Title: EVEN SENIOR CITIZENS MUST RETURN TO WORK TO SURVIVE!
Post by: Phatkitty on May 18, 2009, 07:45:11 pm
Currently, my husband is on unemployment.  He has always been the main bread-winner in our household.  He and he alone.  I stopped working in the 90's.  Now he is on unemployment which just dosen't cut it!  So here I am trying to help out by joining sites like FusionCash to supplement our income.  Jeez, here I am, grandma, just about to become "retirement aged" and it is 'back to work' mode that I have to gear up for! Not exactly what I had envisioned for my golden years.  But, at least I can! Quite a few of my older friends do not even know how to work a DVR let alone a computer.  It is like going back to school for most of them!  The detention part of school (lol)! :bs:

it's just not right. people should be enjoying life not having to return to the workforce. people were anticipating retirement and now have to keep working. now that summer is coming...we will be spending a lot of time at camp. i mention this because it got me thinking... we pay 2k a year to keep our camper at a campground (that includes all utilities). i would love to find a second seasonal camp some place south, where it's warm. spend half the year here in ny and go south for the winter. if i could do that and it would only cost 4-6k a year for living (and an eternal vacation) that would be great and cheap living! i can't sell my husband on this idea though because i would have to homeschool the kids...i wouldn't want them switching schools all of the time. but, if times get any rougher...this might be an idea to entertain. i would have to buy a second camper though for the south, an investment that might be worth the return.

That is a really sad concept, it isn't right that you guys are being forced into that situation.  Hope you find something that you are happy with.

After working for nearly 30 years as an electrical engineer for TVA, my dad got to retire at age 55.  Now, he's even having to consider going back to work because his retirement just isn't quite enough.  He & my mom were always responsible with their finances - no collections notices & such, but now he's struggling just to stay afloat.  In the last year, I myself have gone from a $40,000/yr job to making $13/hour.  My hats off to EVERYONE who's pitching in to keep their families & friends above water regardless of how you're doing it (well, the legal methods anyway)!  Keep praying....dont give up. :)

I learned at age 14 how to make money.  I've made a lot for others, but I was still able to retire at age 54.  Spent 3 years living in Europe.  Traveled to China and 38 other countries.  Been to every state in good old USA.  How you might ask.  I learned to use other peoples money.  Sure you work hard but if you do not learn to look for buy one get one free or use systems like FusionCash, you will always be behind the 8 ball.  It takes a lot of little rain drops to make a flood.  May pennies fall from heaven for you too.

It is so hard right now.  I am almost 30 and I have not been able to keep a steady job to start a 401K.  I spent 7 years in continuing education and have nothing to show for it because I cannot get a job that pays me more than 14/hour.  My parents are close to retirement and I know they will probably be working way past reasonable age to have enough to retire on.  Even if they retire, my dad will probably still find side jobs for income.
