Do a complete Virus scan with your anti virus software.  Most likely it's just a virus.  I'd also recommend running MalewareBytes.  It's a really good program to help clean your computer.

Yes, I agree you need to give it a good cleaning, almost positive that you have a malware of some kind.  Had the same problem with work laptop and they had to actually reimaged everything twice before it got clean.

Haunted is better than possessed; actually, both are bad news.  Do you use any of the free virus scans, like Microsoft Security Essentials?  Before you take it into the shop and spend money, try a virus scan, disk clean, and defragmentation.  The last two should already be on your computer: All programs>Accessories>system tools.  I put icons on my desktop for these and use them frequently.

It may just have a virus.  I doubt it's haunted.  Run your virus software.

You maybe bugged!! You never know!! I heard last night on the news that there is a News Woman on CBS that her Two computers were turning on and off and doing alot of weird things and she brought it out to checked forensically and found out that someone was getting into her computer. She has not said who it was but, also had it checked out by the CBS IT team and they also verified she was being bugged. I have had my Computer turn on in the middle of the morning before. I now make sure my Computers are powered down before going to bed, you never know who is getting into them when you are asleep.

The opening pages could mean it's a popup program (ask toolbar, opencandy programs, etc) or a virus that directs you to certain websites. The freezing could either mean that your computer needs a good cleanup, defrag, virus/malware removal, ram upgrade (probably don't need it), or limit amount of programs running.

To limit the amount of computer problems and the amount going to the computer repair shop, consider using these freeware

Antivirus- Avast! Free Anitvirus (if you don't have an antivirus)
Malware removal- Malwarebytes and Emsisoft Antimalware
Defrag- Auslogic Defrag
Clean-up program- Ccleaner, Glary Utilities, and Iobit Advance Systemcare (beware of it asking you to installing their other programs)
Browser addon- WOT and Ad-block

All of them can be found in http://download.cnet.com/windows/ (http://download.cnet.com/windows/)

Note: Always make sure your programs are updated and when installing a program make sure you don't download other programs *coughs* iobit advance systemcare.

I think your computer might have a virus. You just need to run a scan clean up program on it before you go to the shop and ask someone who knows about cleaning up virus that can help you. I used to have problems like that with my old built in computer my brother in law made but I am so glad that I don't have that problem anymore. Come to find out there was a lot of viruses on computer from so many different cookies.

Could be you picked up a virus.  I use Malwarebytes free virus removal tool - it's pretty comprehensive.  If you do find viruses, I'd recommend rebooting after cleaning them, then re-running your virus cleaning tool.  Sometimes it takes more than one pass to get everything clean.  Also, when you get the list, read any messages as sometimes the tools identify the virus, but it cannot remove it (due to permissions possibly) and instructs you to manually delete it (it provides the location on the computer).

If you don't detect any virus, then check to see how full your hard drive is.  If it's full, you just might need more space.  Computers tend to act funny when they are almost out of hard drive free space.

If you are good on space, then as someone else suggested, run your defragment tool.  If you have never run it, or it's been a while, files that are stored and deleted will eventually block off space making the hard drive space fragmented.  When a file is deleted - it's not really wiped clean - just the index pointing to the file is removed (which is why if you accidentally delete something, you can use tools to get it back - as those tools locate the files and re-index them).  Defragmenting will re-organize your indexed files to make more efficient use of the hard drive space, overwriting the un-indexed files (which means you'll no longer be able to recover those files).

After all this, if your computer is still funny, you might want to try running a diagnostic.  On start-up, typically if you hit F8, you should get an extended setup menu which has an option to scan your hard drive and other systems for errors.  It could be you might be experiencing symptoms of hardware failure.  These diagnostics may be able to identify what could be failing so you know what will need to be replaced.

Good luck!

I doubt that a ghost is inhabiting your computer. That sounds more like a virus. Take it to a computer shop or anyplace that has a free scan. I bet they'll find what is wrong. It'll most likely cost some money though.

You must have that new fancy Windows 8 either computer I have it in mind and the same thing happens to me all the time. For example it will resume way and we can't rated then almost 70 resume house so big that two letters take up the screen. And then it will freeze up every now and then when I'm using my computer.

Hmmm.. it sounds like the Ghosts of Programs Past has come to haunt you!  Run malware and virus scans.  Defrag your hard drive and run a ChkDsk to correct any errors on the hard drive.  Run a program like CCleaner to clean up dead things in your Registry, then see how your computer reacts.  It's sad so many people have to pay for things they can do for FREE themselves.  Especially when those experts use all the FREE programs to do it with the same way you can.

I don’t think there is such a thing for computers being haunted. Let’s hope your computer is not hacked by hackers if you happen to be online a lot.
