yea, I always rather have pack lunch than school lunch even when my mom made it for me.

Many of the school lunch programs are subsidized (at least here in MN that I know of), and the menus are put together by dieticians to ensure that they have the nutrients that kids need. When I was going to school, I liked the school lunches better than a bagged lunch... With bagged lunches, my sandwiches always got soggy by the time lunch-time rolled around. Either that or my mom would try packing a deconstructed sandwich that I'd have to put together at lunch... Also in MN (as well as in NY where I lived before), the winters got pretty cold, so coming inside from recess and getting a hot meal was always a bonus; the schools don't have microwaves (or at least not back then), so a bagged lunch was invariably a cold meal.

I'm a single mom and for the last two years my daughter has qualified for the free lunch. Every once in a while she still wants me to make her a sandwich or something, but usually she eats at school for free.
As for me, I bring my lunch to work 4 days a week. I usually eat with a co-worker on Fridays.

I prefer school lunch or sack lunch for our kids/grandkids.
When I was little, I had to bring sack lunch because I had ulcers.....so school lunch was my dream.

have you tried for reduced or free lunches thru the state? It's just a suggestion. If money gets really tight you at least have that. Actually the schools have a fairly nutrious lunches and breakfasts. At least hear in michigan

I used to be for school lunches when my daughter was in school but in this day and time I probably would choose a sack lunch since a lot of places the schools cook the meals in one area and then deliver them to the other schools.

When my kids were in school they had to pay for their lunches. The free was offered to low income only. But they had a choice take a sack lunch or buy at school. I paid every month for them. So if they elected to take a sack lunch instead of what was on the menu that was ok with me. Because at the end of the year we always got refunded for the lunches they did not eat at school. There is so much waste now at school because the kids want eat all that is offered. They just dump it into the trash cans. I say give them what they want. It is up to the parents to feed them at home all the good items, beacause at school it is thrown away. At least they would be eating something, instead of going hungry.

My daughter buys because her school offers a salad bar, and she loves to eat healthy, she in in middle school and she says packing a lunch is uncool.

school lunch is better, but for those who cant afford it pack lunch is great, but i prefer school lunch

Sending your kids to school with a pack lunch is better, you KNOW what they are consuming as to content and who/how it was prepared.

I work for the school district and what I know is that the children get pretty good food. I have even eaten it too. My best is the orange chicken. The food is not all that bad. If you want to know what they eat go and eat it one day. If you don't like it than have them bring a sack lunch. ;)
