An hour late? wow... but i think that lates is from the restaurant? cant imagine if the driver lost or culd not find the address ;D

My boyfriend used to deliver pizzas, and his tips were his main source of income. When he got bad tips, he wasn't making enough money to make it worth it. The delivery charge doesn't go to the driver, at least the few places that he worked for didn't. So yes, I always tip. I can understand not giving as much if they're much later than they say they're going to be, though.

I always tip the pizza guys, even when they are late. Perhaps, they are late because they got a bigger tip from someone else.
-
SOmetimes I do and sometimes I dont. It depends on how much money I have on hand at the time. If I order from somewhere that lets me order and pay online with my card then I always tip.

You should ALWAYS tip. Delivery charges go directly to the company, not the driver. Most of them are working for minimum wage, sometimes less, and are extremely overworked (hence why they tend to be late... they're told to be in 5 different places in different parts of a city within 15 minutes, during rush hour).
Really, it's common courtesy. Whenever I hear people saying they don't think they should have to tip people in the food service industry, it boils my blood. Clearly they haven't worked in the food service industry!

An hour late? If I was to tip I would probably still put down only a little if that's the case. With the availability of looking up directions online and how common people with data are nowadays there is not as much of an excuse anymore.

i always tip the drivers. the place that order from usually dont even give me an estimated time when it will be there so i just wait for it

I don't think I would tip a driver if he shows up over a hour beyond the time it normally takes to deliver.

Was it the driver's fault it was late, or was it the people making the pizza? You can't deliver a pizza before it's cooked.

Yes, I think drivers deserve a tip, which is many times their main source of income. Especially in this bad economy, they depend on you. I wouldn't want that job for anything, but I do enjoy my food delivered.

I don't really ride cabs but I'll give them a dollar or two.

I generally always tip drivers, even if they're late. Can't always blame the driver for that, I give them the benefit of the doubt.

I have been a pizza delivery driver before and yes many houses don't tip. It is nice to get but I would never ask if I didnt get one it is just part of the job.
-
I won't tip if they are really late.
-
If it's a hour late, I probably won't tip.
I always thought the delivery charge was for drivers till now!! :(
I will tip for now even if the driver is late.

I always tip Pizza delivery drivers. They depend on tips as a major part of their income.

I have heard that some employers don't have to pay minimum wage if the employee is expected to make it up in tips. Although I'm sure the rules are different based on employer and local laws. In my opinion I do not like the idea of tipping. For one there are many service jobs that pay poorly and where tips are not allowed (for instance caregiving) and two many people come to expect a certain amount in tips and then it is no longer considered a reward for outstanding services but it is required and many establishments won't let you leave without paying the tip amount. Don't get me wrong I would like to give gratitude to those that are helpful but it shouldn't be required.

I always tip. And if I don't have the extra money to tip then I will go and pick it up. I work at a family owned pizza company and on weekdays we usually have 1 driver and we deliver farther than any other pizza company I have ever heard of. We do not have a delivery charge just a minimum of $15.00. Because our delivery area is so large it can be very hard sometimes to get everywhere in a certain amount of time. Unless your driver is rude you should always, always tip. That basically how they make their money.

When it comes to tipping food delivery, I always do. The way I see it, the tip is what covers their car insurance, gas, wear & tear on their vehicle for driving your food from the store to your house and back...also to deal with all the crazies on the road or the bad conditions (assuming you ordered in during a rain storm or snow storm).
As other have said, most drivers maybe get minimum wages, often times their positions are like waitresses where they are paid less than minimum wage as it is expected they will make up the difference with the tips they receive.
It's tricky when something is delivered uncommonly late to know who or what is to blame. Was it the driver just being lazy, was it the store who didn't get the food ready in time (driver made good time but the delay was not the driver's fault), was there a traffic issue that delayed them (flat tire, accident on the road, expected or unexpected traffic jam, construction, ...), bad weather causing delays, etc - there are a lot of factors that could happen between point A and B that could cause an unexpected delay. So I tend to give the driver the benefit of the doubt. I might comment about the lateness to see what the driver's response was - sometimes you can get an idea (did they send them out with 10 deliveries over a 30 mile radius, did they mention an accident or construction..etc).
