This morning I woke up tired and had breakfast this morning. I also took my multivitamin and my vitamin water. As soon as I took this, I felt so much better. I wasn't planning to do a lot on my day off from work, but I got some things done. Anyway, when I was ready to leave, I checked for mail and what do I get, I get a bill from the Dr. for $220.00 dollars and they expect me to pay this within 14 days. I only work Part time. I have insurance until the end of this month, because I can not afford it anymore after this. So, my question is if you have health insurance and been paying to be covered, then why isn't the insurance paying up on what their suppose to pay. Makes no sense to me. I think it is a joke at this point to have health insurance. PERIOD!!!
-
Oh I so feel your "insurance" aggravation. I have medicare and I need what I pay for it for food and necessities each month as it is and then on top of it, get billed 20% on top of that because Doctors charge more than what medicare will pay for whatever procedure or visit. I feel for you, I am in the same boat.
-
Amen to that!! I am glad I am not the only one that is having this problem with the insurance.
-
The problem with health insurance is: You pay...and pay...sometimes you do not even get what you pay for.
-
I do think that insurance is important, especially if you have to go into the hospital for surgery. I did last year. I was only in the hospital for 2 days and my bill was over $10,000 before the insurance settled.
-
My husband got a bill for a blood test for over 200.00. we've been paying 30.00 a month I don't think they can do anything as long as you pay something .I'm mad at health care to I hope the Obama one helps . They can even put you in collections but not for awhile.
-
Yes, because if you get really sick or injured and go to the hospital you need it for sure, otherwise you'll have financial problems paying that big hospital bill.
-
I used to think not so much a need for myself as when my girls were small and even in their teens I always carried insurance but rarely got sick or had need for. So I have been cruising along for the last 5yrs without insurance because I couldn't afford to have the $ taken from my payck. That was until the last 3yrs I started slowly sliding downhill and last yr I crashed and was in the hospital 4x's and now that I am medically disabled, I would do almost anything to have some kind of insurance, even if it is Medicad. My Rhemutologist charges $300 for intial visit and $170 for follow up visits. You don't even want to know what meds cost. What the Federal Government needs to is place a cap on cost of insurance and pharmacuticals. This is one unhappy :cat:

I only pay for auto insurance. I never pay to have health insurance in my life. Now you see why you don’t need it.
-
I think I would have a difficult time getting health insurance even if I could afford to pay for it. Too many preexisting conditions.
-
I know health insurance is very costly. I have always had it, even though I complained about the price I still paid. A few years ago, I had cancer. My operation was in the thousands, but my chemo was $125,000.00 a session and I had 6 sessions. Thank God for insurance there was no way I could pay that!

Yes I agree I was looking up information on Health insurance for my son because its suppose to be a law or something, its ridicules The deductible is anywhere from $550 to $5000 than you have to pay co-pays as well and the price to have this medical insurance is between $63.00 to $150.00 crap I don't go to the doctors enough to pay the deductible and than co-pays what do they pay exactly. Its not fare my son can't afford that even though he works full time after rent electric and car payments and insurance there is no money left, where are these young ones going to get more money they would have to get a part time job on top of the full time job there whole life will be spent at work.
-
If you people think it is expensive now, just wait until ObamaCare kicks in totally on 1/1/14. It's going to at least double on up to 5 times what it is now. It will also be the law that you have to have it or you will be fined by the federal government.
Nearly 50% of doctors plan on retiring in the next 3 years so there won't be nearly enough doctors available. Hospitals plan on limiting the number of Medicare patients they have. Things are going to get way worse next year.

I think all types of insurance are rip off's I feel if you don't use any kind you should get reimbursed at least 3/4 of the money in a year, Until I got cancer and even than I had no insurance, I couldn't get help from social svcs. cuz I made to much money and it took me 4 yrs. to get disability and by that time I went from stage 2 to stage 4 went thru 2 sessions first session 6 times and the second session 3 times now I am in remission but I got medical bills out the ying yang medicare only pays 80% and I don't get enough money to pay the bills. Thank God for my nice doctors they tell me don't worry about the bills just make sure I come for my appts.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Most of the comments are very true. Thank you all again.

I pay around 220 myself. Currently? It's sort of worth it. In 2014 is what I'm worried about. There's a lot of fearmongering going around with stats showing premiums could go up 160% for people my age. If that's the case, I'm cancelling mine and just paying the fine at the end of the year.
-
It's all kind of scary. Currently, my employer pays into for myself and my family but is considering changing that next year to employees only. It will cost so much to insure my family if they do that.
-
To me it is NOT worth the risk to NOT have insurance. You just never know the hand you are going to be dealt. My best friend took her daughter in for a high fever. After a bunch of tests - LEUKEMIA. How would you pay LITERALLY MILLIONS in doctor's bills without insurance? I will pay the premium just in case.
-
For me it is worth it. i complain as much as all of you, my work insurance does not pay for my family, only me. If I want insurance tru them for the whole family is $500 per paycheck plus whatever copays they have.. So we are taking the one for hubbys work which is $160 per paycheck for the whole family, the downside is that the deductible is $400 per person $900 per family and $2,000 co-insurance (whatever that means) per person or $4,000 per family.
I tell you I have been bitching about it for as long as possible, but then last year, my youngest daughter got really sick and doctors could not figure out what it was, so they had X-rays, MRIs, MRAs, EEGs, EKGs ans all sort of blood work, she covered her $400/$2,000 in 2 months, of course We are still paying little by little for them. Then my older daughter got pregnant and had a miscarriage and her bills where about $200/$900 between deductibles and coinsurance (she is paing for those from her part-time job while she still goes to college) and then my husband had to have an MRI and there it went another chunk.
I went to the OB/GYN for some issues and found out that I need surgery ASAP, and had to stay 2 days in the hospital, my bills where the rest of the $900/$4,000 but not so much, the insurance had paid for most of my surgery, if I had no insurance what so ever, I would have to file for another bankruptcy in 4 years. No help from anywhere, we make to much money for help, and what we make is not enough to pay for house, food, Gas for cars and no talk about repairs. Help our College daughter with some of her expenses since she cannot work full time and go to school and still have a teenage daughter in HS, where if she wants to play sports in school I have to pay $100 per sport for her to be able to share an school ride with other teams. This country has gotten so bad that Middle class is none existent and poor are homeless. The cost of living is a joke and services don't want to help because a family of 4 making $50,000 or more a year is not poor. And all of this started at least for my family more than 6 years ago.
Health Care Insurance is a rip-off but not having one is worse.

It's expensive, but worth it if you have something major happen. It's too bad that health "insurance" isn't insurance anymore, but more like a pre-paid medical care plan... People expect first dollar coverage on all of their medical costs which in turn causes the insurance companies to have to pay for more than they really should as a true insurance company. "Insurance" is supposed to cover for the unforeseen costs that could amount to more than what a person can easily handle. So with car insurance, if you get into an accident, your insurance will help pay for the repair bills. However, like I mentioned before, health "insurance" is more like a pre-paid plan covering all medical costs, both the unforeseen expensive ones as well as the foreseeable minor ones. If I have a cold and want to see if that's really all it is or if it's more serious like pneumonia, I go to the doctor and my insurance company gets billed for my visit (who in turn may pass some of the costs to me for deductibles and co-pays). Using the car insurance example, this would be similar to filing an insurance claim if a check-engine light turns on and you take your car in to get things checked out. Health insurance would cost much less if people used it as true insurance, using it only to cover major medical expenses, like treatments for cancer, and paid out-of-pocket for minor things, like getting physicals or minor lab tests. This is actually why some people chose to go without insurance... They could set aside the money that they would've paid in premiums (perhaps invest that money so that it earns more in interest) and pay for their minor costs out-of-pocket. Then if they do face something serious, they'd break into their savings to cover those higher expenses. If there weren't so many government regulations, costs would follow more of a normal supply-and-demand economics... Unfortunately, regulations require that first-dollar coverage, prevent people from shopping for cheaper insurance offered in different states, and now (through the Affordable Care Act) require even more services to be covered (like women's birth control), people with pre-existing conditions to be covered, and "children" up to the age of 26 to be covered, all of which adds costs to health care that the insurance companies have to pay (and therefore pass on more of these expenses to their consumers, whether a person wants it or not).
-
I read somewhere that insurance is a gamble:
The insurance company is betting that you stay healthy while they collect your premiums and you are betting that you will get sick and need their insurance. If you lose, you win and if you win, you lose.

Did the Dr. submit a claim to your insurance company? If they didn't, you need to submit a claim to the insurance company if want them to pay what they are supposed to.

It isn't going to matter because we are going to be required to get it, but yet the government isn't required to protect our children when they make them go to school, imagine what these poor parents are thinking.

I had health insurance till the end of April. The department store I worked at was closed so I lost my insurance. It paid for almost every doctor bill I had. Plus prescriptions also. trying to find insurance now on my own is terrible. I can't afford anything really good that will cover all the doctor bills and my prescriptions.
So is insurance a good deal,,, yes if you can get it through your employer. If you don't plan on ever going to the doctor, or the hospital, then that is your choice not to have any.
I don't understand why Insurance has to cost to much. There are some of us that just can't afford it and need it !!
-
I think it not worth to pay for health insurance. But, if you sick all the time like me. I do think it is worth it.
-
Omg I couldn't agree more!!! I have insurance but I can't afford to go to the doctor does that make any sense. I work full time in retail so you know I don't make alot of money but i pay $160 a month for my child and I. I then have to pay a $3000 deductible, a $25 co-pay not to mention they only pay a percentage anyways. All of this adds up and now doctors turn me away because i owe them so much money it's the most discouraging thing ever!!!! :crybaby2:
-
I think it'd be a lot more fair if it went like this-
You pay 200 a month for it +
You rarely go to the doctor the whole year =
At the end of the year your get a portion of your money back (50% or so) if you qualify.
I understand how insurance works, but since I rarely go to the doctor I just feel that I'm throwing my money away every month. I kind of get frustrated with it.

Hello  I think a lot of illnesses can be cured with proper rest and eating well. A lot of times we head to the doctor :bs: and we didn't need to. Similarly a lot of us have health insurance when we really don’t need it. I do think health insurance is a big joke. But by 2014 we all will be force to have it thanks to Obama don't care. :bs: A lot more of us will be heading to the doctors since it will be all paid for by our insurance. I hope this Obama don’t care ::) disappears.

Wow, what I timely question. I pay $400 a month for medical insurance that is supposed to cover hospitalization (fortunately I haven't had to find out if the insurance pays on this part of the policy) and for annual preventative exams..eye, physical, woman's wellness, colonoscopy, etc.
So, I dutifully scheduled the appts for myself and my husband. Well, now the bills are rolling in. My paid for physical cost me $170, my husbands was $35, My woman't wellness covered the tests but not the doctor's office visit...another $100. The lab sent the blood work for my husband to a different lab than mine so his paid for physical cost $270.
Now I am trying to schedule my covered colonoscopy but since these bills have just started to arrive, I thought I should check to see what this covered preventative exam would cost. WeLL, AFTER 6 PLUS hours on the phone, I was able to find out that a) the plan only pays 80%, b) you have no control over who the labwork is sent to or if the anisthesioligist is an "in network" provider c) no one can tell you for sure (even when I got them the billing codes from the hospital) just what is charged for these procedures. So, my cost will be somewhere between $500 and $1700, plus the gas to drive to the hospital twice (once for pre op tests) and once for the procedure and the cost for my husband and I to take off work. Guess I will be waiting another year to do this because I don't have an extra 2grand to spend when I have no indication that I have a problem! Guess the insurance is not worth it!

I read all the comments, agree with some. I have a majors issue, and insurance for me is good. I think we should be more concern with our own health. We got to stop expecting the doctor to cure us when we spend years making our health deteriorate. Some of us try to stay health, but life happen. :dontknow: have a

Yes, I always use my insurance for my kids and myself. Using all the medical, dental, and vision, pay nothing out of pocket.
