Title: living in the boonies
Post by: dansazz on February 03, 2013, 09:49:34 pm
living in the boonies really sucks. 4 miles out of town, and no vehicle. talk about a bad time.

Fortunately, I have the best of both worlds... I can drive in 1 direction and head to the country and small towns, but I live on in a small suburb so can go to the city in the other direction.

I live about 6 miles from town. I would not want to live any closer. In fact, I'd love to live farther away.

We're out in the boonies too. It has it's pros and cons. It's very beautiful out here, but I'm a city girl at heart. I hate having to drive 30-45 minutes to go to the grocery store, dry cleaners, etc.

I doubt I could ever live like that. I need to be in the city. I like the country to a point, but not on a full time basis.

I love living in the country. We live about 3 miles from a small town, and about 5 from another small town, so we really aren't in the boonies. I would not like to live in a remote area where the nearest town was 30+ miles away. That's how far the nearest small city is from us now. But I certainly wouldn't want to live any closer to a town or city.

Four miles from town is hardly what I would call the boonies lol! I used to live out in the country and was 23 miles from town. Compared to others who also lived in the country I was "close to town" lol!

I can see where it would be bad without a vehicle but you're very lucky to live during a time when you're not totally isolated.  I would think that it probably makes it pretty special when you do get to town  ;)

Yeah, that's not easy without some kind of transportation. Well, you can enjoy the quietness of living that far from town!

The not having a vehicle sucks cause it is so inconvenient, but living in the boonies beats living in the city by a long long way.  I worked in a huge city for thirty plus years (even though I lived in the county) and now live outside a very tiny town....just love it!

Boonies aren't so bad....as long as you do have a car.  So sorry to hear of your position! At least you have a home!

I've had close neighbors and I don't want them ever again if I can help it.  I don't like having to drive 20 miles to get to a Walmart etc. but I have a grocery and bank within 5 miles so that's not so bad,

I presently live close to town and there are parts to it I like but soon will live out in the boonies and I am looking forward to that in ways also so I guess there are positives and negatives to both.  I can understand the post where the person lives out and doesn't have a vehicle now that is tough.  I don't have one either but someone in the family does and they  will be in the household I am moving to.

I used to live in the boonies. 97-130 miles to drive too a decent grocery store. Depended on where i went. So once a month a long trip with 2 small children to buy groceries and see the drs. It was an all day event and usually not getting home until 7-9 pm. Was always beat. Not i live in a very small town and still have to drive 80-187 miles for a good  dr. and good shopping. The grocery store here is ok except cost a lot more then walmart or evensome of the larger stores. But if i want to go to Sam's club it is 140 miles. So don't get to go much.

It doesn't suck that bad, at lease thats what I remember. I use to live in Parris California when I was a child and those were my best memories. We would walk for miles with our dog, ride our bikes over each other. My God those were the days.  ;D

Four mile is not that bad! Walk, bicycle or get a motorized scooter...it is not the end of the world!
