Title: typing
Post by: sgluckadoo on February 03, 2013, 02:17:54 pm
Do you bother typing correctly, correcting mistakes, using caps when appropriate, grammar, etc. when posting online (blogs, survey forums, social networking)? I sort of see it as an extension of texting and dont always. If it was a term paper i would definately approach it differently.

Sometimes I will copy and paste a post to my Micro-Sort Word.  Then I'll do a spell check and copy/paste it back to fusion.

I try to do it well, but sometimes I don't care. It all depends if I'm tired or have the time to do it well.  :star:

Yes, I try to correct any grammar mistakes when I am typing on the computer. I don't like when people misspell words and don't use proper punctuation. However, when I text on my phone, then I will use shortened words, like u, luv, 2day, etc.

For me it depends on the situation.  Like you said, if doing a term paper or college online, then it's a no-brainer.  But if your texting or in an informal chat room or blog, then it really doesn't matter.

I do try to type correctly, but there are some things I may do and not worry about using capital letters correctly.
Title: Re: typing
Post by: lbeery on February 04, 2013, 09:38:48 am
I try to use proper language and spelling whenever I write anything because I feel that it is really, really easy to lose your language skills if you don't use them.  My major problem has always been run on sentences. I once got a job and I think the only reason I was successful with the interviewer was that I was able to write a proper letter. It is a dying art though.

I am a very experienced typist and make as few mistakes as possible.  You can always use Spell Checker, but I don't know if there is a Spell Checker in this forum or on Fusion Cash period.  I have always been a great speller, and still am, with or without Spell Checker. :) ;D :D

I have been typing for many years. From old fashioned typewriters, Telex, IBM Selectric...and now, my favorite Internet keyboards. Yes! You can correct your spelling before printing or sending messages.

For the most part I try to use proper sentences when I post on forums, and mostly on text messages too.  I will use some common text expressions, such as, LOL, IMO, etc. those that are generally known acronyms.

I've read some posts that are so choppy with "text speak" that I need a cryptographer to interpret.
Title: Re: typing
Post by: LenoraMinogue on February 19, 2013, 09:50:01 am
I think it's okay to be less formal when typing online, but I try to pay attention to spelling and clarity still. If the text is too sloppy or uses too many acronyms it can really be annoying.
Title: Re: typing
Post by: yumers on February 19, 2013, 04:38:40 pm
I personally think it's just better to use correct/near-correct grammar and spelling anytime there's potential for a large number of people to see whatever you posted.  It's not like it takes that much more time to write out.
Title: Re: typing
Post by: stretch1967 on February 20, 2013, 10:31:08 am
It doesnt matter how it is stated. Grammar errors etc. It is how you get your point across. Some of the most mixed up things even come out better.
Title: Re: typing
Post by: minkatrozic on March 06, 2013, 04:44:34 pm
It would help if everybody would pay attention to their spelling. If this would be the case there would be some chance for those who still have to learn a lot. The way it is now we see the mistakes all the time and it seems that they are there to stay. :dontknow:

Post by: black1304 on March 08, 2013, 12:44:27 pm
I usually try to spell correctly, but I hate that now if I am not typing on my phone I automatically assume the computer is going to capitalize my Is and proper nouns. Or that a misspelled word is magically going to correct itself. It's funny how fast you can become lazy and used to something else doing the work for you.
Title: Re: typing

Yes, always. I think most people who leave their posts laden with errors must not have been paying attention in elementary school English class.
Title: Re: typing
Post by: devilroljin on March 08, 2013, 02:41:38 pm
It depends where and who am I writing to, but for the most part, I try to be the most grammatically correct I can be; granted it might not be correct all the time. Sometimes, persons who give a good effort to try and make good use of punctuation, grammar and such, may be perceived as pretentious, when in reality they are just trying to express themselves correctly. That is not to say that there aren't pretentious people trying to appear to be better than the rest, and there is where the confusion arises. Personally, I try to detect the tone of the writing, if it seems to me, the is some overly and unnecessary use of a patronizing or condescending tone, then it might just be somebody trying to belittle people, or just somebody with a false sense of grandiosity. Well, I think I'm going off topic a little bit here, but to summarize, in terms of typing (not texting), I almost always try to do it as properly as I can.

I always try to correct my spelling and spaces between words. Most of the time I reread before posting and make sure it makes before I hit the button. I believe that people will just think I am not too smart if I leave a bunch of spelling errors and write something that does not make sense, or leave words out that they have to decipher. I always try to do my best in everything, even if it takes a little more time.

When I am typing, I try to use correct  grammar, spelling and punctuation.  Without using correct English, when I type, it makes it slows down the reader and makes it difficult to understand what I have written.

It really does bug me when I read a post/thread with NO punctuation and misuse of grammar...[Not that mine is the best] I have told myself  "they are from another country"... Then-again in the short time I've been here (around 6 months), I have gotten to know some (if not most) of us are here in the Good-Ol-USA...
(http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa239/HappySmith52/Wierd.gif) It drives me crazy-coo-coo when I try to understand what the person is saying; Like "i thought i'd post on  here just so as to put youcan understand what is i'm saying"... Sure, We can understand this but (again dang-it) I need to read it 3 (sometimes 4) times to fully comprehend.
Sorry if this has put you to (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa239/HappySmith52/Desk.gif)

Well, I hope some of you do not take it personally, if you see misspelled words, or grammar errors. At least until you know where that particular person is coming from. Not all on this site has had the advantage of a proper education. Not all have even had typing lessons, and had to learn how to type on their own. Not all are born are raised here in the USA, but have coveted our freedom. Not all.  So, why get upset, just enjoy, love you guys at FusionCash, may tomorrow be profitable one step at a time.
