Electronic cigarettes are a little fad that has taken off in a big way where I live. Anyone have any speculations on these? They seem pretty harmless compared to the alternative- no tar, no smoke, no odor, just water vapor. I've seen people smoking these things inside of restaurants and grocery stores! While I believe this is just a little out of line, is there really anything anyone can do to stop them? They're not hurting anyone? :angry7:
(I guess they come in all sorts of flavors, too, like chocolate, strawberry and mint. Anyone have anything to say on how they're marketing these things? Seems to me like they're trying to appeal to a pretty young audience, making it taste like candy.. )

I though they were suppose to help you quit smoking.. :dontknow:

As a non-smoker, I appreciate the electronic cigarette because it does not subject people around the smoker to second-hand smoke. When you have allergies, there is nothing worse than accidentally walking though someone else's cigarette fumes. The electronic cigarette has to be a blessing to those who cannot (or don't want to) quit the habit but care about other people nearby. Kudos to the person or company who invented this environmentally friendly product.

I rather see people use these electronic cigarettes than to smell people smoking them. I hope more people would use them instead of the real thing. You know what they say about second hand smoking it will kill you, so for people to use these type of cigarettes 5 thumbs up.

I've been thinking about trying them. A couple of friends at work smoke them.

I think they are a good idea, pretty futuristic.

my fiance just purchased one a few months ago,
and so far he's very satisfied (and he's very hard to impress!)
i banned smoking from the bedroom, so this was his alternative.
they're pretty neat little gadgets! i tried a puff and it didn't have
a funky taste like other products he's tried.

I have a cousin who is now addicted to her electronic cigarette. It is better than watching her go threw over a pack a day. Personally I think for the smoker it is better not to be breathing in the tar, staining their hands and smelling like ****. Plus it costs less and the can feel more welcome to smoke in areas where smoking is not allowed. For everyone around it's just as good so we don't have to breathe in the second hand smoke, have to walk in to a cloud of smoke that is not our choice and we don't have to smell the cigarette period! I don't know if there are any side effects that are negative but for the moment I am on board! Although just as an annoying thing I wouldn't want the electronic cigarette to be allowed in a movie theater, it would be a distraction. In a church I still think it is a sin. And I could go on, so it's really a tough say. My cousin who is addicted to them was told by a restaurant manager to put hers away. Other guests thought it was real and they just didn't feel comfortable around it. As per here in Canada it is illegal to smoke anywhere inside. So things like this could even start a fight. Difficult subject all around.

Well it is better for people around those who do like to smoke and clears the air around them but in reality it is just trading one addiction for another. One day we are going to hear about these items and the causes and effects it has on a person, I am almost sure of it.

I wish my husband would smoke them, he won't quit and he coughs every morning really bad, i think he is going to die each morning
-
I first heard of these on TV but never seen anyone actually smoke any of these yet. I think that these are better to smoke than the regular cigarettes

My late uncle smoked Salem cigarettes until he died from emphysema and had to breathe via an oxygen machine. My brother in-law passed last week. He smoked a pack of cigarrettes a day. I think that they should have invented the electronic cigarrette a long time ago.

I am really considering trying them to help me quit smoking. I'm just not sure if they really work or what would be the best brand to try.

I have smoked since about the age of 16 and I am now 55. I have quit probabley4 times, but it never lasted. I did purchase an electronic cigarette and it works ok, it doesn't take away the physical craving as much as a real smoke. But they do work and I see no reason not to let people smoke them where they want. They're not hurting anyone. As far as being in a restaurant and other people not liking it, I say too bad, besides mine has a blue "flame" so you can tell it's not real. :peace:
