I gamble all the time. But I learned early on don't gamble anymore than your willing to loose.  So I always set a limit before I go and if by some reason I reach that limit it's time to go home.  And no I never bet on credit that is just bad all the way around.

Definitely set a limit. This is not a kid's game. A few people are just plain lucky, but the majority of us need to set a limit or else we'll get ourselves in trouble. I've read stories of people being ruined by gambling, because they couldn't control themselves.

I used to live in Vegas, so spent a lot of times at the casinos.  However, I usually just spent small money to get free drinks and to get to know the good looking dealers!

I went twice years ago. The first time I won 400 bucks. The second time I lost a 100 but I did win 2 free meals so maybe I didn't really lose anything that time either. Either way the whole thing is not my cup of tea. :P

I've been known to gamble.  Haven't really done any recently, as I'm living on a fixed income and don't have a lot left at the end of the month.  I was in Las Vegas last week and threw $15 into the slot machines, lost it all but had some fun (and some free drinks).  It's really easy to get caught up in the gambling.  You might want to watch yourself the next time you've got the chance to gamble.  $200 for your first time seems like a lot to me, unless you can afford to lose all that money at once.

I used to gamble at casinos and horse races.  I won some and lost some.  I won $54.20 by betting $2 on the 5 horse in a race.  His odds were at 60 to 1.  I bet him to place.  I won $1,000 between Majestic Star and Trump casinos in Indiana.  I missed my bus and ended up taking a cab home.  I don't gamble now because I cannot afford to.

I don't gamble. I believe that I don't have enough money to just threw away. I hope you had fun at lease since you lost a whole lot of money. OUCH!

Try not to do that again. You work so hard for your money just to threw it away. Most of the time you will loose you might win once in awhile, but you will loose more than you win, so watch out not to get in that habit of gambling it could get addictive.  Good luck and be very careful.  ;)

I don't gamble.  I learned early on how hard it was to earn money so the idea of losing it on a chance doesn't intrigue me.

I've told people before to only gamble as much as you can afford to lose.  Most people seem to forget the last word of the sentence.  Yes, you may win the next time, but you might not, and that's the problem.  So many people think that they will win the next time, hence why they put their entire paycheck or house deed on the line hoping that they will win big on the next roll.

I used "as much as you can afford to lose" in respect to earning online also.  People dump their money into referrals or membership upgrades on other sites, and while that works out if you make it back, most of the time people don't check to ensure that they will get it back, or better yet, they don't ensure they make a profit with it.

I've gambled before and have lost too, so I understand. But I've learned to set limits, both on how much to lose as well as how much to win... People tend to set a limit on how much they are willing to lose but don't set a limit for how much they'll win. And so usually what happens is that a person may start out on a winning streak and keeps playing. Then their luck turns and they start losing more than they're winning. and Eventually they end up hitting their losing limit and leave the casino in the hole. If, on the other hand, they had set an upper limit as well, they'd have left earlier, but would have made money instead of losing it.

So for example, I'll set a $100 limit as how much I'm willing to lose (figuring that I'd spend that if I went out for dinner, a movie, and a few cocktails afterwards... think of losing money is equal to spending money on entertainment), so I "buy" $100 in chips, and that is the last time I pull any money out of my wallet (sometimes I'll even lock my wallet in my car so that I'm not tempted to use the ATM, etc.). Then I set my upper limit as twice that, so I also quit once I've reached $200 in chips (although this is more of a "soft" limit.. I'll explain next). Basically with having the upper limit, this is more of a guide as to when I should start thinking of quitting... Once I've made over $200, I'll cash out $100 and put that in my wallet and play with the remaining $100. And when that chip count gets to $200, I'll again cash-out $100 and play with the remaining $100, and the process repeats again. By doing this, I'll make sure that when my luck turns unlucky, I'll still leave with a profit (or at worst, break even). I may also use the upper limit such that once I've passed it, if I lose 3 times in a row, my luck has changed, so I quit. Usually I'll do this the first time I pass the upper limit (so that I'll stop when I have a profit instead of just breaking even), and then if I pass the upper limit again, I just play that $100 all the way through.

I've gambled twice in my life.  I lost money once both times.  Even though I set a limit and didn't exceed it, I just decided that losing money was not my idea of a good time.

When we go we set a limit. And if that goes so be it. But we never gamble high stakes just slot machines and usually the 1cent to 25cent machine . And it is only once in a great while. Since we don't drink, party we should be able to gamble once in a while.I guess you could call us cheap I usually come out a winner, maybe not much but if icome away with more then i started am a winner and had some fun.

The thing about gambling is, it should be treated as a fun, occasional money waster, and that's it. You need to play KNOWING that you're going to lose overall. Set a budget and stick to it. You should never think you are playing to actually win anything big.

When I was younger I played the lottery. Just the local dailies for some small amounts, I had such little money that I actually couldn't even afford to spend the amount I did to get those tickets since I had so little coming in. I never won anything and gave up after a while feeling like if I wasn't going to win it was better for me to just keep my money in my pocket than risk it on a pretty much guaranteed loss.

Right now I feel better giving my time to sites like fusion cash. I always get something in return and it's free.

My grandfather bet on the horses every day. He had 2 rules that he stuck to - most people can't stick to them like he did, but it allowed him a source of entertainment without short changing his family obligations. Rule #1 - NEVER EVER Bet with money you can not throw away -literally! If you can afford to put that $2 or $4 or whatever the amount; to place it in the garbage can, then you can not afford to lay down that bet. There is no such thing as if I bet this $2 by buying a lottery ticket or whatever, when I win, I will have made that $2 grow. Doesn't happen! Rule#2, never mix you money. He always had in mind, how much he was going to bet that day. That money went in one pocket, everytime he would win, he would place that money in a different pocket and that is exactly where that money stayed. Once you start betting back your winnigs, pretty soon, you end up like that young lady who visited the carnival and came home $200 lightier. I have tested both of these theories and they work well, for the non-addictive. Gambling can be as caustic has alcholism or drug addiction. :cat:

Most I've ever done is buy a few scratch tickets when I was in my 20's.  Never really was a vice for me when it comes to gambling.

I think gambling is the stupidest thing in the world~it is just like burning up money. Sure, some win sometimes, but after they've  already lost how much???  I HATE every aspect of gambling!

I lived there too, for a couple years, but I've never gotten into gambling.  I've played a few slot machines, but I get more satisfaction out of pinball machines.  The Alladin had Haunted House, my favorite.  Now I'm in New Mexico.  I recently visited the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel, but only to photograph the rock memorabilia.  I was delighted that it wasn't filled with smoke the way casinos used to be.  In a couple months it's turning back into Isleta Hotel and Casino so I wanted to "worship at the alter of rock 'n roll" while I could.  8)

I have never been to a casino or anything like that.  I used to play texas holdem in college all of the time and I really enjoy it.  I don't know anyone to play where I am living now though.

I've gambled a few times at the slot machines, but I've always been careful and put aside how much I'm going to bet and keep my winnings.  I have seen someone addicted to gambling and it ruined a big part of his life.

Sounds like you learned a hard lesson.  My thought is better now than later!!!!  Gambling is for fools, you might as well take your money and burn it cause it would be about the same!!!!!

Gambling can go either way.  I am in control of myself not to go to crazy...I have somewhat of a non-addictive personality.  I was in Las vegas three weeks ago and lost two hundred dollars. I have been losing the last several times that I was out there. Last week I was in Arizona and won a few hundred dollars.  I guess it all evens out as long as you don't let it control your every waking moment. I have an on-line site that I go to occasionally.  I set it up, originally, to make sports bets.  When I have absolutely nothing else to do I will play a few hands of Black Jack or Craps but never win, or lose, enough for it to impact my life one way or another.

I have gamble many times in Vegas and also in Laughlin and even Reno and Lake Tahoe.  Also on Indian Reservations.  Frankly, I do not care much for it.  I usually try and limit my gambling money to be no more than $400 or $500 for a given weekend.  Sometimes I have broke even, Sometimes I have come out ahead, but the majority of the time I lose what I came with.

No I have never gambled. The closest I have ever come to that is playing the occasional lottery once in a while. Gambling is a bad addiction and will devastate anyone financially.

I live in Las Vegas and do my share of gambling every month.  Gambling is very addicting and you should be careful how much you spend.  The most i won was 50,000 and won 25,000 twice.  But if I can count all my losses it would be more than I won.  But it is nice to win big sometimes.  I am hoping to some to hit the mega bucks which starts at 7 million and keeps going until some one hits.  Ok I know I am dreaming but it would be nice to win it.

I've been to a number of casinos.  I've won and I've lost.  As with everying, moderation is the key. Just realize that casinos are in the business to make money.  Set limits and KNOW that you aren't going to make a living at gambling.

The closest "gambling" I've ever done was enter into lotto pools at work (which we never won) - mostly for fun.  I've never gone to casinos and played any games there.

The advice most everyone is listing here about setting a limit is one of the best pieces of advice.  The rush you feel during the games can become addictive (as it sounds you found out), and if you are on a losing streak, if you don't have a pre-set cutoff and stick to it, you can lose a lot fast.

Probably if you approach gambling with the mindset that it's strictly entertainment (and a little bit of a competition), then you might be able to handle the losses better, but you plan ahead that it's okay to lose whatever you plan to bet.  If you win, great.  If you lose, then you had fun playing the game...like playing those carnival games - you place $5 to play the ring toss game and if you miss, you're out $5, but you had fun trying.
