Title: Weight Loss With Water?
Post by: syorker82 on February 06, 2013, 06:00:37 pm
Do you think that it is possible to lose weight with drinking more water alone?

I guess if I had to give a one word answer it would no. I know people that drink extra water before a meal in order to feel fuller but such effects are usually short lived. A nutritionist friend of mine does insist that not drinking "enough" water does inhibit digestive efficiency(along with every other bodily function). So my opinion is that water alone won't help you lose weght, but it certainly won't hurt!

I don't know if it will help you lose a LOT of weight, but you will probably lose weight over time.  If nothing else, it will help clean all the toxins out of your system.  Now, that's assuming you don't change anything.  If you go from drinking whatever you normally drink (juice, pop, milk, alcohol, etc) to drinking water only, you might lose a bit more.

I think it would be better combined with some sort of exercise, even if it's minimal.

i think it's definitely possible, if you replace something
with water. just drinking more of it IS healthier,
but if you take into account that something like a can
of pop has 150 calories...and you replace that with a
glass of water... you'll no doubt lose weight gradually.

i've been trying to change the way i eat for about 6 months.
i've lost about 25lbs, so it's slow-going but i feel like i'm doing
it the right way (for me). at this point, i don't miss other
beverages. water "flushes" you out and helps with digestion,
too, which will help with weight loss. fiber+water=

Some peoples bodies retain water and so this may not be beneficial for everyone but may be okay for some.

You may loose weight but you will lack the nutrients your body needs to metabolize fat ect. You will need energy to do things ect. Trust me I have done this a few times when I was younger, not a good thing to do to your body. Because when you are done with your fast, you get really hungry for everything and lets just say nothing ends well.

Calories in, calories out. No, you will not lose weight just from drinking more water, unless it replaces a slew of sugary drinks that you normally have in your daily routine.

Do you mean just adding more water to your diet? And just more water alone! I drink 24 oz of water one half hour before breakfast and I drink water a half hour before each meal. Then I drink a cup of tea after eat meal and most snacks. I have read the other comments. When I went back to drinking more water instead of so much fruit juice and sodas my weight went down.

Water plus a healthy diet of fruits/veggies, and exercises equals to weight loss.

If you replace other beverages with water then yes.

It also helps you feel fuller so you would eat less

If you just drink more water while drinking the same amount of other beverages then no

Water is a great appetite suppressant. It also flushes a lot of stuff out. It helps me maintain my weight since I don't exercise as much as I should.

I truly believe so because you are flushing out toxins and making yourself feel more full, not to mention the calories you save when comparing it to drinking soda and other sugar filled drinks.

It depends on what else you are doing.

If you just drink more water while drinking the same amount of other beverages, then I say No.

However, if you replace other beverages with water, then I say Yes.
Drinking more water may also help you feel fuller so you may eat less and therefore you could lose weight.

Water is one of the biggest tools for weight loss!  The weight watchers diet says at least six 64 oz glasses per day!

Calories in, calories out. No, you will not lose weight just from drinking more water, unless it replaces a slew of sugary drinks that you normally have in your daily routine.

For some people doing exactly that is all that is needed since those sugary carb loaded soft drinks and juices are what causes their weight gain to begin with.

I have read that drinking 8 glasses of really cold water at one time will burn a lot of calories, but how many people can drink that much at once?  You certainly would not want to try it in the winter...Brrrr!

No, water alone won't help with weight loss!   You have to eat..then you have to burn calories!  Diet and exercise are the key!   In the world of quickie weight loss diets...just remember...the faster it comes off..the faster it comes back on!!!!

A little bit off the topic.......I have lost 19.8lbs in 2 weeks by ONLY drinking water. It is very hard to do and is not very healthy, but I needed to lose weight fast and this worked. The first day was fine (I kept sipping water when I felt like eating). By the 2nd day I started to have headaches and by the 3rd day I had cold fevers and could not get out of bed for headaches. I woke up on the 4th day with so much energy that I bounced about the place! The weight kept dropping off at 2.2lbs per day and the energy levels stayed high. After 14 days I started eating a little bit of veggies and then fruit and slowly introduced other foods. The weight stayed off for about 2 years. Apparently the body starts absorbing it's own fat when there is no food coming in. My body shape changed dramatically and I actually started having a waist again!!

I believe it's possible to improve your health by increasing water consumption.  When you drink a lot of water you might experience an appetite adjustment that could lead to weight loss.
