Title: real or artificial?
Post by: reiddb on November 27, 2012, 12:06:13 pm
I have always had a real tree and the going out to get it, the smell of the needles being sucked up, everything makes it perfect for me!! What's your preference?

This year we got a real one, but if it were up to me, I'd always get artificial.  I can understand why people like the real ones, though.

Artificial - had it for years - yes, it's getting somewhat old, but it's nice to have consistency and not have to buy a new one each year

We always get a real one. I love the smell of pine. It is part of our holiday tradition! It wouldn't seem like Christmas without the smell.

We've always used artificial trees, but someday I'd like a real one.

We have used both.  I like a real one but make a mess with all the needles when taking them down at end of season.  Really doesn't matter to me.

Artificial. I've never had a real tree in my life. It seems so messy and also problematic with pets (wouldn't they eat the needles?). Plus, the tree we've had the past couple years is pre-lit with regular white christmas lights... making life 8,000 times more easier!

I love a real tree, but I became allergic to them a few years back.  The older I get, the easier I want the whole thing to be.  I like pre-lit trees because they are easy to decorate.  This year I saw half trees advertised, so I decided to order one.  It is nice for people with small living spaces.  It came today, and I like it so far.  We have enough room for a bigger tree, but this gets the tree out of the middle of the floor.

Growing up we always used an artificial tree.  It was fun for us and we had no problems with it.  When I got married my husband set up a real tree a few times.  I was so scared it would dry out and catch fire or something. I kept refilling the water basin constantly.  The dried needles would fall off and I had to clean them up.  Artificial is just fine.

I used to get a real tree every year, but I got a real tree about 10 years ago for convienence and to keep costs down.  I miss the smell, but not the mess.   Now I just pick up several branches at the grocery store when they are putting them out  - and that is enough to give the house the christmas smell.

I like artificial trees because you can save them for the years to come. Seems like it saves more money plus the real trees make a mess and you have to have enough room for them. I can understand wanting a real one though too. They both have positives and negatives. Our tree is white and was twenty dollars.

It really does not matter which one you choose, it is what you can get at the time. I would choose both of them because with the real one you can smell the realness of the tree... and the artificial tree you can use it how many times you want. I never had a real tree, it was only artificial.

I have never had a real tree so I am not familiar with the scent...I have had fake trees green ones and white ones and love decorating them with my family.

Growing up Mom and Dad always had a fake tree.  It was bulky, awkward and a major pain for my father to dig out.  One year my Mom took off for Europe with a girlfriend of hers the day before Thanksgiving.  So Dad and I took it upon ourselves to through out 2 of her antique chairs that were up against the wall in the family room...one of her projects waiting to be reupholstered.  We went out to dinner for Thanksgiving, bought a real tree put it up and decorated it...it was awesome.  We were so proud of making this giant leap of decor.  3 days into Ma's trip she felt guilty for having left her family during the holidays and came home.  BOY was she HOT when she saw what we had done...the following years after we went back to the old fake tree.  Once on my own I bought my own tree.  It was purple (SO COOL) I put it up one year.  Than my husband and I met.  We used his white tree and when we moved out of the apartment we blended our families in we left the purple tree behind.  So this year- Real tree it is!

Neither, because our apartment kinda sucks. It's too small for a tree, but it would be nice!

artificial...they're usually cheaper and they last longer and can be stored..

Had an artificial white tree for two years now but i think it's time for a new one.

I like artificial Christmas trees a lot better because it is less of a mess. Real Christmas trees leave such a mess everywhere you put them. Also, you can reuse that tree over and over again unless it breaks somehow. Artificial trees also are easier to hang ornaments. I would find that my ornaments would fall off easier on a Christmas tree.

I have bought both over the past several years. I like the smell of the fresh cut tree, but never liked the mess. Of course, the artificial trees can be just as messy.

A real pine Christmas tree because they smell so fresh and woodsy is the best. I do like cut Christmas trees. I like to see them alive in the fields.

We always had a real tree when I was growing up, my dad would go in the woods and find one  (sometimes kind of scrawny) but we would decorate it and make it look wonderful!  We didn't dare cut down one of the blue spruce though!

I like artificial. We cheat by picking up a few branches from the local Christmas tree farm to put underneath. The smell fills up the entire house.

I like the real one but don't like to kill more trees for the sake of x-mas. So, I go for the realistic fake ones & spray pine scent on it. ;)

I guess I'm kinda like old Scrooge... no tree for the last few years.  Although, when I did put one up, it was artificial...

I love live trees, the smell throughout the house just put you in the Christmas mood and spirit.  I do have an artificial tree that I use occasionally.

I could generate pros and cons for each, but i think to be truly traditional it would have to be a real tree. I dont put up either, I just get out a small ceramic tree.

My family used real trees in the past and sometimes they do give a pleasant smell and the tree picking was fun. However, certain allergies of certain family members and guest we bring over has made us start using an artificial tree. I have no qualms and they're cheaper in the long run.

I love the smell of a real tree...I like fake because they are cleaner and I do believe safer...but I don't put up a tree for myself.

I haven't had a real tree in quite a few years but we have an artificial one and it serves the purpose to decorate and put presents under- one year we had one the sat on top of the coffee table about 3-4 feet high and it was just as good

I have two small Christmas trees. They're both artificials. I use them every year on Christmas. That way, I don't have to buy Christmas tree each year.

Neither one - I don't set up a Christmas tree, personally.  It's more a time of mourning those who are gone for me than anything else, these days.  But when we used to put one up, it was always artificial.
