I haven't worked out in a long time..
Should start working out for a week first and then start Insanity?
Or should i immediately go to Insanity? O.o
OH, and is it difficult on the back?

If you haven't worked out in a long time I would recommend something a little more subtle or slower. Unless you can build up a lot of motivation I don't think the tips through the Insanity workout program might necessarily fit for everyone. I get exhausted just seeing those infomercials.

Go slow then work your way up go on your own pace no need to go crazy. Pushing yourself to a utmost limit is some what bad for the body.

I have not personally done the Insanity workout, but from what I know of it, it's more of a muscle building/sculpting workout vs a weight loss workout. I hear the first month is not too bad, but the second month can be brutal. If you are looking to build muscle, and can be focused and disciplined - go for it. Just be prepared to adjust your eating, particularly in the second month, to increase your protein intake to keep up with the muscle building activities or you may not last.
If you are looking for more general toning/exercise and weight loss workouts - I'd recommend a combination of workouts along the route of the TaeBo workouts for cardio/strength (the half hour ones would be enough for a beginner), and combine it with something like Pilates or Yoga (I used the Winsor Pilates workouts before I started working with a Yoga trainer). The Pilates/Yoga will give your body time to recover, stretch and rest which is equally as important as the cardio and strength training that a TaeBo type workout will provide.
The most important thing is to get into the habit - if you don't "feel" like it one day, feel free to skip, but get right back the next day. Don't skip too many days in a row or you'll be starting over again trying to get into the habit.
The next thing to monitor is to be careful to change up your routine every few weeks. If you do the same workout over and over, your body will get used to it and the workout won't be as effective as it was initially. Then eventually your body will get "bored" with the routine. If you change up the routine every few weeks, then your body won't get used to it or bored and remain effective.
Good luck!

Everyone that I know that has tried Insanity hasn't lasted more than week, most only a couple days. It's not for everyone.

I have not heard of this type of workout. For Christmas I bought myself the Booty Slide set so I'm gonna try that and see how it goes. Good luck on your work out and I hope you reach your goal.

that work out is sick, i wouldn't start with that because it's a strain on the entire body.

I would start to build up to this type of workout. It's way to intense for starters. I haven't tried it but I've seen lots of videos. Good luck with the workout! :)

found a work out dvd worth 38$ used. we're gonna sell it. tried to sell brave but it's restricted on amazon. it's stupid. :dontknow:

I just started working out also. I started about a week ago, and I have been doing Zumba Fitness. My advice is to start off slow and then work your way to insanity. I also take energy nutrients to help me with my workout and it helps. You should visit this website www.inspireu916.com for more information.

Be careful doing the Insanity workout or any by the same group. Those workouts never consider the long term damage they do to peoples joints. You are young a will probable have little or few problems now. Many of these workouts don't consider biomechanics in there programs. Much as I like Billy Blanks even though he lied and said he was the Olympic champion; with little need to do so since is is an eight or nine time world champion, be careful with the Taebo workout as well. Mr Blanks mentions his problem obtaining flexibility. No wonder, he starts all his workouts off incorrectly. As far back as 1971 Ozolin, N. G. (Moscow) and others wrote about correct stretching programs. And now days with the information that was available and the fall of the Iron Curtain there is to much good information around on diet and fitness. Mr Blanks like many instructors of martial arts are not trained fitness teachers. Many of my teachers were not and one is a trained TMC (Traditional Chinese Medicine) doctor, which he learned in Korea from Chinese monks and a western MD and the other is a TMC trained in the USA. And they don't train correctly, which is easy to do with their background and the information available today.
Not saying don't us the information but seek out a personal trainer or fitness coach who can help you or correct the mishaps in those program. Do a little reading up on your own, since you have the internet. Good Luck!

I never completed it (school took up too much time) but you could always do what I did. I just did the first dvd one day for as long as I could and walked in place while trying to catch my breath. Then I took a few days off, and did the next video then. I may not get the results in 60 day, but I was trying. I found it overkill and decided to try something else and use that later once I was in better shape.
I don't know if you are a self-sufficient person or you sorta have to force yourself to exercise, but I sorta get bored and need a reason to do it. I started doing Dance Central, Just Dance, and other dancing games to get me motivated. Still hasn't completely kicked in due to all the holiday running around, but it something and it got me moving for the hour I do it. And I find myself doing it for way longer then I would ever go running or walking even since I try to get that perfect rating. Maybe try something like that (or Zumba even) as a lower intensity workout before cranking it up to insanity level.
I'd highly recommend the dancing games though if you need motivation. It's great if you know others who can join cause you can take turns and all get a workout at the same time without tiring yourselves out too quickly. Went to a friends house for girls night and we spent the 3 hours we were going to go drinking playing their Just Dance game instead.

Bet you are in better shape than you think. After two years of intramurals in junior high I dropped music went out for high school sports. Luckily for me a friend and classmate challenged me to pullup and dip contest. He showed me I was lacking in upper body strength. You can take a general fitness test like: Google "mayo clinic fitness test". Have fun! Good Luck!

I ay go for it but at your own pace and level at first modify. It's great to challenge and push yourself. You feel so good after. When you are able to work it out the way it's supposed to be with the right intensity go for it. I am interested in trying the challange myself.

Most of the people I know that do Insanity just jump right in. I haven't personally done it. Just watching the infomercial makes me so tired lol Good luck to you

Insanity isn't really the workout to start without after a long period of inactivity and it's not right for everyone. I certainly wouldn't suggest it, or anything involving a lot of pylometrics, to someone with back problems.

So very true or an older person ladavia89, plyometrics can do damage to other joints as well. Even if you see older people doing the workout in the ads. Not saying the workout from that company have no value. But there are better ways to achieve the results they do on certain demographic groups, lol, survey talk. ;D
