Do kids today get away with to much?
In this day and age I do believe they do get away with too much. I remember growing up in my parents' house and let me tell you my fathers' word was LAW. You either obeyed or paid the piper so to speak; which meant a good hard wack on the behind or punishment from hanging out with friends. Todays' parents seem to be afraid of discipline. Maybe it's because of social services and kids thinking they can "turn their parents in" if they get a good old-fashioned spanking!!!! I think the old expression of "spare the rod, spoil the child" definitely has more meaning than parents today wish to acknowledge!!! Too bad cause they are raising "spoiled brats"!!!!!!!!!!!!

They sure do. People still think children who cause trouble are not aware of the wrong they are doing, that they are some how naive when it comes to doing something that is bad. It seems like torment comes natural to children who are not in tuned to wrong doing.

Yes!!! and it's sooo easy for them to be spoiled by technology even if they're parents try and shelter them from it!

I see so many children (and even young adults) who have not been taught how to work or shoulder any responsibility. Parents are not doing their kids any favors by letting them focus on entertainment every leisure moment they have. Families who share chores and enable their children to develop good work ethics give them a good foundation for success in all their future endeavors.

I think they should be raiseed with reponisbltys. But so many of them just thumb their nose and or flip you off. I belive in tough love. Case in point, my youngest son skipped school and go into a little trouble because of it, slapped into the d home, when they called me my answer was how long can i leave him in? So he spent the night there and sure was ready to come home the next day. He had a great parole officer that set him straight ( was a drill instructor in the army) Never had a bit of trouble after that. He went to work did good in school and was also in military program at school. Unfortunely a drunk driver ran into him and killed the four children and himself. I believe my son would have been an outstanding citizen as he was already enlisted in the navey.

I think media causes alot of what they do, but if you raise your kids how to go they will turn out good in the end

It is the responsibility of the parents to teach the child responsibility. The changes of our times have caused this to be harder and harder, as both parents work outside the home in many families. I know first hand how hard this is, as my husband and I both worked when our daughter was growing up. The one good thing was we worked opposite shifts. My daughter has grown up to be a wonderful mother. However, I don't think there is any one thing that causes kids to go down the wrong path.

Yes, completely too much! I would have never gotten away with some of the things that kids get away with nowadays! For example: kids today have no respect for adults or any type of authority figures!

They sure in the heck do! I see kids talking back, getting sarcastic, being ungrateful when they are blessed beyond necessity and it gets under my skin. But in their defense, a lot of kids are cursed out, neglected, publicly humiliated, and not placed as a priority in their parents' lives and their bad behavior is the result. I'm so BLESSED to have the bond I do with my kids but I believe in spanking. Yes, their opinions count and I take them into consideration but in the end my word is law and it is not to be questioned or complained about. I try not to say no to their requests and respond with well let's compromise by doing this.... I think I'm a pretty cool mom.... with a bit of strictness mixed in but that's ok, they'll thank me when they're older for not trying to be their friend.

I agree, most of the fault is in the parents. I don't know if they are afraid to discipline their kids or what. I have been in many restaurants and seen kids running around, jumping on the booths, being extremely loud and either the parents are blind and deaf or they just don't care. I know when my kids were little, they were not the perfect little angels, but they knew how to behave in public. They weren't afraid of either of us, well maybe my husband more than me, but they respected us. They knew if they misbehaved the first thing would be "the look", then my husband would say that's enough....using their real name, not nickname, and the last would be a consequence, don't hate me, but an old fashioned spanking. We tried sending them to their rooms, but then realized how stupid that was, they had toys and TV in their rooms.
