Our family gets invited to a little party nearby and it seems like every time my we go there, my mom makes fruit salad and no one seems to eat it. I've told her that maybe we should bring something else if no one wants it, but I can't really come up with anything else to bring. Any ideas of things you all might bring to a small community party.

For summer you could do potato salad every body loves it.
-
The last block party we had, I brought an Alder Smoked Salmon filet (the whole fish) and the bones were picked clean when we left.
-
The last time I went to a block party I brought chocolate covered strawberries. They pretty much devoured them
-
A cake seems like it would be a good treat to bring to the party

Cupcakes. Who doesn't love cupcakes.

Well if I really enjoyed the company of those on my block which I do, I would cook up a brisket, chop it up, and have BBQ sandwhiches.
-
Fruit of any kind would be wonderful.
-
You can bring a large bowl of layered angel food cake ( cut into chunks ) topped with frozen fruit ( blueberry , raspberry, strawberry mix ) and topped with coolwhip and then repeated one more time. It's cool and refreshing and always goes over well.

One of my neighbors always brings a crock pot full of bratwurst with onions and peppers that have been stewing all the night before.

I bet if you bring a big bowl of strawberries and a can of whipped cream more people will like your pound cake.

Enchiladas baked casserole style.
Good bread
Olives, nuts, other snacks
-
Kraft seems to have a lot of good recipes of things that would take 10 20 min to make. Also some of those Philadelphia cheese recipe videos we watched had some good ideas. 8) :)

Depends on what the weather is like if it is hot a cold fruit dish or finger foods that are cold. If it is cool then good old mexican food. Although a great fresh green salad is my favorite.
-
I agree potatoe salad or little smokeys
-
you normally cant go wrong with a cheese and meat tray!!!

Everyone loves finger food! Little appetizers go over wonderfully at community parties. A really simple vegetable tray with raw veggies and some ranch dip. You can also do the same with fruit. Melons are another summer fruit that people love to snack on. The fruit and veggie trays don't have to be warmed either. People pick what they like and since everyone doesn't like the same things, you won't have one item that is left on the tray. Have fun with it! Party On!

I like to bring a baked-potato salad... Basically its like a regular potato salad except that it's made with some sour cream, bacon pieces, chives, and shredded cheddar cheese. It's different enough from other potato salads so that if someone else brings potato salad, people will still try both. And the flavors are something that almost everyone enjoys.

This sounds pretty good so I Googled it and found lots of recipes. I never even heard of it before.

In addition to other suggestions, other "popular" dishes at our gatherings are: brownies (who doesn't like chocolate?), taco dip w/ chips (especially if the taco dip is homemade), jello salad, tortilla roll-ups.
The jello salad I make is really simple - 1 contain of Cool Whip, 1 package of jello (your choice of flavor), a can or two of fruit (whatever you think would go well with the jello flavor). Mix all up in a bowl, put in serving container and chill. Sometimes I add a small container of cottage cheese. My favorite combinations are Orange jello with mandarine oranges, or Lime jello with pineapple.
The tortilla roll-ups are something I learned from my step-mom - she makes a cream cheese/sour cream filling (adds shredded cheddar, olives, salsa, etc to the mix). Then spread the mix over big flour tortillas, roll them up, chill in the refrigerator. Then cut them into bite sized pieces before serving.

Just bring a variety of chips and dip. Can't go wrong with that. Everyone likes some kind of chips and dip. :)

i like to bring a black bean salad to any party a can of black beans drained and washed some red onion,i cut up 3 tyoes of peppers red yellow green, with cucumber tomato cilantro and make a a vinegarette type dressing with lime ,red wione vinegar and olive oil and its very healthy and keeps well and vegetarians love it!p

I don't understand why people won't eat it. It would be cool and healthy! Maybe different (in season) fruit or a different presentation (dish) would help. A vegetable tray might be another idea.
-
I will bring in a snapper fish, and wild rice . Also for the drinks I will bring in sorrel
-
well i like to bring a salad and my own tasty chicken bobs with my secret sauce, and believe me it is oh so good, why don't you try just getting some side fruits or drinks.

It's not that no one eats it, but like out of the 50 people there, like 5 eat it and 4 of the people are my family. I don't get why they don't seem to eat it either cause I love fruit but it just doesn't seem to be a big hit so I'm trying to find something that maybe will get noticed during the party.

Generally, a few neighbors supply grills, and others bring tables and chairs. Assign food detail: burgers, franks, appetizers, salads, desserts. Collect money for drinks, condiments, paper goods, ice, and rented equipment.

I living in the south no block party, The big gather here is Funeral.
Our Church we have once month dinner. I make Corn Pudding and that is a big hit. over here
-
chips or veggie and some kind of dip. or finger sandwiches.
-
My vote goes to potato salad too.
-
You can never have too many cold drinks and ice cream.....
-
Instead of a fruit salad which I'm guessing is a standard with mixed fruit and whipped cream may try getting a watermelon, cut in half, scope out the inside into little *bleep* or chunks then replace into the watermelon bowl with other fruits, such as strawberries, cantaloupe, blackberries and other summer fruits. You could even have some yogurt fruit dip on the side.
-
We make the lil smokies in the crockpot with grape jelly and bbq sauce and they get eaten right up. I think anything that's a quiclk finger food would go over well.
-
try pinterest! soo many ideas on there!
-
potato salad, pasta salad, potato chips and dip, a sandwich tray, cupcakes, baked beans, the list goes on and on, think about what you like to eat there.
-
Anytime I get invited somewhere for a block party, bbq, potluck, WHATEVER, I always bring a couple bags of chips. They always get eaten.
-
I'd suggest some sort of finger food- people are more likely to eat finger foods because they can still socialize
Possibly chicken wings? Those are always a favorite!!
-
I'm baking a couple of cheesecakes for this weekend get together.
-
Can I ask this? What a block party? This is my first time heard about this.
-
I know it could be hard because no one ever knows who is bringing what! It seems that everyone likes Garden Salad, Macaroni salad, Cole slaw or some type of desert.
-
brownies go really fast!
-
Do they know that what she's bringing is fruit salad?
During potlucks, we always bring spaghetti. LOL!
-
Some tortilla chips and salsa would be good, or any kind of dip and some cut up veggies.
-
hot dogs are always a good bet especially if there are kids present
-
There are so many things you could bring. I like to take things that are easy to deal with for the event so I usually will make up wraps with tortillas, a basil cream cheese filling.cheeses, meats and lettuce and etc in it. They are easy to do and don't require forks for people to eat them.
-
Buffalo chicken dip! it's always so good and it's easy to make. chicken, red hot, ranch dressing, and cheese.
-
Egg roll, will be a good thing. I think everyone love egg rolls. I do that to all the party and it gone fast.
-
macaroni salad, seafood salad, and desserts are always appreciated :)
-
I will probably bring my homemade bread!!
-
I like fruit salad and if nobody eats it you can still eat it when you get home
