I cannot believe the intensity of these storms.  I do not think I could live in that kind of environment - to have horrendous weather in the warm weather and nasty cold weather in the winter.  Definitely not for me.

I hope that all who are affected by the Oklahoma storms are okay.  If you have access to your local weather reports, stay tuned.  It can help your prepare or be as close to preparation as you can for any other dangerous storms or other types of bad weather heading your way.
One day, in past years, our city was given an "all clear" to resume our normal activities during Hurricane season.  About 30 minutes later, we received a Hurricane alert and a Flash Flood alert.  Twenty minutes later, our city was hit with a hurricane and flooding over the entire city.

Oklahoma will always feel like home to me, but I have not lived there for 7 years.  I was raised there, and all my family are there.  Luckily, none of them were impacted by the tornadoes.  But there is some horrible damage.  And a tragic number of lives lost.  The last I heard was 91.

Praying for all my fellow Oklahomans in Moore and in Shawnee. Such a sad and tragic event. My heart breaks for all the lives lost, especially all those young children. My heart aches for those parents. No one should ever have to suffer the loss of a child. I'm thankful we live in a state where we can pull together and help those in a time like this. God bless all those affected by the tornadoes and storms and God bless all the responders and volunteers who are helping all the people in Moore.

I was on a work conference call with a teammate that lives and works from home in Moore at about the time the tornado struck.  She said she was in the stairwell of her apartment while on the call.  Then she dropped off the call and we couldn't get a hold of her after that - not knowing what was going on.

She emailed the team that she, her children and grandchildren are all okay, and her apartment where she lives was untouched.  The path of destruction was only a little over a mile from her home.

She said the power went out while she was on the call and took that as the sign to get out of dodge.

She said some of her grandchildren went to school at one of the two that were destroyed.  It took until 7pm for her to pick up her last grandchild at another school that was spared.  She said the streets were clogged with debris everywhere and traffic.

So glad she and her family is safe!

Our area doesn't traditionally have a lot of trouble with tornado's but it does happen several years ago two trailer parks were devastated by tornado's and last year on the road around from my mother's house huge, really huge oak trees were just pulled up by the roots.  Yes, pray for all these folks.

My husband and I live in Oklahoma City, and he is a campus police officer at a nearby college. After a request for all available Law Enforcement to assist, my husband went to Moore to help out today. He was placed on a Strike team in the heaviest hit area of Moore. The things he have saw today broke his heart beyond belief. He am still trying to process everything. He met some people with heartbreaking stories as well as stories of heroism. The thing that sticks out the most was everyone's will to go on. These people are amazing, and make us proud to be Oklahomans.
He told me that today was most certainly his hardest day as a Police Officer.
Thank you to everyone who has donated food, water, and everything else, as my husband can tell you first hand it is greatly appreciated and needed.

I don't understand why state or federal law doesn't require basements built on every school site that's in a tornado area?

I don't understand why they build schools and houses in tornado areas??? I know if I lived in Moore, OK I would be packing my U-Haul (if there was anything left to pack).

Why do people live in earthquake areas or hurricane areas?
You just have to pick and choose what you want to live with. Nowhere is free of natural disasters.

I have some friends that live about and hour away from  all this.  I was so glad that it didn't happen to them.  I feel really bad for all of the families there.  I have said many prayers for all of them. Loosing a home is nothing, they can replace that, but you can not replace a family member.   So Sad :(
