Title: FYI
Post by: cateyes1 on June 25, 2013, 12:41:39 pm
Pass this on to your grown children and anyone else you can think of. This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your e-mail address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.

The caller claims to be a jury duty coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the Scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.

The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, Colorado, AZ, OR and more. This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system.

The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Just recived another letter for Jury summons and i know it is on the up and up. If you don't call some of these creeps and they call you hang up on them. The only way you will be notified for jury summons is by mail. If you are still unsure check the phone number against the phone book and or call the courthouse, never ever give info over the phone to them.

Thanks, cateyes1.  I am only working with cellphones now; my house phone was disconnected on the 20th; not my idea, but my hubby's.  Anyway, I am not quick to give out any information.

I served Jury Duty last year and this hasn’t happened to me. Thank you for sharing this information.

Thanks for sharing this.  I know here in our little town, arrest warrants are issued immediately and the deputy sheriffs go right then to go after the ones who don't show up.

Maybe you've already seen this on the news, but there are Scammers calling and pretending they are with the government, and that they can go ahead and sign you up, by phone, for something to do with Obama's healthcare plan.  They ask for your social security number, and other information.  They don't do that over the phone, anyway.

It seems there are more situations like these happening.
