Just wondering if anyone knows of a good place to get free boxes for moving?

Ehh, I normally get boxes from my dad cause they use a ton of paper to print things out so I can generally get them from him pretty cheaply or whatnot.  I've heard that you can go to grocery stores and ask them for boxes but I've never done it myself.

The banana boxes form the grocery store are the best.  Go ask produce. They have handles on the sides and a detachable lid.  You can also go to office max and they will give them to you, if you ask.

Grocery store.  I get boxes from Bj's (it's like Costco or Sams club).

When we moved we got boxes from grocery stores.  Also boxes that liquor comes in are very sturdy.  Try stores like Staples, they have good sturdy ones too.

Grocery stores and liquor stores are always the best options!

Most grocery stores will give you boxes if you ask for them. You can also buy boxes on line if you need a certain size.

Go to your local liquor stores or any big retail chain.

I'd also recommend places like Pizza places - they have great sized boxes for packing.  Most just get recycled, so I'm sure if you ask they'll give you what they got.

When I worked at Wal-mart people would ask for boxes all the time.  The manager had a designated day of the week.  So anyone who had received requests would let the night crew leader know...the following Wed night she would have the crew break down and put all the larger boxes in a cart...than the carts were lined up in site to store.  Customers had to come in Wed morning by 9:00 to collect the boxes.  After that we put them in the baler.  For a short time I worked as the site to store associate and lucky me I'd get to face people at 9:20 asking..where are all the boxes I was told to pick up today?

Sometimes people even post FREE moving boxes on craigslist after they've moved.

Perhaps if you have friends that work in the warehouse or any company that receive a lot of shipments of merchandise, they would often need to discard those cardboard boxes. I used to work in the E-Commerce industry and we would receive daily shipments to stock up our inventory. We do end up getting rid of many boxes and bubbles at the end of the day.

My very favorite is the local office supply like Office Depot because they have the paper boxes that have the nice pop on lids so that would be my first choice - the liquor store and grocery store usually have boxes if you can get to them before they break them down.

I was told when I moved and needed boxes that WalMart unpacks their stock at night and if you call they will save you some sturdy boxes that you can pick up. That's what I did and the boxes were just great.

I just pick up bankers boxes... party stores have lots of boxes often, if you call ahead, they may save them for you... most places smash them down these days, so a phone call is your best bet... I need to move soon as well and if I find a better source, I will post again... happy moving!
