Title: Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien
Post by: chrismo88 on June 03, 2009, 07:48:57 pm
Who's been watching?

I caught the first two episodes and thought they were hilarious, though I'm a longtime Conan fan. My favorite bit so far was the Universal Studios tour. "Circle! Circle!"  ;D

What do you guys think?

I'm loving it. I've been watching Conan almost every night sense I was in middle school over 8 years ago (and even wrote to him during a class project once haha) so the wait for the new show to start was killing me!

I love that Andy's finally back. I missed the heck outta him when he first left Late Night back in the day, I just wish they would put him back in the sidekick chair where he started :)

I'm pretty excited for tonights show because they advertised the Year 2000 bit. I remember them doing that back before it was even 2000 lol.

I really miss Joel Goddard, but it's good to see Andy back as well.

Yeah, I miss Joel too. But ah... he seemed a lot older than the rest of the Late Night regulars. I suppose the move to LA would have been a bigger deal to him.

I'll always miss his bits with the gay prostitutes and that creepys smile though lol.

Same... I'm glad to see that the earlier time slot hasn't caused him to mature any haha. Hopefully they wont be to scared to bring back Triumph of The *bleep* Bear *crossees fingers*

HAHA. He mentioned in the last episode they wouldn't cut any of that out - so I've got my fingers crossed too. I liked "Frankenstein wastes a minute of our time".

OMG that reminds me! Now that Andy's back they can bring back the staring contests and the desk rides!

... sure they had the desk rides even after Andy left, but it wasn't as cool without Andy, lol.

I take it it's not on yet where you are? If so, you're in for a semi treat  ;D

Yes I do - and they are doing the 2000 skit with a twist right now...

Hah! They finally up'd it to 3000! The Andy/Conan nostaligia is going crazy in me right now lol. I almost forgot how great they were together.

The best part about Andy being a guest on the show after he left was that you KNEW they were gonna pull that skit out.

Something tells me Joel will make an appearance at some point...

I'd love it if he did....

But even more than that, I'd like to see Abe Vigoda show up.

Haha Yes! He was the best...

Also I think that was the only work Abe ever got anymore lol

I really thought Abe had died years ago until I caught an episode and he was on it!

Of course, last night with Tom Hanks was hysterical. I always make sure to catch him on late night because he's always got some random story to tell.

Last night was Ron Howard  ;D

Bleh, Jimmy Fallon :(

I don't know what to do with 12:35 anymore lol

No kidding! I thought he was pretty funny on SNL, but it's been a lot of hit or miss with his late night show.

Conan still rules though! Night my friend!

Yeah, I use to like when he spoofed popular songs on SNL during Weekend Update and when he messed up the skits (he's ALWAYS start laughing) but he just doesn't seem to be talkshow material lol. He's too nervous or something. Every now and then I'll enjoy a skit, but once he starts interviewing it all seems to go down hill.

But there's nothing else on at 12:35am lol. I wish Jimmy Kimmel would drop down a time slot. I started enjoying him during my Conan break.

Tonight's guests are Gwyneth Paltrow, Joel McHale, and the John Mayer Trio.

I dig Joel on The Soup - this should be a pretty good show tonight

Did you guys notice Jimmy Fallon the other night..when they did that California blues intro..I don't want to speculate...but he looked...well..like he may have been on something!

To be honest I really stopped watching after the first week - I just couldn't get into it. The Roots are a killer house band, but it just doesn't feel right. I reaaaaally do not dig his announcer - seems too stiff to be working with Fallon.

Chickenfoot plays tonight! This should be a good one!

Tonight is David Duchovny, Anna Friel, and Bill Burr.

Not as solid of a line up as last Monday, but still should make for a good show!

Still watching, man. Missed Fridays episode unfortunately. Luckily Hulu exist's though, so I'm good haha.

One thing I noticed that's bothering me a LITTLE BIT.

They use to do a comedy bit after the monologue, then have a guest, then do another comedy bit, then have the last two guests.

But now they're using the same format that Leno always used where they do all the comedy bits at the first of the show and spend the rest of the time with the guests... this kinda upsets me lol.

... I dig having the bits spaced out because sometimes the guests aren't all that great and it's nice to have that extra comedy bit thrown in mid show to look forward too.

*sigh* show's still cool though.

Something's telling me that they're following that format to see if it retains any of the Leno crowd. Seems like there's a lot of hostility towards Conan, so I guess they figure if they follow Leno's format they'll keep people satisfied.

Friday's episode was good, Chickenfoot was REALLY good.

At first, I thought Conan would have trouble filling Jay's shoes but he is doing very good.  He will be just fine.

I noticed this and I agree.  I'm finding myself not watching when the guests come on.  Sure, the interviews can be funny sometimes, but most of the time I'm just waiting for the next bit.

I noticed a lot of Conana hostility too while on the Tonight Shows site the other day (I was rewatching the opening intro of the first episode). I found that VERY odd, you usually hear nothing but good things about Conan lol. I guess the messages were mostly from bitter Leno fans (apparently he had some, who knew).

That's what surprises me. Jay's maintained a ton of loyal fans through the years. I used to find him funny but in his later years just slowly started declining. He'll be back in the Fall so I'm not sure why people are upset.

I miss Jay.  I never watched Conan.  I can't get into to watching him now that he is on the Tonight Show.  I love Craig Furgason.  He is the only late night show I watch now.

Conan used to be a writer for SNL and The Simpsons for years, so I think he could hold his own. But there is no doubt he has excellent writers

I love it I think it is the best one to watch. I have caught every episode since it came on and even have my dvr set to record each one just in case. It is the funniest late night comedy I have seen in quite awhile. When David duchovany came on it was so funny. I liked conan before but now he is funnier to me and after every episode I can't wait for another I am addicted

i loe conan obrien but i think that by him taking the 11:30 slot his material may have to be a little tamer which sucks because he is so funny
