Title: How to read Bar Codes .... interesting!
Post by: ankie4t on November 08, 2012, 09:47:50 am: FYI This may be useful to know when grocery shopping, if it's a concern to you.

- remember if the first 3 digits are:

690-692 ... then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 - 09 ... USA & CANADA
30 - 37 FRANCE
40 - 44 GERMANY
471 ... Taiwan
49 ... JAPAN
50 ... UK

Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located.

It is important to read the bar code to track its origin.

I am a member of NCPonline's scanning panel and I so often just simply scan products I buy and put them away, of course. Now, I want to start paying attention to this little tidbit just out of curiosity. That is really interesting.

Alot of what you get from china is noth ing but junk also with some of the other countries. I like to go to flea markets and you would be surprised at all the knockoffs that are sold in some of the places.

Thanks for the information, I read those codes all the time. Now I have a better idea of what the first three stand for.
