I don't care for the traditional dry, mostly bread fruitcake but I do like the gourmet fruitcakes that are more dried fruit and nuts than bread.  They usually come in square shaped logs and you slice off servings.  I think Hickory Farms makes them.

Gross!! Let's take hard, dried up fruit and try to make it edible by sneaking it into a cake. No thanks.

:o No lol but everyone's answers were hilarious.  My grandma who has long since been passed away (don't think it was caused by a fruitcake but one never knows) liked fruitcake enough that she actually bought one every christmas and it was the old fashioned dry as a bone weirdo dried fruit fruitcake.  Personally I would opt for fudge or something else for a holiday treat and leave the fruitcake alone.  ;)

I love fruit cake, as someone said, not the kind with dried bread but the moist ones with fruit and nuts.  My father-in-law used to make the best.  Of course, he was a baker.

It's okay.  Not my favorite.  I don't like all the candied cherries and other fruit in it.  My grandmother use to make one that didn't have a lot of that in it and it was good.

can't say i've ever been a fan!
all the different tastes and textures just aren't appetizing.

they must be a very old christmas tradition, though.
my granny liked them, and i know a lot of elderly
people who do too.

I like fruit cake a lot.  I have never made one but when my Mother was living she made one each Christmas.  They were so good.  I buy one every now and then and they are good too.  Hope everyone has a good day and may God bless each of you and keep you safe.

We had a tradition in our family for years where a poor fruitcake would get wrapped and passed around. LOL. The icebox fruit cakes are good.

My grandmother made a wonderful fruit cake.  I haven't found anything to replace it but sure would like to.  Don't think I've had a decent one since the late 50's.

How does one eat those things?  Fruitcakes are simply awful.  Yet people continue to make them.

I think the fruit cake has to be done right. I love coffee cake. That should have been the tradition. :) yum.

My dad loved fruit cake, and we used to buy one every year at Christmas.  I would have an occasional slice, but the bulk of it he ate (eventuallY).  Once in awhile we would make a fruitcake from a Florida Fruit cake recipe that was more of a white cake with the cherries and nuts; it was less rich and sticky.  As for me--it isn't that I don't like fruitcake; it's just that there are a lot of sweeties I like better than fruitcake.

I prefer to make mine. The store bought is not what i call a good fruit cake. I use grannys recipe, But it is a chore getting the fruit ready for one. I don't make one very often but when i do everyone really likes it. I think it has to do with all the fruit soaked in brandy.

I've never been a big fan of fruit cake, but as a kid I enjoyed watching my grandmother and mother going through the process of making it and storing it in a white illow case for weeks. :icon_rr:

Hi,

I truly love fruit cakes and it is among the favorites of my "best tasting" deserts. I love the cake with a hot cup of coffee milk. When I a eating and drinking this, I feel, so, so, good inside  :)  :).
