I prefer video games. For me, I feel like I get a good bang for my buck when I play/buy a video game- story-wise, visual-wise, and experience-wise. I can knock out a good 6 or 7 hours by playing a video game and not even know it, still being motivated and driven into the game. I go an hour playing a board game and everyone that plays, including myself, just want the game to be done and over with. If I get bored of the game, I can always go to the store and get a good chunk of my money back and invest it into another video game. Playing with some friends are also a blast. Either way I look at it, video games are my cup of tea.

I think in some ways video games take the mundane tasks out of a board game. For example, Monopoly on a computer rolls the dice, counts the moves, and performs transactions faster than a person can with the board game version. Because of this, you can get to the heart of the game much easier... For Monopoly, that would be what properties you purchase / trade for in order to give you an edge in acquiring a monopoly on a particular color group. etc. I think in part what bores people when playing board games is doing all of those mundanes tasks that a computer removes from gameplay; once you've mastered the art of rolling dice and moving your pieces, Chutes and Ladders isn't much fun anymore.

However I know some people like a more tactile interaction with the game, even if it is just rolling dice. Going back to Monopoly, with the board game if you are 8 spots away from landing on Boardwalk (and thereby completing your monopoly on those properties), it may be more fun to rub the dice, blow on them for luck, etc. Also with board games, they force you to play with other people... rarely will you find a board game that allows you to play by yourself.

Finally, although not strictly "board games" in the traditional sense, true roll-playing games that don't have too many rules offers the advantage of a true "sandbox" experience, where you can create the game you want as you're playing it. I remember when I was with a group of experienced gamers and a new game master putting that GM through a crash course of being able to think on the fly... He started off the story where we were inexplicably in a tavern listening to some old man ramble on about some caves that offered adventure and wealth. All of a sudden, our characters got bored with the "old geaser" and we decided we'd have more fun going outside of town and trying to catch a ship hunting down pirates. With a computer game, you usually can't be so dynamic in being able to do whatever you want. Even with some of the more so-called open-ended CRPGs, there still is usually a main plot-line, and all of the actions are controlled.

For me, it depends on the situation. If I am with a lot of other people, I prefer board games. If I am just by myself, I prefer video games. I guess I think that board games are a bit more social than video games.

I like both.  Video game if I am by myself.  But if I'm not alone I like board games better.
I like to have game night with my children who are older.  We always have so much fun, good quality time.  :)

I like board games it just feels like you have more involvement than a video game.  I do play computer games but I would rather play a board game with my husband, than on my computer.

Personally I like both board and video games. They both bring something special t a game. I love video games because I can sit and play alone for hours.  there are time when I like being by myself. Board game on the other hand gives you the opportunity to play with other. which is very good at times.

I play some of both. Video games are nice for really getting submersed in the experience and forgetting about everything else while board and card games I find are better for social interaction because you are not so involved in the game that it takes you away from the present moment. The game in fact brings enjoyment to the social experience rather than distracting from it. Now some might say you can interact while playing video games just as easily but I find that I really detach myself when I play and it takes time to really bring myself back to reality.

I like both. board games are classic fun while video games bring the advanced element. I don't have a video game system but when i visit my nephews, we always play Just Dance. I like that its fun and gets me active.

I like both, certain games are better the old fashion way for me. It is nice to have both options these days though.

I play more videogames than board games because I live alone.  You can play videogames without someone else, but you can't play board games with just one person.

I have played both.  Monopoly and The Game of Life gave people the chance to dream of being rich.  I enjoyed the board game.  I play my games on Facebook.  I play Booty Slots, Bingo by Ryzing, Bingo Bash, Bingo Blitz, Criminal Case, Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga, Hidden Express, and Mahjongg.

I like both but video games allow you enjoy the game by yourself whereas board games require others to be available to play.

game play and content is where it is at. If a game is boring in any format, doesn't really matter how "classic" or "eye popping" it is. It is the same when comparing movies to books. If there isn't some kind of structured substance to be experienced then why bother?
