"The author of the bible.."
Which one? The Bible did not have one author, it had many.

Hardly. Inspired by God, but written by man. Saying the Bible was authored by God is an incorrect statement. The Bible was written by men and women. It does not even contain all the books written. The Bible as we know it was formed around 300 AD. It does not include, for instance, the Gospel of Mary.
So, therefore, asking which author you prefer is a valid question, as there were at least 40 authors. Moses (debatable, most theologians attribute the Pentateuch to 4-5 separate authors), Paul, David, etc. Personally, my favorite author within the Bible was David.
While inspired by God, none of the authors were without sin, except for Isaiah.

I'm going to have to list a few: Stephen King, Victor Gischler, Margaret Weis, Tracey Hickman, Don Perrin, Jean Rabe.

Love Stephen King, too. The Talisman (he wrote with Peter Straub) is my favorite, followed by The Wastelands - which is the 3rd book of the Dark Tower series.
-
Wendell Berry is my favorite.

I love Stephen King, Norah Roberts and James Patterson to name a few. I like so many different authors as I am an avid reader. I read a variety of different books from horror to suspense mysteries and Romance. I also enjoy a non fiction once in a while depending on the story line.

If I had to choose one author to read it would be Louis L'amour. Followed closely by Mark Twain,
