Title: Biracial Cheerios commercial
Post by: msmoneybags48 on June 07, 2013, 01:35:44 pm
I saw a Cheerios commercial with a little bi-racial girl asking her mother how to make a heart with Cheerios.  She put them on her father's chest.  I later heard that there were people trying to have the commercial taken off the air.  Why?  I thought it was cute and innovative. :o ??? :o

There were a lot of racist remarks on twitter or their blogs. Sad, but racism is still alive.

I thought it was very good and she is a cutie. There is nothing wrong with being Biracial. I believe we all have a little bit of other races in us. There was only one perfect man and he died for us. I am part franch, indian, dutch and english. Some of my best friends over the years were of different races. There are so many racist out there and they are not pure of heart if nothing else.

I do noticed how they highlighted the interacial partnership of the family, but it's nothing to think too much about. The "heart healthy" point of the daughter directly pouring the cereal on the father was touching.

My take on this is that I am not racial by no means.  I like anyone as long as their personality is not offensive to me.  I have met many people of the same race as myself that I cannot stand.  I have also met other people of different races that I get along with great and I prefer them over the others of the same race as myself if they are arrogant, unethical, nosy, prying, etc.

I don't think I've seen it but if I did it honestly wouldn't even cross my mind if the person was biracial or not. :-

I get along with basically anyone and was raised to not make a difference between color.  It seems like the racial barriers are still alive and well in racial profiling. :o ??? :o

I am a multiracial person who grew up with racist relatives.  What a joke!  I can somewhat understand the reason.  They lived in a small segregated town with segregated schools, and they wanted their children to get a good education.  They could pass for white, so they sent their kids to white schools.  That same small town has had a change in attitude, for the most part.  But racism still exists.  What a shame, especially for people who spread hatred with their mouths or with guns.  I never understood hate crimes.  They kill in the name of God, the same God who said "Thou shalt not kill."  I had a DNA test done on ancestry.com and the result was I am 70% Caucasian, 13% West African, and the rest a mixture of Middle Eastern and the Caucasus (part of old Russia).  My research found people from different races and different walks of life, ranging from people fleeing England for religious persecution to British royalty to Abraham.  Some of them were Southern landlords with slaves.  Many of these had children by their slaves.  That happened quite a bit.  So, I go along with the sentiment that most people in this country have an ethnic mix in their background.  These racists should have a DNA test done on themselves.

I think that some people are more likely to show their ignorance on social media sites (facebook, twitter etc.,) because they feel a little anonymous .  They would never (Most) of them say this to someone in person, but because you don't see them or know who they are they feel like they can spew this garbage out with no repercussions.

I also thought she was so cute and see nothing wrong with the commercial.  There are plenty of biracial couples in this world it is not like it is anything new.  My daughter is engaged.  He is black and has 2 children who call me grandma.

I think it is ridiculous and crazy how racism is still so prevalent in this world.  I thought it was the cutest commercial because I didn't see a black/white couple, I saw a little girl who portrayed a child who genuinely cares and loves her dad.  Wow people, for all those who had a problem with the commercial, gosh, it's just a commercial.

I actually saw this commercial for the first time on a survey I took a couple of weeks ago, and never even noticed that the couple was biracial. When I saw it on tv I saw that the dad was black, but still didn't think anything of it. Then I saw the story about the racist comments being posted on Facebook and Twitter, and I was saddened but not surprised. Racism will always exist, it's just the nature of human beings to try to be better than someone else. Even if you don't see it, it's always there, like the Papa John's pizza guy with the racist rant on the phone call. Whenever it raises it's ugly head around me I just feel pity for the person who can't enjoy life's wonderous diversity.  :icon_rr:  :peace:

Wow that's so sad. I can't say I'm surprised. As a kid, I got a lot of awful comments hurled towards me from adults. Sickening.

This world is changing more and more and it's hard for some people to
accept the reality of versatility and the uniqueness of various races.

I wonder how many remarks would have surfaced on YouTube if it had been a
gay couple and the daughter spilled the cheerios on one of her gay parents....or maybe
those comments would have overloaded and really went out of control if the couple was both gay and interracial.

Those YouTube commentators need to do a self check commonly known as a reality check.  The new norm is a black
president, gay marriages, legalized marriauna and possibly the right to carry guns.

So the real question is how normal and versatile are you?

I thought the controversy was ridiculous.  Cheerios explained they thought they should really represent what a percentage of families are like and they said they would not pull the ad.  Sometimes I think we haven't made much social progress.

it is sad some people can take such a heartwarming ad and turn it into something ugly. anyone else notice no one has said anything about the tostito's ad with the asian woman and her white husband

Who cares what color they are?  I wouldn't start a thread about it but don't mind responding.  LOL

That commercial is one of the best I have seen in long time.  I don't know how many times I watched it before I even realized the mom and dad were of two "different colors"  lol

People need to worry more about other things going on in the world, rather then making a big stink about a commercial  about cereal and biracial parents.

Come on People !!!!!!!!!!!!   Get a Grip,,,, :crybaby2:

I agree.  It's silly that some pepole hate this commerical because of the black and white thing.  It doesn't make any since people see black in white couples with mixed mixed kids out in public and on tv.  So why are they so crazy about seeing it in a commerical.

People are so rude and racists nowadays!  The color of a persons skin means NOTHING...but when are small minded people ever going to get it????

Kind of surprising that it had such a backlash, as interracial couples have existed in movies, TV, etc. for years now. I guess some people don't expect or prefer big name companies/products like Cheerios to be realistic in their portrayal of an average, perfectly acceptable family.

I don't remember seeing that one. It's a shame that we are still so evil to each other. Has anyone seen that movie CRASH? It really opened my eyes, made more aware of the subtle interactions I have to situations or people. Even the small things that we don't even notice can have huge impact on another individual.

I'm shocked that in 2013 this is a controversy at all. Well, I'm not surprised, though... I am very aware that these beliefs are still prevalent, but it is depressing.

The commercial itself was super cute.

That's sad to see that commercial taken off the air. What really mattered was the message of the commercial. There is nothing wrong with being biracial or any race for that matter. God made all the races and the only problem is racism. A person can be of any race, gender, creed, etc, but ultimately who they are is determined by the heart they have and that determines who they really are. If a person has a good heart they will be a good person regardless of race.
