Title: Shockwave crashed while doing Radio Loyalty offer
Post by: tea4me on March 07, 2013, 01:23:10 pm
I am no computer geek, so if someone has suggestions, please provide input.  My shockwave 'crashed' while I was listening to Radio Loyalty (the offer here at FC).  I'm not sure how to fix this problem.  :dontknow:  Help!

Shockwave has definitely had it's problems lately on MANY websites.  Make sure you have the most updated version according to your browser.  Also, when it does crash, just refresh the page and that should take care of it.  There really isn't much else we can do about it but update and live with it.

No Clue. Glad you said something though. Maybe it will come back on its own after re-boot. Is it on the add/remove programs list? Maybe you could get some help there.

I looked for it and didn't see it, unless it's under some other name.

You'll find Shockwave Player on your Add/Remove Programs list, however, you don't want to remove it.  Many websites (and even surveys) depend on having Shockwave and Java installed.  If you remove it, you won't be able to see videos, etc.  Like I said, just try to make sure you've got the most updated version which, at the present time, is:  Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.0.112.

I DID notice that there are updates today to JAVA, so be sure to update that, too!

Sometimes the captcha box gets blocked by an ad and you just have to wait a bit longer until it goes away. Is that what you are experiencing?

What I usually do is let the page fill in.  If I see that the box where the Captcha is looks sort of "grayed out," I'll REFRESH the page.  That usually takes care of the problem for me because there are times when that box is not clickable because of that grayed out issue.

IF you are in chrome, type chrome://plugins/ into your search bar to check that you have the most recent version of the player enabled!

If you are in a different browser, I'm sure you can do something along similar lines. I personally just like chrome best :)

goodluck

Today my Radio Loyalty is trying to load but I cannot hear anything.  It seems to recognize that I am connected, as it prints the codes but I cannot enter them for credit.

I've had that problem before myself.  I sometimes notice that the song is not buffering at all.  I think that may be the website's problem, not yours.

Make sure you have the newest versions of Shockwave installed and if you keep experiencing problems uninstall it through the Add/Remove programs through the control panel and reinstall the newest version because sometimes the older files need cleaned out and a fresh install needs done.  Uninstall first then reboot your system, then reinstall and reboot your system again and it should be okay.  Also, make sure your browser has the latest version as well because sometimes Shockwave being updated is not enough and you need your browser to be capable of handling the updates which Google Chrome is usually one of the fastest to update their browsers if it is needed and they adapt well to Shockwave.  I notice I had my shockwave crash the other day on Radio Loyalty so it could also just be the website causing an error and your shockwave shutting down because of it.  All I did was x out of my browser, rebooted, then tried again and it was fine.

I have upgraded Shockwave and Java but Radio Loyalty is still stuck on "Loading."  I cannot hear music and cannot type in the code.  This problem is new as of yesterday.  Would submitting a support ticket help, or is this something beyond FC's control?

I'm not sure if this could be a problem or not but, are you using any Ad Blockers?  If you are, try turning it off on the page that loads Radio Loyalty and refresh the page.  See if that works.  If not, it wouldn't hurt to put a support ticket in, although I don't think FC would be able to solve the problem.

If I use firefox then Adobe Flash crashes on me every once in a while. I can refresh the page, but I'm not sure if that resets the 10 minutes wait time.

Yes, it will reset that 10-minute timer.  I've seen it for myself.

I believe that quite recently (in the last couple days) Java released an update so maybe you need to upgrade that and see if that solves the problem.

I had the best luck with Radio Loyalty by using Google Chrome, but it crashed.  Now when I use Explorer, every time I submit a captcha I have to go back to the FC page and click on RL again, then reselect my music type.  If I don't, it takes me to a page that solicits a sign-up for RL rewards and does not recognize that I am already doing it through FC.

For all of you having problems with Adobe crashing:

You need to have enough ram (working memory) to run RL and/or any other program that uses Adobe Flash.

It helps to see how much cpu that your computer is using with various processes.  Click Control/Alt/Delete to bring up the Windows Task Manager and look at both the Performance tab to see the graphs showing cpu usage and memory usage.
Also look at the Processes tabs (I usually click on the cpu column to sort the processes by cpu usage -twice) to see which processes are using cpu.

On my desktop, which has 1.25 gigabyte ram, I'm usually running between 50-80% cpu usage with peaks to 100% when running Radio Loyalty. (This is a little better than it was a week ago when I was running at 100% most of the time.)

Obviously if your PC has less that 1 gigabyte ram, you will have problems.  (You can find out how much working memory you have by clicking "My Computer" and then "Properties".

My laptop has 8 gigabytes ram and I can use RL and several other sites that don't use Adobe Flash;  the % cpu usage runs between 30-50%.
But I can't use  RL with other sites that use Adobe Flash (ie game sites).  Then Adobe Flash crashes frequently so, for me , it RL or games -- but not both.

Yes, there seems to be some issues lately with shockwave. I have trouble daily with mine crashing. I go to update it and my computer says I am running the latest version, but then when it crashes it tells me to update shockwave. I don't know what is going on. I just refresh and go on. Every time it crashes it resets the ten minutes. I have noticed many times it crashes just at the ten minute market and can't enter captcha.

Everyone has been having problems with Shockwave for quite a while now.  It's an ADOBE problem and I personally don't think they really care.  Wanna know why?  Because theirs is the ONLY product you can use, there are no other choices.  When someone else comes up with a product that will run better and smoother, watch how fast Adobe will fix their inferior product.
