Decided to adopt a 5 month old cat/kitty. Male domestic. I think this is my son and I first step to giving a home to a kitty that we will love. This is our first time adopting and so far so good. :cat:

Adopted animals .. whether strays or from someone who couldn't keep them ..always seem to be soooo loveable and loyal.
All my animals were adopted and I would not trade them for the world.

I wish you all the luck in the world on your adopted cat. For me, I rather not adopt and cats and I do not see eye to eye.

Congrats! May your new Kitty bring years of love and joy to you and your family, and vice versa. :)

wow that's awesome I love cats and dogs but I don't have a chance to raise a pet. i'm already so :) busy with my 2 kids.

I adopted a kitten. She was so tiny. I don't think she was quite ready to leave her mama, but they assured me she was old enough. It took 3 times taking her to the vet before she could get her shots because she was too small.

where's the photo? I'd like to see!
What did you name the kitty??
oh btw, i love your signature!!

I love  kitties. Hope you enjoy him as much as I have enjoyed having mine. :)

How nice of you to give an animal a home! :notworthy:
I took in a stray dog (I thought she was a puppy) about 6 mos ago and it turned out she was pregnant so my dog family grew from 2 to 5 in about a month's time! Looking back now, if I hadn't saved the mom, those puppies wouldn't have lived... But now they're thriving

So far we are doing great. I have been the one so far of major taking care of him. My son when he comes home from school has shown a great love toward him. He takes over where I leave off. I am about to start a new job where I will be away for some hours and wondering if its okay to put him in his carrier or leave him out. Any suggestions? I really do not want to leave him but I need the new hours. :cat: :cat: :cat: :crybaby2:

How wonderful. All my kitties were adopted, most were rescues. They know and appreciate. :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat:
Crate training depends on how many hours you'll be gone and how big the crate is. If it's big enough for him to have a box at one end and food at the other he'll be fine. He should automatically relieve himself away from where he sleeps. However leaving him loose in the house will have to happen eventually. If he's little he's unlikely to be able to jump up on counters, etc., but he could teach himself to climb or use "steps". Most likely he'll sleep most of the time. A good place to sleep, like a doughnut bed or carrier and a bunch of interesting toys would help. I use a dispenser bowl so my kids can self feed at will. We have a large un-tipable, metal dog dish for water. Personally I'd leave him. Cats are independent and good at amusing themselves, but they sleep a lot too. He'll be fine and will soon learn your routine.

I have had cats/kittens all my life. I wouldn't put the kitten in any type of carrier. If you don't trust the kitten to have free roam of your home in the beginning, I would confine him to a room with the door closed (bedroom, large bathroom, etc.). Jus make sure he has a clean litter box, fresh water, food, and a toy or two. He'll be fine for the time you are gone. Good luck with your new addition! :cat: :cat:  :cat:

Everybody's animals are adopted. Unless you know something the rest of us don't know. lol. Just kidding with ya.
We live in an area where dogs are dumped regularly. People are so mean and so stupid. We have kept every dog that has been abandoned. Just doing our part to keep our local vet in business. lol.

Congrats on your new baby! We just got a 3 month old last weekend. She was a barn kitty so she has been pretty timid but she is very loving. If your cat is using the litter box I'd let him or her roam free through the house. Our kitty is still scared of coming out of the bedroom but in a few weeks I predict she will be ruling the roost.

Congrats. Pets can add a lot to a family.
I am definetly a pet person.
