Potty training a puppie is much easier than trying to train an older dog. If you use a newspaper to make noise or smack them, they are not as likely to cower if you raise your hand. I always rub their nose in it and either give them a swat with a paper or hit the floor and make a loud noise with the paper. They are sometimes more afraid of the noise than the spanking. However, some dogs cannot be trained, no matter what you do. I will also add that it does not matter if they are a registered breed or a mut. If your dog does not respond to these methods, consult a professional, which I am not. :wave:BM :wave:

You have to watch them carefully and distract them with noise when you see they are attempting to "go in the house." I then lead them outside so they can "go." This takes time and patience, but in the long run has been effective for me.

You also have to make a big deal out of it when they DO go outside. Mine loves 'lil gimmes' - I get those at petland, and give him one only when he goes to the bathroom outside. He can have other treats indoors, but those are reserved only for training. My son calls them doggy crack.

my boyfriend can train a puppy within 2 weeks. every time they potty in the house he rubs their noses in it and scolds them and puts them outside. he also does not leave the food bowl down all day. put it down at breakfast, lunch and dinner, so they will get on a schedule. he is very good at this and has never failed

I think rubbing their noses in it is cruel and shameful. Feed them at scheduled times and don't leave the food out all day. As soon as they finish eating, give their GI tract time to work and take them outside and stay until they do their business. Then give them a reward.

You pretty much have to watch them like a hawk, distract them if they start to go in the house, and usher them quickly outside. Regular timely trips outside also help start to get your dog used a routine.

if you have to leave them then make sure they are in a secure place like a play yard and cover the floor with paper. I always feed mine and then give them about 29 minutes then take them outside and walk them until they do their business. and yes kibbles will always help
