Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?
-
No, if you teach gun safety are you then in favor of giving the kids guns?
-
No, I do not think it should be taught. As this will give kids an incentive to go out and buy a gun to practice the safety lessons on using one. Plus, I agree with another post that this says you are in favor of possessing guns.
-
Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?
I believe that gun safety must start at the home, where people have the pointless guns
-
Nope I think it should be taught at home....the use of a gun should be taught by the parents...all parents don't believe in gun use and don't want their children exposed to guns and that should be respected....my mom taught me how to load a gun, aim and shoot....
-
I was taught gun safety in high school while taking ROTC. Actually, the first time I fired a gun was in school. We had a firing range and we used 22 rifles. Times have surely changed.
-
The phrase "gun safety" is an oxymoron. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
-
Personally, no. I think that is more a thing each family should teach their kids. But, then again, I think sex ed should be taught at home but it seems like that has been left to the school as well. Plus, it seems like when people think they know how to do something then they tend to do it more and the last thing I want is a bunch of kids walking down the streets with guns.

Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?
No I think it's the responsibility of the parents to teach their children about firearms. Although I DO BELIEVE IN HAVING OUR TEACHERS ARMED IN ORDER TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN. I also believe that any further "gun bans" or "laws against guns" is a BAD IDEA!!!! After all did you ever meet a criminal WHO OBEYS THE LAWS????

I was taught gun safety, when I was 10 by my grandfather. Also how to care for and store away. Also I was in ROTC in high school which gave you military training. I was also on the Rifle team. The problem is not with the guns, but the people. I do believe in the 2nd Amendment. I do believe more lives have been saved by responsible gun owners. I do believe in concealed weapons permits. The news and other factors do not report the good statistics, just the bad. Those that are against guns, having them etc. Is fine. So was my neighbor. But I tell you what when threatened with gangbangers with knives and zip guns, guess what, when those in the neighborhood came in force and most were gun owners, the problem just went away, no violence, no shooting, and no more gangbangers in the neighborhood after that. Hum, go figure. And my neighbor went with me to get training and a concealed weapons permit. He is now teaching gun safety and responsible ways to keep guns out of hands of children, and also not get stolen by ........ gangbangers etc etc
-
No, it will encourage kids to play with guns.
-
The best gun safety is not having guns to begin with. :angry7:
-
The real problem is: Video Games, kids watch them and can shoot and kill, and can see blood and brains splattered guts etc, and get shot themselves, and have no real world experience except in the video games. So if they get ahold of a real one, they do not understand the real consquences of what happens. The Video games is an early training ground. It is not real, and there minds do not perceive it correctly. You take them out teach them fire arm safety and once they shoot it, and feel the explosion, see the results in REAL LIFE, you will see a kid with a better understanding that yes this is real ,and it could hurt me too. Videos, Zombies, etc is where the problem is coming from in
My opinion

HECK YES IM A FIRM BELIEVER IN GUN'S AND OUR RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!!!!!!!! :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
-
ABSOLUTELY! Are you running for President by the way? :cat:

Gun safety yes taught at home. Also at schools. They can use videos for the younger children. Later in high school, like in ROTC they can teach it further. And yes you will have those idiots, That's what teachers should be trained for. And also medications. I can not believe how we solve all our problems with medications. Not for health reasons but for controlling.... I think some is warranted, but with our new health system, and DR training it is too easy to just prescribe a pill. Yeah, listen to the adds, may cause diaehea, (sp), may cause heart attack, may cause, suicide tendancies (sps), may cause you wanting to go kill somebody, may cause....... etc etc etc. Well combine those pills with the killing slam bam videos and what do you expect. A young mind programmed to .... may cause...... Just saying.
-
No. Gun Safety should only be taught to gun owners, not children.
However, if a family member takes a child hunting or target shooting, the child should be old enough to be taught and to understand how to safely use a rifle or shotgun, or whatever. And it is incumbent upon the adult guardian to teach and instill this. I also believe that said weapon should be locked away without access to children when not in use.
-
I think we are agreeing, but yes adults should be taught gun safety, and Children too. But there is the right time and age for it, and they should be locked away. But, how do you keep the criminals from breaking into your home stealing your guns when you are not home. Hummmmm, how do they know you may have guns, Hummmmmmmmmmmmm, and how far can you go to keep them out, Hummmmmmmmm,,,I think this is the answer.... Tune in tomorrow
-
yes i do it should be taught in schools some schools already do teach it

Before I went to school, my grandpa took me out to the back of his property. Besides the 12 gage he showed me the 4-10. And he showed me how to shoot, the sound I will never forget, and the re-percussion when I shot it. My ears ached, and my shoulder hurt ,and I knew right at that moment this is something not to play around with. I knew it was not like in the cartoons, I knew you had to be careful, learn about safety on or off, and the only reason you shot it was to use it for a purpose. In this case it was hunting birds, which I cleaned, and later ate. I knew it was not a toy. So I say, yes, children can be taken out to the gun range and taught properly. But I think I know today, with all the drugs on the market, something has gone wrong. What I can not explain. But I am glad I was taught. And know I can defend my family. Today I do not go hunting, but I just wished there was a way to get the fear out of many legal morally right citizens and be able to defend themselves from the idiots out there that will harm them.

Children dont need to learn about guns in school. Everybody does not have a gun, and children dont need to learn about guns at a very young age.
-
As important as gun safety is, I don't really think it's the schools job to teach it. Since most schools would never allow the kids to handle a gun, it would be theoretical at best. Parents need to teach gun safety if they have guns in their houses, and even if they don't - they need to talk to their kids about handling guns if they find one at a friends house.
-
I learned gun safety while taking rotc in high school. Took the hunter's safety course there, too.
-
I think it's a difficult subject. Some kids aren't responsible enough to handle it. I think it hound be something parents should attend WITH their kids!!!!
-
Video games aren't a problem. Billions of video games have been sold all over the planet. The only REAL problem video games have caused is some kids parents don't spot them from playing and they get blood clots and die from sitting around for 12+ hours straight.
-
No, I do not. If they want or need to learn, they can take a concealed weapons class or a self-defense class.
-
We have had guns around my entire life. We were taught to respect them at a very young age. Most of my family is in law enforcement and are also hunters. We do not need new gun laws, we need to enforce what is already on the books. Background checks/screenings and training before you can take it home. Also the background checks should take a few days, so if you are not serious you will not bother to get one.
-
hmm im not sure ,,but may not be a bad ideal :bunny:

Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?
I think that there is too many thoughts on things and there need to an agreement on from all states to agree. :icon_rr:
-
I think that all those NRAers should be shot with their own guns. We do need major gun control reform in this country. I understand guns don't kill people, people kill people, but it seems that all the freakin' nuts have the guns and the normal people don't. So we need gun control. I do not think they should be teaching any child about guns.
-
Without guns, our government would oppress us all into submission like they are trying to do right now. It is our right to own and bear arms that is keeping them at bay, and once you give them up, all hope for freedom in this nation will be lost forever, period. This is already in play and trying to be implemented. Our government is building a tyrannical police state right under our noses and people are allowing it, and they will soon be coming to try and take our guns. This is the time to use them and excercise our right and defend our freedoms as they were intended to do when our forfathers granted us these rights in the first place. The tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots from time to time if it is to survive.
As for gun safety, that is something that should be taught at home. Children need to be taught to respect guns. They are tools, nothing more. I don't trust the school systems to teach my kids anything, much less gun control. They are already indoctrinating our youth and brain washing them to conform and comply, and not how to be free thinkers who can think and act for themselves. Wake up America. It is time to seize our nation back and restore it to the people, and take it from the corporations and corrupt government institutions that currently have it.
-
This is a subject I don't think everyone will agree with. I just hope no one gets so upset they lose control and become nasty in their comments. We need to have a decent discussion whether you are pro or con on guns, and government gun control. Have a good day FusionCash Members
-
no but i think it should be optionally taught when someone turns 18
-
Yes I agree, but I think at least age 14 or 16. And yes registered and yes checked to see if on medications. But how far do we go into peoples private lives. Well, that is something to discuss no?
-
Kids need to learn more science, math and history before being taught how to use a gun.
-
I've never really heard about teaching gun safety at school. No I would not like to see this part of the curriculum.
-
No because most people don't go on to own/handle guns in their life on a regular basis. It is definitely something that should be sought out if one does plan on getting friendly with them, though. Perhaps it could be taught as an elective is some kids were interested.

Gun safety is an oxymoron.

Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?
I think that would be a great idea and I also think that arming teachers and principals is smart too!! After all, what better way to protect our kids!!!
-
In our state if a child wants to go hunting (first with parents) they must take a gun safty course, because they will not get a lic. without it. They are taught how to respect a gun and how to take care it what and what not do with one. How to respect other people while around on. Respecting others land and property. My youngest son took it and liked it so well that he took one of my friends twin girl to learn and then another boy and helped then teach it. It is all put on by the fish and wildlife of the state. Also my husband teaches it in the 4-h groups (senior division) for their shooting matches and he is a retired fish and wildlife game warden. My kids grew up with guns around all the time and never did anything wrong with with them nor all of the other farm and ranch kids. Guns are for the most part only harmful in the hands of those intent on harm.

Have you ever met anyone who accidentally shot a loved one with a loaded gun? That five year boy in Kentucky that shot his younger sister will have to live with that burden the rest of his life because some idiot adult thought it was appropriate to give him a gun in the first place and not keep it locked up in a gun safe. Having guns around does not guarantee children's safety.
-
When I was in High School, I joined the ROTC. And joined the rifle club which was a competition with other ROTC High Schools. We were not only taught gun safety, but discipline. This is the age when you are around 17 and way it can be taught. But realize .... there always are nuts out there, even those with knives, forks and spoons, and yes pressure cookers, etc. But one thing for sure, my family can defend themselves against those that want to take our lives, or rob us or rape us, or whatever. Just my thinking, but I don't go out trying to do horrid things to others. So I am glad I grew up at the time I did.

A co-worker and friend of mine showed me this article which thoroughly amazed me. It concerned two children, a five year old boy and his 2 year old sister (I think I have the ages correct - I know they were pre-kindergarden age. Apparently in this part of this country, it is common for parents to give their children guns at this age. Well, the five year old accidentally shot and killed his sister. What a country we live in and this is the result of not controlling handguns.
Many people will say, I would never allow my kids to have a gun. I am more responsible than that. If that is the case, why do so many case such as this keep happening all the time.
Besides, here is my counter-argument to those who say I need my gun for protection since I live in a bad neighborhood.
Well here is my take: If you are a responsible parent, you will lock your gun up in the safe. I suppose then you would transfer your gun to your bedside before going to sleep. What if your child comes in your room and sees the gun and takes it - accident waiting to happen. What if the gun is still locked in the safe. Do you honestly think you will have time to get the gun out if someone breaks in. Chances are they will be quiet and by the time you realize it they could have a gun at your head. Further they are not exactly going to make it easy for you to have the chance to shoot them. And plus, you are most likely going to be nervous and that can make you miss-fire or shoot someone in your family by mistake.
-
We see the average accident cases, are we wanting more because someone might do something, I think you risk more lives by bringing guns in.
-
If you want to teach your child about guns take them to a gun range or let them take a class about guns. I personly don't like guns but I think it is okay for people who do but there does need to be some sort of cut off point as to how many and what kind the average person can own.
-
Do you think that gun and firearm safety should be taught in the public schools?
No. I think that firearm safety should be taught to youngsters by responsible adults. The parents should take them to a shooting range or safe and legal place to learn how to shoot a gun. Gun safety should be taught to the children of parents who have a gun. That is why kids shoot each other. They are not taught, but are naturally curious. Sometimes an professional instructor would be a wiser choice. All kids should know what the dangers of a gun mean.

NO....that is something that should be taught at home. Alot of things that should be taught at home are now being taught in public school. The government is trying to control everything that involves raising our kids! This FREE country is turning out to be NOT SO FREE anymore!!!
