The movie, with Leonardo Di Caprio, is the best attempt at capturing F. Scott Fitzgerald's story yet. Fitzgerald and Hemingway are my two favorite authors and I don't think that cinema can capture the usage of metaphors and similes that the written word can(coupled with the individual imagination). The money spent on this movie and the elaborate scenes were awe inspiring. I wasn't that impressed with the music. Jay Z is talented in some genres but not non-rapping show tunes.  The movie had me experiencing what I think most would say was a somewhat dysfunctional, drugged way of looing at the world.

I haven't seen it, but intend to.  I saw the old version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.  I like both actors.  However, that film looks rather tame compared with the ads I've seen for the new movie.  It will be interesting.

Haven't seen it. Not really sure if I even want to see it. I read the book a long time ago, like maybe 10 years ago. I wonder though, is it anything like the book? How closely does it follow the book, if at all?
