All I can say is most people (sadly) think they need to follow the movie stars and pick out of the left names for their children. My question is, how do they think the kids are gonna feel when they start going to school and others start ridiculing them for their "strange" names. Parents need to think about those things before they choose weird names for their kids.

I have no idea, but I have noticed that MOST (not all) parents with common or popular names are the ones most likely to name their kids "weird" names. Parents with uncommon names don't do that, they know how it feels having to repeat or spell your name always

I know. My stupid (sorry) sister says she was drinking Jack Daniels when she got pregnant, so now my niece is Jaclyn Danielle. I told her that's nice for her to live with.

I think that some adults name their kids weird names because they believe their children are unique. So what is more befitting a unique child than an unusual or weird name.

Many "weird" names have deep meanings behind them and the parents don't want to slap a generic name on their kid. My son's name is Lucian; it means "the guiding light". Your name is the title of your legacy. It shouldn't be boring.

But when it comes to names, is there really anything that really is normal?
I mean my name is Dorann and I do think that it is strange, but I really do like the fact that my parents took the names of two of my great-great-grandmothers to make the name that I bear today, Doris and Anne.
Now my children have what I thought were more "normal" names being that my daughter is Kathryn and my son is Paul, but you know there are more children that they go to school with that have unique names than classic names like they have.

Some of them names are out there. I would be embarassed. I cant even spell my grandaughters first name let alone pronounce it. I call her by her middle name. She loves me to death she gets mad when her mommy tries to take her away from me.

I like classic names. My name is from the Bible. Thats why it is spelled Rebekah and not Rebecca. Also, my middle name is Faye which is the name my grandmother went by and her middle name. My daughter Ruby Faye is named after her great aunt Ruby and the birth stone color of my Uncle Rodney who passed on from this life. She got the middle name Faye in honor of my grandmother and my middle name and because I told my grandmother I would name her that.

It's all about being unique, however some just take it way too far outside the box. I personally like unisex names and I like to use last names as first names. It may be weird to some but I think it's unique but not totally weird.

Eh, there's a big difference in unusual/unique and just plain stupid. I didn't want my kids to have names you hear everyday but not so out there that people couldn't spell or pronounce them. Their names are Raina, River and Romma :heart:

I ask my daughter will I ever be able to pick up something at Disney with my grandchllds name on it, and she says, NO! Why, I have no clue, she changed her name to Rose so what do I know about naming any chlld???

Some people don't know they're choosing a "weird" name when they name their children. Others might name their children based on numerology to help their children accomplish certain things in this lifetime.

I was a week late and a woman rushed a book to me and I found my daughters name in it. I had named her something different. Sometimes they chose their name. :thumbsup:

I don't understand this either. It's cruel to the child, especially when it's something ridiculously long and hard to spell for when they're first learning to speak and write.

I know a lady in Ghana that has a strange, but unique middle name. her middle name is Korkor

I named my daughter after her paternal and maternal grandmothers (her paternal mother's name was Rosa and my mother's middle name was Eliza, so I named her Rosa Elizabeth. She answers to Rose like her paternal grandmother). Her father wanted me to name her after his sister (her name was Julia) and I told him no. I told him I would name her after his mother. In the event of the middle name, every name I picked, he knew someone with the same name who was crazy, so I told him my mother's middle name and he said he would accept that. I tell you, some of the names I have heard I got the impression they must have had a good time in the old time tonight and the weird name is a representation of it. :) ;D

Different is ok but parents should think of their child before they give them a name and be sure they want their child to have to live with that name for life. I don't think some parents think of their child living with that name at school where other children are not always as kind as they should be.

Ya they should not give any fantasy name which they prefer. Kids are the ones who have to live with that name for the rest of their life. Kids may end up even hating their parents just because of a name. Parents should think and put sweet names for Kids.

I can relate to that I was wondering where do they get some of the names people come up with it was crazy years back but now I think they have calmed down some but I agree to you should think of the child cuz he or she is the one that has to grow up with the name and sometimes you can't even pronounce it let alone spell it lol

I wonder the same thing. It could be that parents want their child's name to be memorable and unique. My sister and brother in law took their time naming both my niece and nephew. I think some parents don't put enough time into choosing names for their children.

It's hard to say why they do this. In my opinion they probably do this so their kids will stand out amongst a crowd.

In high school there was a girl in my class name Tequila....So, yeeeaah...some parents are um, "special". :angry7:
