With the Hitchcock movie playing I was curious to the opinions of our panelists as to who is the better director? Alfred Hitchcock or Speilberg
-
I know Speilberg worked on E.T, Jaws, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park. What are some of Hitchcock's work?
-
It seems like this is comparing apples to oranges-- different generations, different genres, etc. Speilberg has access to (and used profusely) technology that Hitchcock probably never even dreamed of. They both were/are masters of their craft.
-
They're both good! But with the technology today, I give the edge to Speilberg.
-
I believe Hitchcock was the better director. During his time you didn't see films with his imagination!!Now you have a bunch trying to mimick each other.
-
Hitchcock was able to create scenes with the imaginative use of camera angles and lighting. This takes genus and talent. The films done by Speilberg are varied and have a liberal use of technology. Both are good for their generation.
-
Both are great directors.

I prefer speilberg i've seen most of his movies and enjoyed all of it. My favorite was Cat

Both are great directors for their time and their genre. However, if I had to pick one, I would pick Hitchcock. I think many of the directors that followed him learned a lot from him. If you don't know his movies, look them up. Many people still watch them today, and many people say that Psycho was the best scary movie ever made.
-
Hitchcock was great. I could watch his movies all day. His movies had subjects that really challenged the mind. Speilberg has created some very innovative films and is more of a genius that people of today can relate to. However, people from my generation can relate to both but in different ways.

I think it could be either one. Hitchcock was brilliant. I really like the movies Rear Window and The Birds. Both very old and they were in black and white, which was kinda cool now that I think about it. Speilberg is great too. The difference being is Speilberg has a lot more technology available and Hitchcock had to rely on his own wit. He had a special way of doing things. I once heard that he appeared in every one of his movies. Not that he a had an actual role, he would just show up in a shot. :peace:

Speilberg, only because i'm not familiar with Hitcock's movies! They seem to be wayyyy before my time! ;D I'm a huge fan of Speilberg and his work! I love his movies!

Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window (the first version), The Birds, North by Northwest. He also had a weekly series back in the '50's or early '60's that are currently being replayed on (satellite) TV. A recurring theme of the series seemed to be that his main characters were losers who experienced downward spirals from their poor decisions.
-
spielberg was better more types of movies produced.
-
I have all the respect in the world for Steven Spielberg. Honest. But I would have to give the edge to Hitchcock simply because I consider him to be more the trailblazer of the two. I would have to say that Spielberg probably learned a thing or three from Hitchcock's work.
-
this is a very interesting question, and really there is no right or wrong answer!! 2 different era's of film making!! all I can say is that I like both Hitchcock movies and Speilberg movies
-
speilberg
-
Hitchcock. He was brilliant at creating masterfully shot movies without the technology that sometimes boggles down a movie.
-
that is a hard choice cause I like movies from them both
-
Sorry I like both directors, they have different styles.
-
Hitchcock was a director with a macabre mystique about him. Spielberg is more sensitive than Hitchcock. I like Spielberg better than Hitchcock.
-
I think is the better director? Is Speilberg I like his movies.
-
Its hard to determine which one was/is a better director since they did different genres of movies. I like them both.
-
Hitchcock was an awful person, great director but sleazy character, so I vote for Spielberg.
