Prayers for a good friend of mine, Gail, and her grandson, Ezekiel. They were picking strawberries yesterday and both got bitten by a copperhead. Gail got bit really bad with a lot of venom going into her blood system and had to be admitted to the hospital. Zeke only had one puncture mark so he didn't get any venom into his blood system. He was treated and released.

An update on Gail and Zeke: Gail has been in ICU. She is having surgery this morning. Her hand is dangerously swollen. She was given the anti-venom but she had a reaction to it and got very sick. She may lose one if not two fingers depending on how the surgery goes this morning. Zeke is fine. He did not get any snake venom into his blood system. I did learn that if you are bitten by a poisonous snake, if at all possible you should cut the head off and take it with you to the hospital. That way they can extract the venom from the snake to make the anti-venom. Gail's husband Bruce smashed the snake's head up too bad to be able to get the venom out of it. Thank you for your prayers. The Lord is the mightiest of all physicians!

I definitely wish her the best. I can't imagine getting bit by a venomous snake!! Thankfully we don't have too much of that type of thing in New England. I'm glad her son will be fine. Keep us updated on how Gail makes out. I will pray for her.

I hope she will be alright. That is a very scary situation. I did not know about cutting the head off and that could be very important.

Yeah. Tell your doctor that. I'm sure he'll know you appreciated all the hard work he did going to school for 8+ years and learning about human anatomy. Nevermind all the hard work he did for your friends- it was ultimately your personal invisible god and all the people on this forum who telepathically talked to him who saved your friends! :angry7:

Prayers for Mom and Son. I hope the Mom gets better soon. You didn't say where they were picking berries-but they definitely weren't ready for that type of horrible attack.

Praises for all of the prayers! Gail finally got to come home from the hospital after a week's stay. Her right middle finger is completely black. She still has swelling in the finger, hand and arm and is still in quite a bit of pain. She's still not out of the woods yet as far as possibly losing her finger. She and her grandson (5 year old) were picking strawberries that were in a raised garden bed at her home in Greenup Co., KY. Her grandson told her something was sharp in them when he had pulled his hand back from picking a berry. He had a little bit of blood trickling down his hand. Gail used her left hand to move the berry vines back to see if she saw any glass that may have gotten in there. She didn't see anything sharp but saw a giant berry. When she reached down to pick that berry the copperhead snake latched onto her finger. She had to shake the snake loose. Her husband saw what was going on and ran to get a hoe. He proceeded to pulverize the snake. By this time Gail had already started to swell.
