It's hard to believe that a neighboring county's school started back today - August 1st. Our school system starts back on August 8th. When does your school system go back?

It starts up around the end of August/early September here. I can't believe it's already that time again.

I was actually surprised when I moved from NY to MN.... In NY (at least where I lived at the time), school broke for summer recess the last week of May and started the first week of September. Thus Memorial Day and Labor Day signified the beginning and end of summer respectively. But when I moved to MN, school let out around the first week of June and began in mid August. I actually thought that it was cumbersome doing it that way, esp. since many families wanted to take a summer vacation around those holidays, so the kid would go back to school for a week and then go on vacation the next week, and would start off the year getting behind the rest of the class. I also noticed that MN had MANY more days off during the school year, mostly for teachers / admin to have classes, conferences, etc., which is probably why the summer break was condensed over that for the NY district I was in. I really wished that either they had school year round or that they'd use those holidays to bracket the summer break so that families could go on a summer vacation during those holidays.

I live in Oklahoma City and the OKC schools have already gone back because they're on a year-round schedule and had a short summer.
I go to college and my school starts back up on the 19th.
