway it blocks the outside noise and blends in with the background noise, such as TV. The TV is a different story, I don't sleep with the TV on, but I sure set a timer of 30 minutes on the TV, so I'm falling asleep while the TV is on, but the TV turns itself off when I finally fall asleep.
-
I dont like sleeping with the fan on...usually just have the windows open. But if it's gets too hot, then we'll turn the fan on...mainly for my hubby.
-
I like it nice and quiet at night when I sleep but my daughter likes to have a fan running at night. My daughter in law likes to keep the TV on at night. That would worry me so I could not sleep, but to each his own. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend and may God bless each of you and keep you safe.
-
IT VARIES WITH MY FAMILY BUT WE MOSTLY SLEEP WITH THE FAN ON AT NIGHTS TO ROTATE THE COOL AIR. IF FEELS GOOD SLEEPING UNDER THE FAN.
-
I have been sleeping with a fan on now for several years, I cant hardly stand to sleep without it now. When my last one went out I couldn't wait to get another one, so now I keep an extra one on hand!!
-
I generally have a lot of trouble falling asleep without a fan on. Of course that changes a bit this time of year when it gets a little colder.
-
I have to sleep with a fan on. I have to have some kind of noise.
-
Since I don't use air conditioning (it is only here for guest), I only use the fan in the hottest of summer days. Never even consider if it would bother me to sleep with it on.
-
We often have the fan on. As others have said, it helps with the hot flashes, and I like the white noise.
-
I love sleeping with a fan too. Even on cold days I turn it on and put on blankets.
-
If I sleep with the fan on I can't have it blowing directly on my neck or else I will wake up with a stiff neck.
-
I love to sleep with the fan on... The old phrase "Silence is Golden" is true sometimes, but not when I'm sleeping. The "white noise" effect from my fan definitely makes for a better night's sleep...
-
I away sleep with my air purifier on or AC in the summer.
-
I sometimes sleep with the fan on but, I have allergy's i sometimes wake up the next morning with a scratchy throat or itchy eyes.
-
A fan starts to drive me crazy after only a few minutes. Yet my daughter keeps hers on all night long. Even the sound of it down the hall bothers me, lol. My b/f growing up had a huge attic fan in their home. At night her mom would pull down the door and hit the switch. It was so loud but it lulled us to sleep and kept us cool all night!
